its a travesty that the La's weren't one of the biggest bands in the world. No matter how much Lee hates it, their album is timeless and over 20 years later its still fresh and alive.

Part of me is quite happy with them being "my band", there's a buzz from meeting fellow La's fans that you wouldn't get with hipster-adopted, mainstream stuff that people like because they're told to. It's clear Lee wasn't arsed about recognition / fame (he even says this literally in interviews). It only makes sense the fans of his music feel the same.
Robbie Williams covering There She Goes at his gigs is not something I think about when I'm enjoying The La's :D

I presume this is the performance Clapton saw on TV back then - 'I’m very out of step at the moment. The only thing I’ve really liked is a guy called Lee Mavers, who sings with the La’s. He’s got a stance and a style that I think is tremendous. I saw them do a thing on TV with him and an acoustic guitar and the bass player with an acoustic bass, and they did that song “There She Goes,” and it was so strong. I think that’s what it’s about for me...the craft.'

short and sweet, it's what I love about the album, hardly any songs over 3 minutes but all packed with greatness and leave you longing for more. it's one of only a hand full of albums I can listen to over and over! so sad there was never a second and although I love cast but for me they were never quite as good, there is an energy about that album that is hard to beat..

Yes, the songs got straight to the point... except for "Looking Glass". But I _love_ LG as an album closer, both thematically and musically. Can't imagine a better way to end an album that is as close to perfection as anything I've ever heard.

The 2nd best band from Liverpool, but only by a hair. The songs are masterpieces.

Reuben Kincaid I’d say in terms of songwriting he’s the best in Liverpool, maybe one of the best in the world

Perhaps the best recording of There She Goes. Oh my goodness. Thank God the audio quality of this is better than the video. Is there another version of this clip out there?

The best and talented band since the Beatles, such a shame Mental Illness stopped Lee moving forward and becoming the biggest band in the World.

what a joke they have some genius songs but the smiths joy division and a lot of other bands are better then them its hard to judge the la's they have 1 genius album compared to other bands

i love the smiths and joy division, too. However they didn't have the range of Maver's. He was practically a one man band. How good would the La's have been with a Johhny Marr on guitar? John Power has talent, but he didn't come into his own until he stared Cast.

@@danboon32 Indeed, I believe Lee held Power back talant wise. JP needed to get away and spread his creative wings.
