All the mod cons, none of the class. Sorry Elon Musk. But if the probability of us being in base reality is billions to one, the who gives a to….be continued.
@@garyboyle695 True, though Rolex has stopped adding perlage work to the newer 32-series movements, like they used to do with the older 31-series movements.
They have sent me this dial but on a non gmt watch which is quite interesting. I do agree you get a lot for your money. I’ve had 30+ San Martin now pass through my hands and they just keep on getting better. Nice video Jody
I've been saying this for a while now... The big brands need to be worried about San Martin. They have everything they need now to compete with them. Things like the on the fly clasp, along with (hopefully) sorting out their more original designs now too.
Probably Seiko, Citizen - depending in which styles San Martin do - Hamilton, Bulova ... also depending on things longer term and if San Martin go very up-market then brands like Longines, Zodiac, Doxa, Yema (although they will always have the European prestige and heritage). Again depending on models some micro-brands could also have competion; Dan Henry, Zelos, Helm, Christopher Ward etc. Not saying that San Martin WILL achieve this but they have the potential
@@karlsenula9495what about brands like Island watches, steinhart, squale, maybe farer or monta, halios, there are sop many micros, where do i even start of with buying one.
Why would Seiko or Citizen be worried about SM? Both Japanese brands sell around $1.5 billion worth of watches every year. SM sells a couple of thousand watches with an average price of $200 each. If SM want to be a proper company, they need to invest in their own selling platform, proper marketing and design teams, not just using AliX, UA-cam reviewers to promote them or designs ripped off from other brands. They might take sales away from some micro brands, but even some of these are so far in front, they might never catch up.
@@Zsweeze .. agree about those too ... the watch market with the Chinese global entry and all the recent micro-brands is EXTREMELY competitive right now ... simple things like brand name, logo, WR, sapphire crystal, pressed or milled clasp, finishing, QC, customer service, a series of bad experiences leading to a reputation (or excellent experience leading to a great reputation), and yes unique iconic designs (what Seiko is living off of right now) etc. Could make the difference between which watch you choose in todays market.
Gotta admit that is super tempting... Personally i just wish it was like 40.5 or maybe even 41.5 but, that would also mess with the dial and date window so maybe it wouldn't look so clean...
I brought the watch and love it. I noticed San Martin now sell the bracelet separately for £65. I asked if I could buy the end links only so I could use the fantastic bracelet on other watches. They sent me a set for just £6 with extra spring bars and a tool. What other affordable watch company would do that! Great watch, great customer care.
Why do you need an extra endlinks? I don't quite get the intention. Did you want to use the bracelet that came with this watch on another watch? Or did you bought the $65 standalone bracelet?
I love the sterile case back! I like having the back of my wates engraved, especially if they are a gift but 90% of casebacks are so busy now, engraving just looks ridiculous.
I'm in the U.S. (Tennessee) and ordered this watch after watching the video you did on it sever weeks ago; almost a month has past and I'm still wait on delivery. Still hopeful it didn't get lost in transit.
That's what I was thinking. The contrasting light blues, the stick hands and indices, BOR bracelet and date at six makes it look close to a Super Sea Wolf
Love the colors! Replace the '24' with an inverted triangle (one of my pet peeves if you hadn't figured it out by now!🤣) and you'd have yourself a good'un! Cheers!
Got the black one. It's my first San Martin as I'm not a big homage fan (not judging). Very impressed by it overall. It just has a nice feel, and the double-domed sapphire crystal, sapphire bezel, and on-the-fly clasp are amazing features for the money.
I bought one and really like it as well! The long second hand irks me too though... The case design to me seems very inspired by the Lorier Neptune/Hyperion. San Martin probably manufaures for Lorier so I guess that's how they got the inspiration.
It's a wonderful, well executed design, having overtones of tradition and yet not a copy. The colors work well too, so as you said, nice watch overall.
You convinced me - have a black world timer on the way! Never bought a San Martin before as I'm not too into homage watches, but these are fantastic. Hopefully they continue down this path!
Beautiful watch and like you I love the colourful one the most. It’s the first San Martin that I’ve seen that I would be happy to add to my collection. Great video as ever.
It's really nice and feels light on the wrist. Cool look. It was a fun purchase. I think it needed more lume, especially that chapter ring. Good review as always!
Great review as always Jody. When I first saw it I thought they had take a leaf outo of Farer's colour palette and was very tempted. However, not sure I can live with only a 24 click bezel.
I absolutely adore this new design the colors are so vibrant it almost looks like a beach with the bezel and the teal dial and chapter ring with those sepia tones. You should get in one of those world timers for review and see if they look as good in hand.
The slim case shape, elongated down turned lugs, coin edge bezel, bezel printing, domed crystal, and 6 o'clock date give the impression of a Lorier Hyperion (albeit different hands, colours and indices). Different enough though that you could have both!
Really nice looking watch and well finished. Refinements for me would be removing the small marks between seconds, and some outer printng as you said. Lug to lug could be a bit shorter, found that on some i have, a great fit but long L2L sometimes means you see the end links insides. Not a deal breaker though.
Better case Better bezel better glass Better bracelet better clasp - just better than the Seiko GMT SKX in my opinion. AND CHEAPER -So much watch for the money and a lovely colour scheme for a travellers watch. Well done San Martin. A big step forward for originality. Nice review Mr M
The grey dial one is a total mess with the world time bezel and the 24 hour inner chaptering, but I like it. I’l say it out loud, I’ll own my badness. I like that thing. For the win, the sleek case and on the on-the-fly adjustment. It’s funny, I was watching Shane review a totally crazy Oceanus, Casio pushing its limits, and then in the same evening I get to watch one of my other fave watch influencers review a watch with an Ali brand pushing its limits. Fun half hour of watchdom.
I've just ordered an SN020 from them, a bit more sombre I admit, but it's a cali dial enamel, and I can't wait for it to land. Great entry point too, less than £150. If its nice, this GMT is getting ordered next. Looks fantastic and I don't need it to be a true diver as a) it's mainly the GMT I'm interested in and b) my humble Duro is all the dive watch I'll personally ever need.
Hallow. This is a superb one. Aigi from Norway has same colorway products but different designs. I think it could stretch up to up to 45 years old watch enthusiasts who wants a breath of fresh air. I will be eyeing for the next big sale for this one on my cart
I agree, best yet I wouldn't change a thing, might even buy one in the same colour scheme. Thoughtful touch giving us the comparison to the Rolex glidelock because we've all got at least one of those kicking around somewhere.
Well done San Martin. As an owner of two, (Cptn Willard and a chronograph) I am very pleased to see them up their design game. I am far more likely now (as my collection matures) to purchase originals over homages. As Jody says, sort the hands out and this would have been an irresistible offering.
I have the black version and I agree it is a lovely watch (dimensions, quality, value, etc.). I quite fancied the colourful one but there were just too many colours going on for me. I think if the GMT text and the GMT hand were colour matched to the bezel and perhaps just the tip of the second hand was orange (as is done in red on the black version) then I would have been all in. Onwards and ever upwards for SM if they can build on this.
I emailed SM and asked for exhibition case backs on all of their mechanical watches, and no date windows. Having a date / closed case backs should be options only.
I'll go you one better - not only is this maybe the Best San Martin, I think this is better than many (many!) microbrands that try to re-create an early diver homage! And yes, that is a great color combination!
