How the Shortest NBA Player Ever Destroyed Everyone

- Muggsy Bogues is the Shortest NBA Player Ever to play in the NBA. Muggsy played an incredible, 13 seasons in the NBA from 1988 to 2001 before retiring in 2001 whilst playing for the Toronto Raptors.
From getting shot at 5 years old, to having a decade long NBA career, Bogues story is incredibly inspiring. The things that he had to face throughout his life are shocking, yet he never let them get him down. All the negative comments about his height, people not believing in him and all the traumatic things that surrounded him only motivated Muggsy.
Muggsy is most well known for his time playing for the Charlotte Hornets, but he also played for the Golden State Warriors, Toronto Raptors and the Washington Wizards (they were called the Bullets at the time.)
Muggsy would shock the NBA and average a double double in 1993, which for someone of his size was un heard of, and no one has even come close to this since.
He would also win a Gold Medal at the FIBA World Cup in 1986, whilst he was a Junior at Wake Forest. - Спорт
I am aware I made a mistake regarding how Shotguns work. I am from New Zealand and have never held/shot a gun before and just went off what was written in Muggsy's book that I referenced for this video. Apologies for the mistake!
damn, You mademy witty comment obsolete,
I'm glad you corrected this mistake. Other than that statement this was an excellent documentary. Great work and kudos to you for the correction about the shotgun.
I wish I could say the same about guns. That's seriously one of the worst things about the US.
Muggys bogues seriously deserves a movie
For real
Asap
Spacejam counts. lol
It would be too short for the theater
@@kukuljonjonkwondo1588I'll count it as half a movie. Get him an hour-long ESPN documentary and we can call it done
Being 5’3 myself, Muggsy will always be my hero
Muggsy looks like a khosian.
I respect this
I'm 5'4 but same, whenever I feel embarrassed about my height I always think of Muggsy and feel better
You might change your mind once you hit puberty. We all thought we had it all figured out when we were little.
😂😂@@chriswebster24
I was introduced to Muggsy Bogues from Space Jam as a kid and he was always one of my favorite players at the time. He inspired a lot of kids to believe anyone could make it to the NBA and he was such a professional. All the people that made fun of his height didn't realize the impact he had on the league at the time. In the end, he has directly influenced many players and future players including Steph Curry. He truly is a legend and he deserves his flowers.
Elite comment.
That’s cool that he was always one of your favorites, at the time. He was always one of my favorites, too, but just for a little while, and at a different time. I didn’t care for him when he was in college, or in the NBA, but I loved him before that, and after he retired, for a few days. I always have.
Another amazing video bro! Had no idea that he went through all the off-court adversity that he did. It really shows how mentally tough he was. Thanks for sharing Muggy's story
Thanks bro!
Shot at the age of 5.... 5??!! 😢
Heightism is real (even mj was guilty of this towards mugsy). Mugsy was the real deal. Great video.
100%
It also works against tall people too.
I grew up in Matthews NC where Muggsy still lives. My dad did some construction loans for him through his work and lots of people around town would run into him. Muggsy had a reputation of always being humble and always polite and smiling. Only time I ever saw him in person was while waiting at a shop getting my motorcycle serviced and a red Corvette convertible rolls up, and out pops Muggsy, some other guys yell at him "hey Muggsy, what you buying?!", and Muggsy just yells back "Naw, just getting something fixed!", and he was in and out of that shop quick as lightning, so even in his 50's Muggsy was walking as fast as some people run and just super spry, just an old random memory but still cool to see him in person outside of a Hornets game from my youth.
Reminds me of running into Isaiah Thomas in Tacoma in the greeting card aisle at Safeway. Both of us being assholes getting a card same day. We had an interesting interaction.
Knowing all of the adversity he went through, seeing Muggsy’s story is all the more amazing!
That's dope. Thanks for sharing
Tyrone Muggsy Bogues showed that you still can be a good baller if you are short. Much respect for his attitude.
That double double season in 93-94 was incredible, but Muggsy was consistent, he had a six/seven year stretch where he averaged 9/9...
Muggsy was incredibly un-turnover-prone. He averaged 9.3 assists and 1.8 turnovers in his prime. For context Chris Paul averaged 10.3 assists and 2.4 turnovers and he's widely considered as one of the best ever at not generating turnovers
I was always a fan of Mugsy Boggs. He is such an inspiration to us shorter people. He is arguably the Greatest Basketball Player of all time Inch For Inch!
