I’ve picked up quite a few of them myself, we’ve fed a lot of needy folks in our lives. Hungry folks aren’t too picky. They’ll take it and be thankful for it.
No sir! I would live on it if I could! Fact is, I can’t afford to buy beef, pork or chicken to give away. With the deer meat, I can get enough to help others. I simply meant that a lot of people don’t think they like it till they get it as a helping hand. It enables my wife and I to help others, that’s all.
@@John06648 I appreciate it, I live in Ohio and I’m disabled due to a stroke. I can’t hunt or drive anymore, but the Lord provides a way every year for us to be able to help others in a small way. I didn’t mean that we were doing without. I have chickens for eggs and meat, and we raise a garden for vegetables and we can a lot. We are not affiliated with any particular church or the gov. So we avoid all the restrictions of being a pantry. I will say the number of people needing food has tripled over the last 3 years. We thank God we can help at all.
I did this last year with my bow. My neighbor hit a legal buck pulling into her driveway snd she was crying and freaking out because it was floping around in the hay field between our houses and bleating. I heard her screaming from my stand on my back 30 (it was bow season), heard her breaks screach and then her screaming. I went out in the field and put it down and tagged it. I kept most of the meat, but cooked her and her parents a backstrap and mash potatoes dinner and gave them about 10 pounds of sausage I made out of the shoulders and trimmings (added a liitle beef fat). There was no meat damage either. Her front headlight dislocated the front shoulder joint and broke two ribs that punctured one lung. I have picked up several where only one side of the deer had salvagable meat.
@@paloskeezy I had five tags and it was the end of the season. I haven't filled all my tags in years, but I am only hunting the back 30. I am in Florida so we don't even have physical tags, but you claim the deer online. I could have just kept it and not said anything, but it was easier to do it that way. I also wanted to have it tested by the state for CWD before eating it, and that requires reporting.
Hey loved the skinning trick on no mount deer I wished I seen this a couple hundred deer ago time saver for sure ❤thanks again never to old to learn something new !
This happened to me a couple years ago. I came across a recently hit deer. Both of the back legs were broken. I called the warden to see if I can put the deer down with my handgun. But I was told no cause it's on the side of a road. So I gave the warden the road name where I was and he was gonna send someone nearby. I waited about 15 minutes and finally someone arrived. He took his gun and dispatched the deer. He asked if I wanted the deer and I said yes I'll take it. He gave me a tag so I don't have to use one of mine
I respect the heck out of you for this way of life sir! There is miserable people who have no clue how to worry about themselves and mind their own dang business and were never taught the phrase by their grandmother “if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all”. Those same type of people have no clue how life works and would pass away of starvation if they were ever in a situation they couldn’t purchase food from a store. They can be so nasty towards hunters and anyone harvesting an animal for food or whatever the case. I mean i probably sound very judgmental myself saying these things but it’s just what I have experienced a lot of myself. I know the importance of hunting and I also am obsessed with hunting and fishing and camping, all outdoor sports. I grew up that way and it’s just something in my soul that gives me such passion for the outdoors. I hate seeing any animal go to waste. I am completely against hunting for sport unless it was a necessity situation like some type of hazard to the eco system like the hogs. Even then I would harvest the meat and give it to people in need. I wish you the best sir and god bless.
I’ve taken some also from the roadways here in Massachusetts… Just because we are a blue state doesn’t mean we are all jerks, I appreciate the outdoor way of life. And I appreciate my firearms… Great video by the way!
Be sure and check your local laws, different States have different rules on collecting roadkill, and being in possession of a game animal with the proper tag can get you in a LOT of trouble ;)
Awesome video I've salvaged a few deer my self not any that we're still alive when I got to them also I'm interested in the rifle your using is that a remington 550-1 If so I have one just like it great rifles any ways keep up the good content great video
Harbor Freight machete you found. Nice little chopper for a few dollars. Until it breaks eventually. Might be a week or last for years. The 'serrations' cause little stress fractures. Stay safe.
I collect roadkill if I can. Especially in winter months up here in wisconsin if I see any I know will be fresh though haven't ran into any that I had to dispatch. Free good meat is never a bad thing
It’s so sad to see bucks like this I am a deer hunter always will be and the thing is why it’s always so sad is because these deer could have so much potential
We have to call DEC here and they have to come out to dispatch and hand us a salvage tag. Seems so much faster and easier where youre at. My state also likes to make things as complicated as possible.
In Pennsylvania they wouldn't give permission... My brother had a similar situation... Game Warden said no... So I dispatched the animal. I'm not into playing government games.
What a blessing! I learned something tonight. I must say, being in Alabama, I have never seen pulling the hide off with your truck. Nice work! You’ve got a subscriber from me
This was the easiest , I appreciate that technique to dehide it ; have you seen the technique with compressed air ? Is harvesting one that has rigor mortis too old or what condition is being too old to harvest ?
Missouri resident myself. A call to the local game warden to dispatch a wounded deer. Is ok 👍 County sheriff department can authorize it as well 👍 Just remember you cannot trespass to recover. Make sure you get a salvage tag.
I live in a rural area in Florida around the middle of November to Christmas our rut starts and it's not uncommon to find 30 bucks within the month on the roadside i grab everyone i can
We do similar in Michigan. As I recall you call the county sheriff or state police to report it and they will issue you a tag. I could have the process wrong so if your in Michigan and hit a a deer or find one call the local authorities.
We do that up here in Canada once in a while when a snow plow hits a moose. It's kinda funny because sometimes all you see are 4 hooves sticking up out of the snowbank.
Yep my grandpa hit a deer and did minimum damage actualy in the way to hunt one morning and ended up getting permission to take ut and salvage the meat but ended up the back hindquarters were bruised a little too much for us to eat or use so we ended up getting a dog that was in sort of bad shap and fed it that meat and it helped it yeal so it is crazy the use u can get out if roadkill
Thank you for helping him not live in misery any longer 😊

You act like deer meat something to be picky about when its one of the best tasting meats and way healthier then beef or any other store bought meat

Facts, I've had a few road kill deer in my life.
That was one of the most entertaining and educational videos I've seen in ages!

You did good in all areas there. Sharing the meat with them is awesome for sure. Thank you for watching.
You wasted a tag. Next time submit a dnr road kill form online and you save yourself a tag. At least in my state we can. Look up your local laws.

True outdoorsman, act of respect by not only taking it out of its agony but using the meat.
I glad you were able to get out there and put the poor animal out of his pain quickly. So glad people don’t let these animals go to waste.
