Very diplomatic, Tesla step up or pushed up? Did you see Bjørn Nyland has got is classic Tesla back, none AP etc.. similar to yours, should be interesting to see what he does and what gets upgraded on Melenium Falcon.

Our model X MCU failed last fall when coming back from vacation while towing. It was not pleasant. We bought the upgrade to 2.5 which cost $2500. I hope we can get a partial refund.
Just got a letter from Tesla, and we may be getting some money back!
It is always great to see you James, it doesn't matter what the subject is! I am really surprised that the foil worked, because it is such a great heat conductor. I doubt that your shoes have room for an extra pair of socks, so the foil is better than nothing. I wonder how many layers of gold leaf it would take to be equivalent to the thickness of one piece of aluminum foil? I can only imagine how warm you would be, broke, but warm!
It reflects the heat back to the body, just like those emergency thin foil blankets.

James, not correct. You CAN upgrade the calssic Tesla from MCU1 to MCU2. I paid to get the upgrade and works wonders on my P85 from april 2014. Not only is there now all the games and Netflix but more importantly LTE and very fast performance for navigatation. Mine did not stop working, but I was tired of the old one which was slow and I had to reboot too often.
I'll have raise that with Tesla and see if I can get the upgrade then, I would like it

@@JamesCookeVlogs to clarify the update is only for the chip as you said, Tesla also reduced the MCU upgrade price by 40%, you should definitely get a quote from Tesla for the upgrade 👍

Thanks James my car is an early 2014 model and I have been having increasing teething troubles, linked I believe to my MCU. eg blank screen , failure to go from Pin to cancelling Car off and being able to drive without Tesla Assistence.. keep up the good work!
we love your ideas and your info. on renewable energy on Tesla and space x and all those great moments . take care and do not quit, keep the spirit up. remember all of us are in the same boat, let´s keep the fucking boat at float :)
I really can’t recommend cycling shoe covers more highly. I use them mostly to keep the rain out, but they will help on cold days too.
Well done to do 50 miles on those gravel tyres in 50 miles!
In the summer 100 miles is easier especially on faster tyres and faster wheels.
Glad to see your S is going well too.
BTW, the MCU stands for the main computer unit.
Hi James Tesla Digbeth changed a sister board on my 2015 70d they also did the outstanding recalls.Digbeth were very good
My Aug. 2016 Model X screen, at the top, no longer displays the BIG T for access to vital info, like
// Serial number, miles driven, flash-rom version, and such...
// Oh my. 2-button reset = no improvement. uhh.
// ... and what else? Like emergency phone # and such. Gosh!

You say it doesn't affect the actual driving but it would if you have the pin to drive function enabled would it not? (I'm not a Tesla owner (Yet), so I'm not sure.)
That's a very good point. I would imagine that the update mentioned would also disable PIN to drive, if the MCU memory was failing, to keep the car functioning, but this is just a guess

The chip that's failing afaik was due to unnecessary debug logging that even tesla doesn't check ua-cam.com/video/o-7b1waoj9Q/v-deo.html link to a year old Rich Rebuilds video with a "hacker" who has been fixing these for ages.
When you said "Jasper" I thought you were going to have him in the car. Have we both here got to start a We want Jasper Club to at least get glimpses as to how he is growing. When I was a child I thought that it was a long time, now pushing 80, I realise it was just a blink of an eye.

Tesla doesn't deserve credit for this. I've been trying for a year to get this issue fixed in my car, and the only reason they're doing it now is because the NHTSA was going to force them to anyway. They are dragging their feet on AP 3.0 computers as well. I am not happy.

Hi James.... I had the Christmas software update push to my 2016 S on Christmas eve.. left it until boxing day and did the update... unfortunately it cam back with storage issue centre console in degraded mode. Rang tesla on the 28th Dec and booked it in. How ever the day before the appointment tesla rang and said they don't have the part and the rebooted it for 2 weeks later.. its now March and I'm still waiting.. 4 canceled appointments now, however its booked in on Friday 5th. I belive they now have the part in this time so heres hoping.

James, do you remember where you heard about Tesla extending the warranty on the door handles? I am about ready to try and fix mine on my own for my 2014 S. Also, from what I've been told by Tesla Service, 2014 S is compatible for the MCU upgrade at $1500 USD. Just had it done on our 2017 X -- which really does make everything feel snappy. For $2500 I was hesitant but for $1500 I felt the value was worth it.
I asked Tesla in the UK last week about Model S door handle warranty. They were insistent it is only 50,000 miles or 4 years as standard.
We possibly could have protection under the Consumer Rights Act in the UK but it’s is yet another battle rather than embracing a known issue.
Also Tesla are on Gen 3 of the S door handle and those at the only ones they fit now and (unfortunately) they need programming via the Toolbox laptop service application for stop and home positions. The good news is though they are more reliable than Gen 1 or Gen 2 door handles.

Hi James. I have an AP1 MS85 from 2015 and have just had the recall completed after getting a message on my screen. I asked about upgrading to MCU2 and it is possible according to Tesla FYI...including for cars pre AP1 i was told.

@@JamesCookeVlogs Ah brilliant - that would be a great video to do also showing what pre AP1 & AP1 cars still get when upgrading and if the speed improvements, 4G etc are still worth it. I’m still on the fence due to the loss of FM unless you pay more for the radio module. I’d love to get your take on it once done!

How well did the tin foil work by the end of the 50 miles?
My feet were cold by the time I got back, but they were definitely warmer for longer than without the tin foil
I had my MCU chip replaced a few weeks ago and its been a nightmare ever since . Every morning the car wont drive unless i do a scroll wheel reset and the quickest I've been able to drive the car from unlocking it is five minutes . Its going back to tesla tomorrow :-(