Mugsy had everyone under 6fr thinking we all had a chance 😂😂, coach use to always bring up Mugs in practice especially after he locked up Jordan. Y'all don't know what that did for us 😂😂
Muggy's always been one of my favorite NBA players. I had no idea his story was so inspirational. That makes me like him more.
What man shoots at a 5yr old kid no matter what they did he’s 5 smh
Black people happens here every other day in Philadelphia
America is a normal country
Buckshot too, wasn't looking to just wound. It's wild to shoot a 5 year old over a broken window. Video didn't say if he was charged. Really hope so.
i would do that easy with the biggest smile on my face
@@dkdebesteverybody who knows you knew that already
We will never see this again in our life's ! I was lucky to watch him play, He was special and rare. Also a beast !
Very dope story and edit homie. I was born and raised in charlotte and was a child who witnessed mugshots and the buzz that the hornets brought to a town destined for basketball greatness
Thank you for the kind comment bro! Thats awesome you got to grow up watching him live, I'm jealous for sure!
That's a tough guy Right there... Drug infested neighborhood..5 ft 3 but went to NBA..
It must've been really tough in between that life too.. salute!
You forgot about the part where he gets shot!
What a superhero, role model, exceptional human being, under appreciated but loved by fans and team mates throughout. The business behind most of the world loved sports tends to heavily influence them in a negative way, behind the scenes and most importantly IN SPITE of how dedicated and hard working some of these athletes are. What saddens me the most is that we, as fans and supporters of these teams, mainly due to their athletes obviously, unknowingly become pawns by fueling their cold and heartless business methods because we love the game, what it represents, the players, etc. Same with the NFL, and most if not all of these organizations. I truly wish there could be a revolutionary change to make these teams, games, and the whole culture behind them and us as audience, fans, do away with all of that, have it closely regulated maybe to protect first and foremost players such as “Mugsy”, and many others like him. All the best to this legend.
I never knew he went thru all that. I knew he was a tough player and now I understand why. He really had an amazing motivation to prove haters wrong. Great video! I respect him even more now
Yea man reading his book I was shocked. There is even more too his story that I wasn't able to include, so if you enjoyed this go check his book out - "The Godfather of Small Ball."
He, along with other short guards, were my inspiration to play sports, specifically, basketball. Spud Webb, Isaiah Thomas (out of UW), and the others under 6' who played amaze me.
Fully agree with you man. IT's story is another amazing one.
I was born 24 inches long. I was his height 5'3" and 89lbs when I was 8!.
He was awesome!!!
Give credit where it's due!!!
My brother was a 12lbs. 24 in. baby also. His favorites were Mugsy and BJ Armstrong, he always liked the small(er) guys.
Bro Muggsy was my inspiration when I was a kid I’m so happy that someone made a video about him, You got my subscription❤️
Glad you enjoyed it!
Can't knock him for the lack of winning it all at Wake. He was up against the G.O.A.T. Other than that Muggsy was a bad man. He played against some monster teams in the NBA as well.
Swear i had to double check, 600 and something views, was expecting some mad numbers, great video dude. Deffo looking forward to the next one
Thank you so much man, means alot. Just focusing on improving each video, not the view count, that will come with time. Thank you for your support! Next one dropping in around a month!
It’s boring. That’s why.
@@LetsWasteEachOthersTiempowhat are you expecting from an informative Nba video?
I don’t think it’s boring
@@grapekoolaid1361 I don’t care what you think.
Dude I love this. I didn’t know anything about Bogues besides his height and I’m coming into the most adversity I’ve faced in my relatively privileged life. This picked me up. I appreciate this story. Appreciate you.
Muggy would thrive today, the “let ‘em score” era.
You gotta be insane, I'm from the 80s these players today are almost cyborgs average players today skill for skill are able to do what the greats did in my day. I'm a OG but I'm not blind either. They would let him shoot more but I wouldn't be easier for him
@@Robskimask That's because you can't touch the players today. In the 80s you can rough up your opponent to get them out of their shooting groove or fave shooting spot. There's no reason why 80s players can't shoot as well today. It's just practice.
@@MrAkaacer But there’s less fouls called today though.
@@Robskimask you think if these older players had the modern technology and medicine that could maximize their performance they would be cyborgs as well?
@@user-lw2xw9nz1yThere's less fouls called because nobody plays defense. If they called as few fouls in a late-80s Bulls-Pistons series as they do nowadays, someone would be dead by the end.
