What ACTUALLY Happened to Every Asian Player in NBA History?
Вставка

- There have been less than 20 Asian players that have been in the NBA throughout History. And some had successful careers of consistency, while others not so much. So let's go over the careers of every single Asian player that has seen the NBA court in their basketball career.

we don't have that problem now. today, even lebron James can be identified as an Asian, and get all the endorsement deal in china.
The NBA is a flamboyant show business after all, money(RMB) above everything else.
people arent what they simply identify as. modern society and that nonsense fuckin sucks.
Lol this genius thinks you need to be Asian to get an endorsement deal in China.
Lol how do you even get this stupid?😂😂😂
Huh how is he identified as an asian. Just because he gets deals in china doesn’t make him asian.
unfortunately it only works in America, so more like endorsement deal from China Town
Lin was good for the NBA. Just look at that game winner he shot in Toronto. The crowd cheered for an away player hitting the game winner lol. He had so many fans behind him.
yeah but he really under performed during his time in the final run with the raptors...they gave him a chance but he didn't capitalized on it.
@@NoComment-hh3rnhim, chandler and Novak were the best combination I've seen in a long while, they covered all their bases and were a threat at all distances
He's still playing in the Asian league, I think in Taiwan now.
It still baffles me how Jeremy Lin was the only top 10 player in the G league that didnt not get called up during the 2020-21 season
its not baffling at all. being good in the gleague doesnt suggest anyone would be good in the nba. lin was already in the nba before getting sent down. players who werent good in the nba but are good in the gleague wouldnt be good suddenly back in the nba again. it makes perfect sense.
Race bias, exists everywhere unfortunately
I’m Asian and to me that’s not baffling. Definitely racial bias before linsanity but at that point in his career in 2020, no one’s going to pick up a 30 something year old from the g league. That’s just not the point of the g league.
I also think it is because he's get injured a lot and it only gets more risky as you get into your 30s.
He’s Asian that why. That’s reality.
Lin's game winning shot against the Raptors is something that will forever be locked into my memory. It felt so unreal seeing an Asian guy be trusted with such an important shot and nailing it. And then seeing him getting all of the love from his team, and the fans, it hasn't been seen again.
It was the 1st time ever saw a stadium rooting for the visiting away team lol
In Houston there’s a ginormous Asian population but one of my friends, his dad, who is literally from China, who never watched the Rockets never like the Rockets instantly became a fan of the Rockets, as soon as he saw the beast from the far east yao was treated like a god in Houston
And its also why Daryl Morey was done for the second he talked about Hong Kong screwing up the rockets china bag
Yao is still a better draw for the rockets than the rockets themselves 😂
Sounds just like every self-proclaimed Jeremy Lin fan.
One dude is only Asian thru his grandfather, and others are half Asian or so, mom's r Asian...
It's called racism.
Yo starting the vid off with “Not know for their athleticism” in reference to Asians is wild af. Like you know they fucking do karate, judo and all sorts of martial arts that involve athleticism. TF. Lol
How many gold medals in the Olympics does China and Japan and South Korea get lmao
I don't know what you on about not Japan or Korea but China they like always top 3 of all and gold medals ... So more the 98% of the other countrs @@Hikinggamer23
@@Hikinggamer23 China & Japan were in the top 3 countries with gold medals at the last summer Olympics. Only the US had more (cause they spend the most $$$ on training the athletes). Then many of those US athletes go broke cause they didn't pay attention in school. How's that for stereotyping? LOL
@joystickjourneyman a little Google search is your friend before you go embarrass yourself
Those countries actually do kill it in alot of sports. Maybe not basketball and track but gymnastics, wrestling, weightlifting, figure skating etc. Genetically they are more inclined to those sports that require a lower center of gravity but they are very athletic and are technical geniuses
All in their prime, can this all-asian team make a noise?
C - Yao Ming
PF - Rui Hachimura
SF - Yuta Watanabe
SG - Jordan Clarkson
PG - Jeremy Lin
If Yao stays healthy
dope team
For sure
Bateer is missing. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mengke_Bateer
Wangzhizhi is also a great player, he is super skilled
Damn Shaq looks small sitting next to Yao
Linsanity was goated 🥵
Shame Lin was a victim of racism. With the on-set of COVID-19 and Asian hate propaganda fever, no team wanted to sign him even though he showed in the G league comeback that he was better than ever. How many point guards average over 50% FG?
victim of racism? Yao Ming was wayyyy better and made it to the hall of fame, he just wasn't that good hence why linsanity did not happen in Houston or LA@@alwaysright6358
Carmelo was hating
Great informative video mate, you got a new sub. Go Asian players!
