Gavin Russom invented the synth? You should probably double check that. The Moog Synth is older than Gavin Russom.
Saw LCD Soundsystem headline at Coachella. Didn't know them at the time but they became my favorite live band to see.

Most likely it's a monitor mix; what one of the performers hear in their in-ear monitors... the recorder likely just grabbed the wireless signal.
I was there and can confirm it sounded waaaay better live ^_^
