Just watched this older review, Lloyd…I really appreciated your enthusiasm with regard to the Invictus Ascent…I’ve been looking at them occasionally for a few years now. Not sure I’d want to spend that much for a new one but probably be content with a well cared for used one. Thanks.
Just bought mine, Invictus 1 with adjustable comb. Moved up from a Summit which I have shot for the last 4 years. Balance of the Invictus is terrific. and big reason for the change. Do not feel any of the extra weight and it is just such a pleasure to shoot. I did look, try a DT11 but the it did not fit me and felt like bulky and big to me.
Nice review Lloyd, I was lucky to own the CG Summit ascent. It was a fantastic gun and I believe equal to my friends F3, I hope to have the Invictus later this year. Regards Martyn
I second your complaint about the barrel selector. I have about 13k rounds through my summit impact and on occasion inadvertently move the selector. I’m fairly sure they’re the same design.
@@lloydyp What do you think of their 1 million rounds claim ? Do you think they really last that much longer than other brands ? I"ve never shoot a CG but, they seem to have everything in a shotgun that I'm looking for... I wish I knew someone who owned one but, they are not very common in my area.
Hi Lloyd, Thanks for these awesome videos and congrats on the 10K subscribers! I've been looking at the Invictus ascent and would like to try it out on the range, however here in Belgium it seems they only have the summit ascent available for testing. Is that model comparable to the invictus in terms of handling and ergonomics? The grip of the invictus seemed quite big for me, however I'm used to shooting a slim 693 grip... Thanks already for the advice! Cheers
Not the same at all I'm afraid, although if you find the summit grip too big then you wont like the invictus as it's generally bigger / heavier. Thanks for your support :)

Good review as always. If possible can a review be done of the Summit Ascent to give a direct comparison of the non-Invictus guns. Also in your reviews can you give the actual weight of the guns as opposed to saying they're "heavy" - that'll give a better idea of what you mean as I think heavy is anything over 8 1/4 lbs. thanks.
I would really appreciate if you did a review on a side by side shotgun, make and model is up to you. It's too bad that the side by side market is almost nothing these days since everybody is buying O/U shotguns, esthetically a sbs will always look prettier than a O/U shotgun. BTW a really liked your review on the Krieghoff Parcours, when I have the money to buy one, I will.
Nice shotgun! I am really curious about the Sauer Apollon. I unfortunetly can not find a review that is not in russian. If you could get your hands on one, it would be great! Jonas
Hi. What are you getting in the Invictus over the Summit Ascent? In the brochure there does not seem to be much difference apart from the modular action and the ability to replace the parts
Gareth Knobbs that’s pretty much it on paper but you need to handle the invictus to feel the difference. The balance and feel in the shoulder are different as the invictus has a heavier action.
Hey Lloyd do you think this gun is superior to the 695 Beretta? I love the field version of the 695, Its beautiful gun and I was hoping to use as clay gun occasionaly and field. But I like the invictus equally as well. of course
Honestly I was referring to the 695 field. There is a store in Atlanta that has a large selection of the caesar guns. But the Berettas are like 6 months out for the 695 sporter. I really dont like the 694 reciever with the blue and plain look. I do like the 695 field and was wondering if it could be used for both field and clay shooting. There is one in stock. All they have. A 28 inch 12 GA field. . I'm a sucker for the pretty guns and it's beautiful. Or of I should just go with a sporter to dual purpose. I like both of the guns . Just don't know which would be better for dual purpose. I have an older model citori lightning that I use for both now. I believe it's a sporter
Man that's an interesting question. I'm not actually sure, I haven't shot an Invictus for years now so would need to revisit one before deciding. What are you shooting at the moment?
@@lloydyp Hi Lloyd, My Summit is a 20 g sporting clays model and I got it new a couple of years ago. It came with 6 extended tubes and a friction style wrench. I haven't patterned them but they do seem to work well so some things are better left alone!
Everything is replaceable on most all of the top flight guns, in a less gimmicky fashion. I spent a great deal of time speaking with dealers about all of the options and universally all of them said the Invictus isn't on par with the Krieghoff, Perazzi, Kolar, Blaser. In the UK you can get an Invictus for the equivalent of what we pay for a 692 here in the states, that makes it a much better buy. At $7200 for the fixed choke Invictus here, that puts it in some rarefied air. I bought the F3 as it felt the best to me and it has already been back to Blaser USA twice to be fixed, in less than 1000rds so what do I know :) REALLY appreciate all your reviews there, and the Perazzi stuff you did for Bywell.
