Hiya Tara. Thanks for doing this Post for me. Although I hold an MA, it also included original work, although it did not have the scale to upgrade to a PhD. My concern now with my PhD enrollment is that it might be another MA. There is no evidence to suggest the downgrade, though I still have yet to do my CoC, and time is ticking away. Over the holiday break, I might work away at finalising the CoC proposal/presentation and slides to hit the new year running. Plus, my partner, being in hospital for the past month, has seen me ignore the PhD for all that time. I'm not touching the PhD daily which is very disappointing. It's time to get reinvigorated and start focussing on what is important. And that is the PhD. cheers, doug
Hi Tara. Please could you do a video on PHD's and Mental Health unless you already have done! I think it would be valuable . I did a six year Open University Degree with severe Mental Health issues and wish i had had you and your amazing help!!
Absolutely, Rach. Happy to do that. There is a very strange study just published in Nature - September 30 I think - that is not helpful - but is indicative. There is strong research in this area, since the Belgian study. So I'll summon that. I also did an earlier session on 'Mental Fitness' if that is useful in the meantime. Biggest hug! txxx
My masters was especially confusing because it was an MA in English Literary Research and no one involved could tell me the difference between that and the MRes in English Literature except for a weird quirk in the cost of my fees because of a discount I was only eligible for because I was counted as being technically on a taught degree despite the only teaching outside of research supervisions being the same research methods module that I was expected to do at the beginning of my PhD.
GMP - there it is. What the hell went on there???!!!! What was the enrolment? What was this???? This is exactly what concerns me. You are LEGENDARY, you GREAT MIGHTY PANDA. And I'm sorry this weirdness is part of your vista. Wow. txxx
I must admit I’ve been looking for a clear explanation of the difference for years, especially after my PhD advisor in Japan who only had a masters never really helped in anyway then ditched me. Making progress again though, but it’s been rough. Do you have any recommendations for papers or books on the definition as well? Thank you as always.
Hi BB - there is a good reference list attached to this Post - there is some nice definitional work there. Both in terms of different masters and PhDs - but also diverse international examples. I've read the lot - so those references should help you. Most of them are open access as well! Biggest hug to you - and good luck!!!! txxx
