  • A quick unboxing of my new Palosanto Edge Beveler!
    I've been using the edge beveler I got in my Amazon starter kit until now and I'm really happy to be upgrading my tools. I did a ton of looking into the various edge bevelers before settling on Palosanto.
    This is just an unboxing video and there will be a full review on this after I have a little while to use it.
    Pick up your own Palosanto Edge Beveler here: palosanto-fact...
    I think I forgot to mention it in the video, but I ordered the #2 size. If you aren't using thicker leathers, I'd probably recommend a #1 or #0.
    Of course if you're just jumping into leatherwork and just need a kit to get you started, I got this one on Amazon and still use some of the tools today: Beginner Toolkit: amzn.to/2LRlp0e

    My name is Tim. Thanks for checking out my UA-cam channel. I started leather working in July of 2020. My passion for leather work quickly grew as I learned and practiced. I received a ton of help from the leather working community when I was new and now I aim to pass on what I learn to other beginner leather workers. I post weekly leather craft videos that include tutorials, free pdf pattern templates, how to's, tips and tricks, and any other leather work content that I think could help you out!

    Dude, nice! I recently upgraded to a berry king after using a couple of cheap ones and yes, the difference is night and day! Invest in good quality

      Absolutely! I was between Palosanto, Barry King, and Ron's Tools. If I'm being honest, one of the reasons I went with Palosanto was because they had a black handle one haha.

      @@BlackFlagLeatherGoods well the Barry king came in sharp but not sharp enough for me so I gave it a quick whip and good to go. Like the style of the palosanto better.

      @@postuliosleather2853 Interesting that it wouldn't come sharp! I guess as long as it keeps the edge you put on it, though, it's all good.

      @@BlackFlagLeatherGoods I went with the Tandy Pro because of the black and brass but now I might switch to the Palo Santo because of the steel. The Since tools that Tandy uses are Stainless.

      @@oldhollywoodbriar I've actually heard good things about the Tandy Pro beveler but I've never used one.
      I was looking into the Since beveler at one point. They look super nice but there's almost no information online about them!

    Thank you for taking the time. Not to be a keyboard warrior I like the darkness theme but maybe a lighter stained wood just where your working that way we can see and camera may be able to focus faster for ya. Thanks again, great job.

      That isn't "keyboard warrior", just great feedback. I actually made that workbench before I had planned on doing UA-cam. I went dark mainly for product pictures, but I think you're right. I am planning on switching to a proper wood top at some point and ditching the plywood top so maybe I'll go with a lighter finish. Lighting is definitely something I'm constantly working on.
      I appreciate the feedback!

    Been using the Barry King edge bevelers for a couple of years. Something not quite right with those. Cannot put my finger on why. Just bought 1 Palosanto edge beveler. Oh my. What a difference. It glides through some of the toughest leathers to edge. It eats up the flesh side, then babys the grain side edge. I have a No. 1. May get the no. 2 in the future. The Cadillac of edge bevelers.

    • @BlackFlagLeatherGoods
      @BlackFlagLeatherGoods  2 роки тому

      It's crazy the difference it makes right? I was skeptical of the price right until I used mine. Worth every penny.
      For what it's worth I've heard Ron's Tools makes a great beveler too.
      Thanks for watching, Bruce!

    Hi Tim, I have a quick question about the edge bevelers. If one was to update to a Palosanto edge beveler, but having money for only one size right now, which size would you recommend? It would be mostly used for small leather goods like your own. Many thanks.

    • @teogabrielsson4717
      @teogabrielsson4717 Рік тому +1

      Since he did not answer you.. I can help. Depends on how small work you are doing. For instance a bifold leather wallet with skived edges you would use a 0 on the outer perimeter of the wallet. The inner pockets would be left untouched OR edged with a 00 beveler unless they are lined with thin goatskin in that case I tend to use a 0 on the pockets as well. But for single layer pockets I use the 00. Maximum size of the outer part of the wallet being around 1.5mm - 1.6mm
      If you are only doing small cardholders and tiny keychains a size 0 would suffice. For book covers/folders I would suggest either a size 1 or 1+ depending on which thickness leather you prefer.
      Belts at around 3.5mm works pretty well at size 2. But 1+ could suffice depending on budget and which look you prefer on your belts. I would not suggest doing belts with a 0 for example.
      I own Palosanto 00, 0, 1, 1+ and 2.
      So if you are doing mostly card holders and wallets = Beveler 0
      If you are doing covers/folders = Beveler 1 (or 1+ if you are doing belts as well)
      If you are doing belts = Beveler 2 (or 1+ if you are doing covers/folders as well)

    How good is that LePage contact cement? Have you tried barge? Is it similar? I have both barge and lapage but I haven’t been able to use them or start leatherworking because i am waiting on replacement parts for my workbench.

      I honestly think it's the same stuff. I've used both. I stick with Lepage only because I live 5 minutes from a Home Depot and they sell it.