My suggestion would be to pattern the gun and see what happens. As will all things around fit, if you do it the same way every single time, the gun will pattern the same every time, inconsistency is what will kill your performance.
Hi Lloyd, I am toying with the idea of using this gun for high bird shooting, I currently have a inv v sporter and love it, your thoughts would be appreciated
The invictus will certainly be a fine gun for whatever sort of shooting you wish to use it for, but if you mean game shooting in the sense we do here you might find it a bit heavy to lug about for a game day.
Do you think that the Ascent model is better than the flat rib version ? In terms of the rib and stock. For sporting clays and some wood pigeon hunting.
I think you best try one and see what fits you best. Gun fit is super important, the ascent has a good "head up" fit but it's not for everyone. I would have one, and while I appreciate this isn't necessarily what you want to hear, it's a very personal choice.
you are thinking about getting a high rib gun, are you unhappy with the fit or the vision you get with a flat rib, hence looking for as change, or do you fancy one because a lot of them are popping up and the look really cool? I know when I bought my first high rib I knew what the idea was in terms of head position but I didn't know my arse from my elbow in real terms about what that meant for me. I guess what I am saying is: if it ain't broke don't fix it, if you shoot really well with a flat rib, why change unless you are looking for something different.
I like the idea of an Ascent gun. Iam used as said in flat ribs with good resaults, but there is always room for geting better if i can. In the shop looks like it fits. I like the sight i get. Are these guns set to shoot 50/50? Is there a true benefit over flat ones?
If you like the fit and feel then go for it, the POI will very much depend on how the gun mounts for you, it is a sporter so ideally if it fits you it will shoot where you look. The benefit on a high rib gun is essentially down to head position, with a high rib and a Monte Carlo stock your head will be more upright, that's pretty much it, This is purported to give better vision and a more natural shooting position but I like shooting both, and honestly I cant actually "feel" any difference when shooting flat or high, I just mount and shoot. Like I said, you really need to shoot a high rib to understand the difference.
Did you try fibrewad’s through this when you tested it Lloyd? Just picked up an Invictus iii ascent and need to track down a decent patterning cartridge for sporting. Any ideas?
In the UK, the Invictus is now £4.5k vs the ProSport at just under £3k. On that basis, purely based on value for money I would chose the Browning. The Invictus is now priced as a premium gun, and it is an excellent gun, but the Browning is unbeatable at the price.
Yuriy S. personally, I would have a Caesar, but they are very different guns. I like heavy guns and the Invictus is significantly more money than a 692.
Hi Lloyd, enjoy watching your reviews, you recently revisited the 692, if push came to shove where would your money go between the invictus, the Beretta 692 and the Blaser F3??also what would be your take on the slightly raised ribs like the ascent, was it easy for you to adjust to them, any advantages?
These are in quite different price brackets Mario, also you missed out the 725 prosport that really should be included in that list. Basically, if money is the top factor I would got for either the Invictus or the ProSport. I like the heavier guns and both of these are spectacular value for money. I like the 692, but it's a little on the light side in standard spec for me. The F3 is a genuinely fantastic gun but you have to really want the German engineering to warrant the extra 2k. The Ascent rib isn't adjustable, neither is the F3 Vantage, they just shoot POA with a higher head position, so all you need to do is set the cast and drop of the comb to get your desired POI. Hope that makes sense.
Tks Lloyd, for the quick response, have shot Perazzi bunker and flyers for 30 years, am transitioning to Fitasc sporting clays, cannot make myself pay what a newPerazzi HT costs these days although clearly would be my fist choice. I tried a CG Invictus the other day and found it quite pleasing, much more so than the Browning 725 black which I also tried, have not had a go with the pro sport. Thought the slightly raised fixed rib would help me achieve better vision and compensate my bad habits, (tend to crawl my stocks from my pigeon days) any thoughts on that. Also what have you heard regarding CG durability/quality? they are relatively new comers to the game
The Invictus is built like a tank, can't see any reason it wouldn't last, especially given the interchangeable jointing and lockup system. I can take or leave the raised rib guns, I enjoy shooting them but honestly I can't tell the difference any more as I shoot new guns all the time. As long as it fits, the rib doesn't really make a huge difference unless you find yourself more comfortable in your mount / fit.
