  • Everyone keeps asking us, "How much smaller is the Taos than the Tiguan?" Well, that depends. The Tiguan has a 7 passenger option. If you use that, the Taos actually has more trunk space than the Tiguan, but only has room for 5. If you're talking about using both as a 5 passenger, the Tiguan has more cargo space, but almost identical passenger space. Both however, can comfortable accommodate our 6' 3" test dummy in the driver seat and 2nd row without moving the driver seat forward. The Tiguan is less than 2 inches taller, so headroom is not a problem in either for most passengers and the Taos is actually .1 inches wider.
What you have in the end is two great VW SUVs, and don't let the Subcompact (Taos) and Compact (Tiguan) Labels fool you, they are larger than most vehicles in their respective classes.

Update! I tried the launch control of the 7 speed DCT on the Taos it works like charm, can't belive they advertise this vehicles as a 8.4 second 0-60 when in reality it can do 6.9 secons using regulat 87 gas when using launch control

The Taos is not a sub-compact. It is a smallish compact. It is bigger than the prior generation Tiguan, which was a compact.
One thing to note: The Taos gets some of that great rear legroom by having a lowered rear seat cushion. This lengthens the rear seat legroom because of the angle of the front seats, but at the cost of sitting very low if you are a rear passenger, with your knees pointed up at an angle if you are tall.

I read the passenger volume on the Taps is 99.9 and the Tiguan passenger volume is 123.9. You quoted 1cu ft difference between the two.
Maybe I don’t understand how the specs are analyzed.
    Good review.

I believe the 123.9 Cu ft passenger volume number for the Tiguan is when equipped with the 3rd row option. It has two extra seats in that configuration, hence the extra volume. We based our comparison on the 5 passenger option for the Tiguan which if I recall was just over 101 cu ft. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment!
