Extremely belated comment: I wish more attention were given to two vital reference, but very readable, books: THE UNRELEASED BEATLES by Richie Unterberger, and by LIFTING LATCHES by John C. Winn (itself the third in a series). These books feature much important information not found elsewhere. And the respective authors rarely turn up on the Beatles interview / podcast circuit.

I don't think Lewisohn is setting out to disprove anything about Magic Alex, he is just not taking anything for granted.