Spud Webb and Muggsy Bogues, heroes to short kids everywhere in the 80s/90s
Muggs, Larry and Alonzo were absolutely incredible in the 90s three way they handled biz. Muggs and his HS teammates being drafted to the NBS was incredible too. RIP Reggie!
Hollywood are always looking for inspirational stories this is one, I don't even watch basketball but I am surprised and delighted at this man story
Netflix worthy doc. I loved muggsy as a 90s kid watching him play jordan, but being so young never knew his story. What a champion he was.
ESPN already has a Mugsy documentary. It's one of the best.
Loved this, one of my favorite players and still finding more out about him is a gift, ty.
We LOVED mugsy bogues!
Mugsy was one of the most determined players in NBA history. A true gem, and he also realized that some things are more important than basketball.
Muggsy was my inspiration to work hard at basketball despite being the shortest on the court in my younger years - he had me thinking I could make the NBA - I barely made the bench of my D1 college team but hey, he still gave me that self belief lol
Your story further cements just how great of an athlete he really was.
I can't believe I've never heard of such an amazing player till today! 5,3 and played in the NBA! I didn't even know that was possible. He seriously deserves a movie!
these documentaries i swear. glad youtube put you on my feed
This is and should be the biggest inspiration among basketball peers. Kids should heremore about this guy.
28:36 a similar thing happened to IT recently where the spurs crowd cheered “WE WANT I.T. “. Crazy how history repeats itself
Shout out IT, what an amazing journey, truly inspirational.
an absolute legend! so glad this video exists
As a kid I loved Muggsy Bogues. Him, LJ, Mourning, Curry…they were a hell of a team. Damn, only 5’3, yet a giant!
"Just the buckshots" My guy that's the dangerous part of the shell
Back 2 back great vids you deserve a million subs
One day bro, one day. I'm just glad you have enjoyed both of my videos so far! I really appreciate your support.
I thought he had a million subs then I saw he only had the 2 videos and 5k subs I watched both vids I was hoping for more lol
Damn bro, another banger keep up the good work :) can't wait for the next vid to drop!
Thank you bro! Next one dropping next month.
“He wasn’t hit by the shotgun shell, just the buck shot” 😂 Bro, do you even gun 2:12
He doesn't even do research outside of wiki pages. I wouldn't be surprised if this was mostly AI. It's comical that someone would say Muggsy was destroying the league. He is barely remembered.
Yeah, man. Video was very well done. Great research and delivery. I appreciate all the classic footage and going through the struggles Mugsy had to deal with. Felt like one of those tear-jerker movies at times lol. Subbed and looking forward to the next mini-doc on NBA legends!
Thank you so much for the kind comment, if you loved this video you're going to love the next - it's a 2000/2010s era player.
@@Outofboundshoops Nice!
Amazing heart felt video. Great editing. Great storytelling. I’m hooked. Please keep it up!!!
New video coming very soon my guy, stay tuned!
Wow! Thank You for sharing! Amazing!
Aw man, bravo 👏🏽 Excellent documentary! I thought Spud Webb was the shortest NBA player to ever lace them up. This is very inspirational!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed.
He's truly an inspiration and a positive role model. Respect 👊🏽💯
This is one of the most realest stories of the NBA
🔥🔥🔥 video man, love this channel so far
Thank you bro! More coming soon
Great video man! Didn’t even know it was your second vid in your channel. Amazing editing and commentary! Keep it up 🔥
Thank you bro! Appreciate that. More on the way so make sure you sub.
Mugsey''s skill level and influence in the game was far beyond what most people including players know. Because of his height he knows things he taught himself, I think he had an impact A.I. Because they both had a drive within themselves unmatched by others.
Context:
Shotguns typically only fire bird/buck shot or slugs as rounds. The practice of loading "Buck and Ball" fell out with the advent of rifling outdating the need. In short, Mugsy got blasted with buckshot (still deadly) and luckily didn't catch the whole spread.
Wow, what a story.
This is how you never know how God will use your life for others. Muggsy's mother was such a huge influence of truth and love for him. And then Mugsy's friendship with Dell Curry and his influence on Steph Curry - who would know that at the time of Muggsy getting saved from that gunshot at 5 years old, he would be a mentor and inspiration on one of the greatest shooters that basketball has ever seen.
Time to enter Muggsy into the Basketball Hall of Fame. He never won an NBA-championship but, just like Charles Barkley, did leave an indelible mark on the game. One cannot discuss point guards in the NBA and not include Muggsy. One of our all time favorite players.
