HALLIN FELL WILD CAMP

  • After arriving in Pooley Bridge I caught the ferry for a short ride across to Howtown.
From there it was a short walk up to the top of Hallin Fell before dropping back down a hot to get my tent up for cracking views over Ullswater.
This place is hugely popular in the warmer months but tonight it was me only tentbound for 16 hours!
Oh well decided to make the most of the time by having a “proper” Xmas feast complete with Xmas pudding, Stilton and port. I settled down for what I thought was a peaceful night only to get a rude awakening. I didn’t get out to measure the wind speed as it’s generally not a good idea when your door is facing in to it, but will speculate it was around 30mph.
Anyway back to sleep and a short walk back the same way I came. Loved it.

Nice one. Enjoyed watching that. The pick of the area! That’s a rare thing. What a feast you had for a camping meal too. All the best. Gav

It’s a rightly popular spot. Gets very busy in the summer though!
      Thanks for watching ☺️

Nice one mate. Hopefully the weather will clear up later. I’ve been here since Friday and it’s rained none stop!
Have a good one, try and find that place I put the tent. Best views of the lake from there.

Yeah I’m not great with heights, which is a pity cos I love being in the mountains! Merry Xmas to you also.

Where did you get the little pouch/bottle from for your port??

    • @boolay75
      @boolay75  8 місяців тому +1

My mum actually got them for me, but if you search Amazon for “plastic pouches for liquids” you’ll find lots of them. I’ve got a large one that will hold a full bottle of wine and smaller ones for whiskey, rum etc. Very handy! Get the ones that come with the mini funnels included if you can.

Yet another who hasn't read the Lake District National Park Authority regulations regarding wild camping in the Lake District......

Not entirely sure which rule you’re referring to, but feel free to enlighten me.

I camped solo, I left no trace, no fires, set up an hour before sunset, removed myself an hour after sunrise. For the whole time I was there, there was only ONE other person aware of my presence. You’ve got me stumped here my friend.

If you read the regulations there are guidelines stating that wild camping is tolerated if good practice is followed www.lakedistrict.gov.uk/visiting/where-to-stay/wild-camping. I think these days it would be difficult to stop wild camping. If steps were taken to stop wild camping I think political pressure would build for right to roam legislation similar to Scotland.

If you look at the Lake Districts own section on wild camping, it’s tolerated if you follow all of the rules which I did, so don’t really understand Brian’s feedback to be honest.
