James, did you watch the Boeing flight take off ? It looks like it is straight out of the 90s. The Mission Control could have been 1968 with the people there. So different than space X
Butch’s Starliner is named Calypso. Lots of interesting things can be read into that, beyond the wooden Calypso sinking and never being launched again.
'In the past there have never been any rescue possibilities'. Actually I believe you are wrong on this one. I believe the US and Russia would always have a way to get anyone on the space station off in an emergency. A quick google says there is always a Soyuz docked at the space station for emergencies. Yes they would prefer not to use it in this instance as it would mean evacuating everyone which they do not want to do.
"Everything that happens in space, gets tested first". Almost all of Boeings problems with starliner on all flights to date can be traced directly to a lack of testing. SpaceX has a philosophy of test with real hardware and they had the luxury of having other flights for other purposes where they could test the rocket extremely thoroughly and dragon medium thoroughly prior to ever putting humans on it. Boeing has a completely different philosophy where they test on the ground and launch with humans on the second flight. That does work, but your ground testing must be very very thorough and it turns out that Boeings ground testing was terrible.
Just a few thoughts. It's not a technological issue. it's a political issue. "Who signed off on this??", etc . Compatibility. of systems. Ever watched Apollo 13? make an "Adapter box". Plug SpaceX systems into 1 side and NASA systems into the other. (I BET someone at SpaceX had something like that "Sketched out" within a day of the problem arising?) So... You need a pilot to press a button(?) at a particular time during a Starliner return? (Inspiration? "Airplane, the movie" final scene 😉😂) Optimus? Doesn't even have to be "Autonomous" (Although that WOULD be cool?) Send a VR Headset up for one of the NASA crew to operate. If it works.... First Bot with a medal! (And they SHOULD hold a Medal ceremony! just for giggles, plus every 8 year old that sees it would want to build Bots when they grow up)

It will take 4 weeks to update Starliners autonomous return software because they havent written it yet!

If the Starliner crew did name the vehicle it would be "Lemonade" or "POSitively."
Hurry up with the next vlog! 21-09-2024

I will ask a friend who works at Boeing who the guy is that is taking things that are safe, cutting 5%, and making things unsafe!
