You got the top 3 correct but personally I believe Benoit is #1 all time followed by Hart then Angle. Benoit just had an intensity that nobody ever had when it comes to technical wrestling. Angle came close 03-09. However, as you said unlike Eddie, Chris & Kurt... Bret stuck to technical wrestling & didn't have to incorporate any other style cause he was so damn good. Helluva list though! Great work as always!
In my humble opinion Benoit and Angle were the equivalent of each other in the ring be it their intensity, technical skills or submission skills, but Bret Hart is in a different league altogether. But that's just me and i respect your opinion.
Agreed. He was massively underrated but then again, I don't think he got as much TV time as some of the others. Him and Benoit were my favorite because of their intensity with every step.
Malenko should have been bigger in WWF/E than he was. He wasn't great on the mic, and his lack of size worked against him. We all know Vince had a hard on for big muscular men.
My top-3 will never change, it's Angle, Benoit and Bret. The thing about Bret, especially in WWE TV in the early to late 90's is that everything he did looked believable. I have never seen one of his matches against someone with an opposite style to his and thought "well that move is not realistic!". He was the first wrestler I saw growing up who could make a small package, a crucifix pin or a victory roll look like the most clever and reasonable way to beat a guy much larger than him. Yes Benoit was more physical and intense, yes Angle was flashier and charismatic, but Bret always looked like how a technical wrestler should.
Those are my top three as well. They had some counters, holds, and manuevers that I couldn't dream up if you paid me. I agree completely with your list and I'm very happy you included Malenko and Regal. However, your rating of Bret is correct as being the greatest technical wrestler, however, I don't agree that Bret was "largely technical through and through", although he is the greatest technical wrestler. Bret incorporated high impact moves as well as flying or flashy moves, plus he had a brawlig style as well: Suicide dive between the ropes, figure four around the ringpost, superplexes (from the top of the cage e.g.), in his matches with Hakushi he performed a couple of high risk moves, he went through tables before it was a thing, brawling punches and kicks that looked as real as you can imagine. The most important factor with Bret is, everything he did looked believeable and smooth. It never seemed that he wants to look extra pretty in the ring like Shawn or Eddie Guerrero, but it looked raw and realistic. His matches made always sense, and it looked like a real fight and clash, it never looked like a staged show.
Well Brock is without a shadow of doubt one of the best technical wrestlers, people forget that he used to have such grace in the ring or mat. He and Angle had some of the best matches and even with his size he could compete beautifully and adapt according to the wrestler. His 2002-04 run was just phenomenal.

When you were talking about Kurt Angle, it reminded me of the story from one of the Rumble shows in Saudi Arabia where Xavier Woods thought he'd try and take down Kurt for real to see what'd happen. Of course, Kurt spreads out and Xavier basically drops face first onto the mat. I love that commentary caught it too, I think it was Corey Graves that said, "Did Xavier Woods just try and double-leg Kurt Angle? Alright, chalk it up as one of the dumbest decisions in the business!" Xavier would later say that when he went for the takedown, Angle stuffed it and when they hit the mat Kurt laughs and goes, "stupid." before laying in some shots on him lmao.

Can't argue with the top 3, although Angle and Benoit can be interchangeable, I see them on Parr with each other at that no. 2 spot. Bret hart no. 1 always. Angle is my personal favorite of the 3 though, but Bret hart was a pure technical wrestler and no wrestler personified that style of wrestling more then him.
Awesome video! Just wanted to share my thoughts on this. I miss this style. Whenever I try to watch a modern WWE match I always get bored because of the lack of actual wrestling. It's just people spamming strikes now and the match sequences feel so unrefined. I don't feel the intensity and the high stakes in a match the way I did when I watched the likes of Kurt Angle or Chris Benoit. I know many will disagree and that's okay. I understand that the wrestling itself is toned down for safety reasons. I just miss watching technical wrestlers.
At the very LEAST, I’d have HBK in the honorable mention. He was the perfect mix of so many styles, with technical wrestling being the most prominent one.
I like the list although for me personally, Daniel Bryan (Bryan Danielson) is the best I’ve ever seen. It’s not just the moves but the story he tells as well. But you could honestly make an argument for any of these guys, they were all a step above everyone else at their peaks.
WOAH WOAH WOAH WOAH WOAH! As someone who grew up an amateur wrestler into college, let me correction a few things about angle. First: Angle won his gold in FREESTYLE not Greco-Roman. Second: Freestyle is actually arguably more popular than Greco, and has more participants at the Olympics (because men compete in both while women only compete in freestyle, so technically more participants at the Olympics in freestyle).
I pretty much agree with your list, I would swap Angle & Benoit around, but that's about it. It's a shame Benoit has be buried because of his atrocities outside of the ring, he was a helluva good technical wrestler.
If we only has a time machine. I would've loved to see a round robin style tournament between all those guys. Gotta shout out my boy Ravishing RICK RUDE.

