    This year I challenged myself to do at least one no spend day every week. Have been doing well so far, sometimes not spending for 2-3 days for the week, incl no cash spending, online ordering, or recurring charges for those days.

    Taking your advise about saving extra paychecks in Golden months has really improved my financial situation. I came across your channel early last year and implemented alot of your routines, but I just adapted them to my family lifestyle. I use to spend more and save less. Now I save more and spend less.

    Oooh! #5 gave me a great idea for one more thing I can adjust with my budget!
    Earlier this year, I've switched a few of my monthly subscriptions (Canva, Microsoft 365, Hulu, and Disney+) to annual subscriptions. It IS a great way to save because the annual payment is usually offered at a discounted rate; BUT Tip #5 made me realize that I could still budget what I would have paid for those monthly fees and add it to my savings account. So then what I can do is pull out the cash for what that total would have been with each paycheck, then at the end of the month deposit that cash into my savings so that I'll have additional funds in that account on top of what is deposited to it from my paycheck.
    Thanks for the idea, Alaina! :)

    We have a rotating calendar month between envelope method months and no spend months. Our free spending months are only our bday months. Its 3 of us. So the rest of the year we are saving a ton...im talking over a thousand a month.

    I have accounts at two separate credit unions. The first account dates back to childhood; the second was opened when a new credit union was running an opening special with an interest-bearing checking account. I have checking and savings through both accounts. I use one for day-to-day, and the other for investments and emergency savings. The money for the emergency account is pulled out of every paycheck, and, as you said, I don’t miss it. I just have to remember to make sure it goes into the savings account instead of the checking account.

    Great and helpful tips, thank you! :) I especially liked the 3rd tip on saving cash in envelopes because it can also help you with realizing that you have money and that you are doing quite well. In having physical money in a dedicated saving space like envelopes you can actually see, with your eyes, that you have money and maybe not stress out too much about it.

I had started it some years ago but stopped. Set a weekly one up just now. Wow, I just wandered upon your channel. I need to know how to make a planner. Can a person living on social security save money. I have changed many thing since I have been retired. Never had a 401K. I was always a good saver and I thought I had enough to help me through my retirement. (Depends how long you are going to stay alive...lol. 😂) So, Dog food was costing me 125 a month because of one of my dogs being an diabetic, so I started making my own dog food. I spend approx. 70 dollars and they are healthier and less Vet charges. (Man they are so expensive now days) I spend my time trying not to spend so I took up my college classes of drawing. Then I took up painting. (Furniture) making old into new so I would mentally think I had new furniture. (I have sold some things I have painted too!) You can go to the hardware stores and pick up “Mistake” paint for a fraction of the cost. This kept me busy through most of Covid flu. Now, even though I am soon to be 74 in 2 weeks, I do my own yard work instead of having the guys that cut my lawn do it. Dang I save 50.00 a month. Yes, I have some aches and pains, but then who doesn’t, at my age. 😂. So.... Do you have a vid on making these beautiful planners. Oh, by the way, you have beautiful hands, nice long fingers...Do you play the piano? Your printing is great too. Thank you my dear for helping us all save.

    What’s the difference in money market vs savings accounts 🧐

    • @WickedRiver
      @WickedRiver 3 роки тому +6

      I know you did't ask me but I still hope this helps a little: Money Market accounts usually have higher rates of return as well as higher minimum balances than a standard savings. The goal being to have people save higher amounts and entice them to do so by offering rates like 0.3% verse 0.1%. The rates usually get better with the more money you save, meaning a Money Market with a minimum balance of $2,000.00 may have a rate of .15% but one with a minimum balance of $10,000.00 may have a rate of .25%. Money Markets are used for long term savings where standard savings may be used for long term but typically end up being used for short term because well, life happens!

      Don't you dare go to online journaling. Using paper isn't wasting it...especially with your usage. Just beautiful!
      Digital tools are well and good... until the power goes out or the technology changes. Paper and non-running ink is a reliable method that not only contributes to healthy brain function (seriously), it also provides a tangible information experience. Seven millenia of manual writing instruments and resources can't be all wrong!

      @@workin4alivin585 i never stated that using paper and pen is wrong.
      Using fresh paper and not the other side of used A-4 sheets to create only online content is wastage. The owner would not revisit these pages after say 1-2 times.
      the world is low on resources lets be wise about their use

    • @workin4alivin585
      @workin4alivin585 3 роки тому

      @@bhumikasinghal6791 As a lifelong conservationist, I agree we should take care with our use of our resources, however, the "via media" (middle way) is always the wisest path. Too stingy is just as bad as too wasteful. The resources exist to serve us, not the other way around.
      These planners she's making (and the relatively few of us are actually making) serve a number of purposes--and that is the definition of good conservation. 1) goal journal. 2) time/activity planner, 3) personal historical reference, and 4) historical journals for succeeding generations (if people did not write down their "stuff," we would know precious little about the daily lives of the common man throughout history. IMHO these are gold and deserving of quality treatments.
      I have my calendars and planners (FAR less elaborate) from starting high school going through my late 40s, when my life slowed down enough that scheduling my life wasn't necessary. Re-discovering them and sharing them with my children is very special. They bridge generation gaps and seed wisdom and understanding. And they have been vital in my professional career (as portfolios of my experience for creating resumes, etc.). I am amazed at how much I did. No wonder I'm tired!
      I would invite you to re-frame your perspective in this instance.

    • @bhumikasinghal6791
      @bhumikasinghal6791 3 роки тому

      @@workin4alivin585 " lifelong conservationist," > thanks :) you did your bit for us.
      people kept historical references in middle ages mostly cz they didnt have the digital means.
      Information jotted down on paper / word doc is information. What you have from high school is cz then computers/phones were nt readily available. Offices now dont give wall /desk calendars mostly to cut costs and cz they are available on phone/comps.
      If these journals are going to passed around in the community were digital options are not present then sure ..this is the best way possible.

    • @workin4alivin585
      @workin4alivin585 3 роки тому

      @@bhumikasinghal6791 🙂
      Writing goes back to antiquity. It was the development of universities and then the printing press (combined to help spread literacy to the masses--which, in turn, helped spawn the middle class, along with banking/double entry bookkeeping) that caused the explosion of writing among common people.
      In terms of archiving, what we've learned in most recent days is that digital media is fickle. It is only accessible under two simultaneous conditions:
      1) there is electricity and
      2) there exists the technology, in working order, to store and access it.
      I cringe to think of the pictures and documents I've lost over the past 40 years b/c either the storage device deteriorated or the reading technology became antiquated (e.g. Windows 98 was an excellent OS, but is now so many generations back that data is essentially lost--in less than 30 years, whereas we have writings over 2000 years old).
      Computers were supposed to give us "paperless offices." But the ease of technology has only multiplied the use and waste of paper. To heck with journals as waste. Tis but a piffle.
      It's the schools and government/business offices around the developed world that are the real source of paper waste. I've worked in all three and without exception massive paper waste is ubiquitous. And don't get me started on junk mail. 🤯 At least copy paper is easily recyclable.
      This has been a lovely discussion. Best wishes to you.
