I think I remember seeing this advertised in a few of my older issues of the Model Railroader magazines back in the early 2000s. This was around the same time as when Bachmann made the Harry Potter Hogwarts Express sets and they started making Thomas OO/HO items with very a few sets and characters. I wanted both the Hogwarts Express and Irish Railway, but I got into other things including the original Lego Hogwarts Express which I don't have anymore. Before I first got on the internet in 2006 (discovering Hornby and later other manufacturers) and I was still a kid, looking at whatever British-style item Bachmann made was the only way I saw European model trains.

if u r still looking 4 more Irish steam locomotive models, then i believe Murphy Models also did a repaint of the Bachmann 32-225, or their LMS Fowler Class 3F "Jinty". it was renumbered as 32-225z and painted in the livery of the Northern Counties Committee (NCC). Anyway, i just thought i should let u know.

Thanks Andrew. At this point I'm waiting (along with many others) to see what IRM might come up with in terms of an Irish steam offering.

I bought three of these sets on sale, years ago for about 60GBP each. I sold one of the green locos and bought another in CIE Cherry Black Livery. I never knew they were worth that much. They have run perfectly for all these years.

Wow, £60 was a steal. This set has be undervalued for many years - the sum of the parts always being worth more than the price. Thanks for sharing.

I have this, but don't have the box or instructions, so your video was very helpful, especially the parts diagram you showed in the video. I bought it back in 2007 or so and my kids used it a lot. Just got it out after many years, and the grease was all gummed up and it didn't run. I cleaned out the old grease, but the motor was burned out too, so I ordered a new one from the Bachmann web site and it should be running soon once I get the new motor in and put everything back together. I like the green color and the detail in the cars and locomotive. I might put an engineer and some passengers in it. Good to know it's actually OO scale and not HO.

Excellent. Great to hear you are getting it back on the tracks as it's a worthy set. Thanks for sharing.

Do like the coaches.anything thats representing irish railways is rare and expensive.a very nice set you have there. iv repainted triang mk 1's to orange and black for my r.768 hymek.neither prototypical but cheap and fun.

Yeah, unfortunately Irish modelling has become very expensive. Can have as much fun with some older locos and re-painted stock. I still have 2 rakes of Mk1 CIE repaints I won't be parting with. They're weathered and gritty and I love them.

It says OO Scale but what is the track gauge? Irish railways have a gauge of 5' 3" as opposed to international gauge of 4' 8.5". I have heard that some modelers take this into account on hand built stock.
You also mentioned Hatton's (of Liverpool), sadly they have ceased trading as of March 2024

The track in this set doesn't follow the gauge difference between Ireland and the UK so no worry there. The track and the train itself are standard 00 gauge. I ran it on my standard layout.

I’m looking at purchasing this set from my local hobby shop and currently it’s $280 USD. Anyone have any thoughts on that price?

If it's new/mint condition then it could be worth that as a collectible (assuming you were never going to run it). If you're going to run it and/or it's pre-owned then that sounds too much to me and something closer to $200 would be more in line.