Yeah WWE f-cked up big time, they got Dean Malenko, Eddie Guerrero, Perry Saturn and Chris Benoit yet they don't know how to used them, put two of them in "I quit" match and you'll got a great show, I mean c'mon man
I'll never be able to wrap my head around how people legit think mat/technical wrestling is boring. These chain grapples are ridiculous.
I miss WWE attitude era.
That 4:13 move was the best one of the best I've ever seen.
Now AEW showcases 200% more technical wrestling than WWE currently does.
6:45 lol it looked like he popped john cenas head off
1. Dynamite Kid
2. Bret Hart
3. Kurt Angle
4. Curt Hennig
5. Owen Hart
6. Chris Benoit
7. Dean Malenko
8. William Regal
9. Eddie Guerrero
10. Alberto Del Rio
I'm pretty shocked that Dynamite Kid didn't make it to the Top 3. In his prime, while being pretty much an asshole in normal life, he was the best in ring worker in the world. But, being a life long Bret Hart fan, I absolutely agree on Bret taking 1st place 🙂Still got my Hitman shades to this day :D
One of my favorites style of wrestling
Nice list but i feel like Ken Shamrock should have been on the list or at least got a mention i don't think he gets enough credit for how great of a technical wrestler he was he made tapping out a thing in WWE before it was violently shaking your head as a sign of giving up.
He also had a pro wrestling background before he joined UFC I believe. He is super underrated and was great in the ring
the phase technical wrestling is synonymous with kurt angle for many fans including me
Im so glad William Regal is on the list. I Grew up with Smash style of Lesnar, Bradshaw and other big guys. Regals style is so fluid.
Mr Perfect is the most underrated
Honorable mentions. Taz, Brock Lesnar, Lance Storm
Benoit vs Angle, Malenko vs Eddie, Bret vs Perfect. Any of those all day everyday for me
1. Bret Hart
2. Tatsumi Fujinami
3. Jack Brisco
4. Billy Robinson
5. Kurt Angle
6. Chris Benoit
7. Bryan Danielson
8. Jaguar Yokota
9. William Regal
10. Dean Malenko
Dynamite Kid wasn't just an honourable mention, he was one of the best. Regarded as such by the other wrestlers too.
As someone who wrestled since highschool up until college, I have grown so fond of technical wrestlers. More so than when I was younger. RIP Eddie
Some of the most memorable matches was angle v Benoit v Jericho, technical masterclasses.
Actually, this list is solid. Honourable mentions Perry Saturn and Tazz 💯👌🏻
The way they twist their opponents arms while doing a cartwheel of some sort is damn good.
Bret Hart and Benoit will always be the greatest technical wrestlers of all time.
Your list is exactly my list in that order and they were all my favorite wrestlers too loll.
I feel like Kyle O’Riley will go down as a top 10 technician
Probably wouldn't make this list, but i LOVED watching nunzio/little Guido!
it's time for a part 2 with Greesham,ZSJ, Garcia, Gulak, Thatcher, Lance Storm (very Strange is wasen't here)Chad Gable and many more, keep it up my man.
I was a die hard BretHart Fan however Owen Hart was best on his moves ..his agility technicalities were mind-blowing...RIP Owen .
Owen never had a great match unless he was working with Bret.
I concur with most of this list, and I think Bret IS the best PRO wrestler EVER....but I don't think he can be better than an Olympic Gold medalist and a NCAA D-1 champ. What we NEEDED to see, was Bret vs. Kurt in their mutual primes. Part of me is wondering where Shamrock and Severin are, but those guys were sorta gimmicky, so maybe nah. Also, no Flair? Maybe do a top 20
Angle from 2003 vs Hart from 1995, technical mat rasslin vs pure technical rasslin
Ultimo Dragon is the best technical wrestler I have ever seen, to date. WWE dropped the ball with him.
Can't argue with the top 3, although Angle and Benoit can be interchangeable, I see them on Parr with each other at that no. 2 spot. Bret hart no. 1 always. Angle is my personal favorite of the 3 though, but Bret hart was a pure technical wrestler and no wrestler personified that style of wrestling more then him.
no flair
@@HhhHhhh-nu4lm Bret hart has no flare?
@@jonomatuu i ment why is flair not on list
This was well put together video.
Eddie was so damn smooth in the ring
Unless you mean just pre wwe daniel bryan, you haven't seen enough wrestling then.
@@sadetwizelve - what about post-WWE Danielson? No one is on his level right now.
You did an amazing job amigo but you forgot one thing Chris Jerchio know one thousand & one holds lol 😂
That’s a pretty damned good list
Awesome content thoroughly enjoyed 👍
I pretty much agree with your list, I would swap Angle & Benoit around, but that's about it. It's a shame Benoit has be buried because of his atrocities outside of the ring, he was a helluva good technical wrestler.
I love how this list puts a spotlight on the stars of the WCW cruiserweight division. Love all their athleticism.
Are these sped up? Or is it like a low framerate effect making it look fast? Or am I just so sleepy?
Your work is excellent!
Big Show was the best technical wrestler. The big slap to the chest took all kind of strategt
If we only has a time machine. I would've loved to see a round robin style tournament between all those guys.
Gotta shout out my boy Ravishing RICK RUDE.
This list DOESN'T MENTION the names of AJ Styles or Shawn Michaels. 🤦🏻😡
WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU PEOPLE THINKIN' HERE !!!!!!!!!
What about Rick and Scott Steiner when they were tag team. There technical ring work was outstanding
Other Honorable Mentions:
*Stu Hart
*Ric Flair
*Harley Race
*British Bulldog Davey Boy Smith
*Iron Sheik
*Brock Lesnar

*Macho Man Randy Savage

As someone who wrestles myself I would put Eddie top of the pile for me he has it all and would translate now in any form of pro wrestling wwe aew njpw or your local indy
Great video and I agree with EVERY spot... Bret,Kurt,Y2J and Dean Malenko are my favourite wrestlers of all TIME...😎