Mugsy is an amazing man, Great video of a great man.
great video! great story!
some of the blurring patterns may have shifted. it helps around the court showing where to look, but with the vintage photos it's all over the place, idk tho
awesome video, keep up the great work
Thanks bro!
Keep making videos your gonna blow up
Thank you bro - I drop these monthly, so stay tuned for the next one, I know you'll love it
Warrior King.
man do i love this type of content 🙏 keep it up
Thank you my guy!
In my eyes he is the apitimy of what it is to be a true champion. Growing up and knowing that someone who was the same height as me and was fearless. Fighting through all that pain and advercity. Showing that you are what limits you and not society (society does make life difficult). He was an unstoppable force for good. The fact that Micheal Jordan was the one who made him push his skills to a higher level. That speaks volumes.
Respect
MJ knew what Muggs could do he only did it with players who would recognize there greatness, and who has the mind set to go up one
wonderful production quality and narrative
Amazing video, thank you very much!
I would love it how Muggsy would out perform his 'novelty' reputation. He was my then gf's favorite player so we would be sure to catch every game broadcast in the L.A. market, and time after time we would find ourselves in a sports bar or at a party being "WOWed" by Muggsy's astonishing feats and even more astonished because he was 5'3". I loved how he made Magic look like he was wearing lead filled Converses and then watch Magic's frown turn into a smile because it was Muggsy who just made him and the Defensive Great Michael Cooper look like they rarely ever did, like foos with their feet stuck in the mud.
I will end my comment with 2 things, 1. Chick Hearn praised Muggsy (paraphrased): "Ladies & Gentlemen this young man (Bogues) may get attention for his being so short, but folks, don't be fooled, he's the real McCoy and will steal your heart just as quickly as he steals the ball and an assist or bucket are sure to follow just like the smart fans and the true fans follow Bogues". Bogues carried himself so exemplary throughout his career, on and off the court, he won the hearts of naysayers time and time again and I was so glad I got to watch him play... THANKS MUGGSY!
Inspiring! BTW- what kind of man would shoot a 5-year-old…
Muggsy Bogues, a true giant in life.
Being born and raised in Charlotte Muggsy Bogues was my favorite Hornet as a child, I even met him and he truly loved the kids even in his PRIME!💪🏾
What tenacity. Truly admirable.
The fact that the AI images in this vid actually added to the storytelling is a positive manner is kind of unsettling
Well it would’ve made the video better if his script wasn’t AI generated too lol
I have mad respect for short Mugsy.
Waiting for the next video!
Next month my guy! Just started editing it yesterday - but it's around 40~ mins long so will take awhile hahahaha...
God bless Muggsy Bogues. It just shows no matter one's background or how they look. If you got the heart and desire do whatever you want to do and let nobody say you can't.
awesome video bro keep them up
Got you my man
Great vid ol chap!

I was a Bulls fan and Muggsy could be a real problem for us! But didn't know he went through all that...
great video!!!
Great Job @Out Of Bounds
Amazing story, I've knew about Muggsy Bogues my whole life , never knew any of this tho.
Great video of Mussy Bogus...
As an NBA fan I've stumbled upon this random video. Seeing that it is 30min long I thought I would leave after 5mins. But i stayed til the end. I appreciate the effort in turning Muggsy's life into a compelling story with the usage of AI. Although some AI results were lacking, it helped with giving the audience some kind of a vision of what it would have been like.
Thank you bro! Yea still working on my story telling skills, both visually and with the script. Will always be looking to improve, who knows one day I might even be shooting on location or using 3D animation. Thanks for the support.
That was great thank you
It's hard to explain just how much of a legend he was. No one ever did it before and I don't think anyone will ever do it again.
Bogies was an inspiration and deserves all the credit in the world
First off, I thought he was a recent player bc of the thumbnail looking so clean. Looked new.
Second, man, I should've realized it was Stephen Curry when his dad was mentioned. I had to rewind a bit to hear the dad's name to realize it.
Muggsy Bogues is a NBA fan favorite of mine.
I'd like to see what he would be like if he was playing today. Hopefully someday we see another guy that tiny make the NBA
Great vid 🎉
Thank you!!
“Not hit with the shell, only the buck shot… “
You definitely have no idea how a shotgun works… 😂🤣😂🤣😂

So inspiring!!!
A supremely under-rated player, which he used as a weapon against everyone!