I'm from NY, Linsanity was no joke we loved him over here. However he had the bad luck of having one of the biggest ball hogs Carmelo on his team. Carmelo thought it was his team and you could see he struggled watching Lin lead the Knicks in his absence, I think he was resentful of the excitement that Lin was generating. I really feel like if Carmelo was ok sharing the spotlight with Lin it would have been great for the Knicks and amazing for Lin's career.
Great vid man! I didn’t know a lot of these guys and I pride myself in roster knowledge. I love learning new hoop info!
Yao was a rare 7 foot plus player who actually had skills and talent most of them just bank on being tall too bad his inquiries and lack of mobility limited him
It's his toes bro, they were in bad shape ! Gotta stop wearing those small shoes. Should have wore car tire rubber for sneakers! 😂😂
It's a shame the injury bug bit yao
they literally forced him to play basketball when it was never his passion. the chinese government literally forced his parents to have him, yao mings parents were former players and extremely tall as well. theres nothing world class about china and theres nothing the world needs from there
@@nomercyinc6783 I know
i feel like china is always very unlucky , 2 greatest player injured ,first Yao ming then Yi Jianlian which predict will be successor of Yao
Imagine having expectations of being an NBA player, as being enough pressure, then add onto that the expectations of a whole country as you play & have to preform. Gotta be very very tough.
dude is struggling in the Taiwan league now lol
It’s sad to think that Jeremy Lin could’ve been a big star if the Knicks actually gave home a chance
They didnt gave him a chance, mofo Carmelo was crying like a baby that Lin taking the spotlight.
Jeremy has already become the start player when he was in nets and got 18 points in the last game before he got injured😢
I was at that Ha Sueng Jin game against the Lakers. Back then if the Trail Blazers scored 100 points they gave out free taco bell chalupa coupons to everyone. He barely played even for a bad blazers team. He made the 100 point basket and the crowd went crazy. The blazers would go on to win and at the end Rueben Patterson ripped his shirt in half Hulk Hogan style. One of my favorite blazer memories.
It might've been better to mention JC and Green a little bit later in the video knowing that filipinos are waiting for them. I love what u did with lin, but maybe you could've also waited a bit before mentioning those 2 filipino players. Just a small insight as a social media marketer. Overall, great video!
thank you!
Save the best for last?
Dope video. Can you do one on Latino players?
I truly believe Lin could still be a backup point guard in the nba League right now.
A few things with the "Asian" players:
1. When mentioning Jalen Green, I could also think of Corey Gaines and Robert Swift, both quarter Japanese with grandmother being Japanese, and if going by representing country of the partial ancestor, Kyle Anderson is in the mix.
2. Even as an Asian (quarter German-American, rest Japanese) guy myself, I'd hold of those who are mixed, and think of players that look like Yao, Yi, Linsanity, and Yuta Watanabe first. It's not that I don't consider the mixed Asian players Asian, but it's the generalization and stereotypes that comes with people that look like Yao/Yuta/Jeremy in the western media (orchestra, smart at math and good grades, unlinked to athletics, etc).
3. And there's also Middle East/India (also Asians) players in Hamed Haddadi, Satnam Singh, Sim Bhullar too. I forget that the area is also Asia.
As a fan, I just hope someone that look like Yao (or full Middle Eastern Asian player) not only gets a mix tape from high school level, but some hype to be a legit lottery pick in a near future - because it has been some time.
Brittle bones. 🦴
As for your third point:
It still boggles my mind how Americans seemingly only think “Asian” people only come from China, Japan, or Korea.
India, Russia, Middle Asia, and the Middle East are all very distinct from East Asians, and very large regions in their own; yet, Americans never consider them in any regard (not even the American government census).
It’s stupidity.
Enes Kanter isn’t even on this list.
He mentioned jalen green and Clarkson as Asian players because they have a Asian parent not Asian grandparents being a quarter Asian is very different from being half Asian
There is a difference of geographically asian and racially asian. And you know very well which one this video is referring to@@solascripturaPR1517
Jeremy Lin waving off Kobe to shoot the last shot instead of passing it to Kobe, that was legendary.
Where is Kyle Anderson who literally played for the CN national team recently
Lol Kyle Anderson's asian blood is probably wayyyy too distant to count. Gotta draw the line somewhere 😂 Otherwise who knows how many folks with great great grandparents who are part asian
Yeah how’d he get Chinese citizenship?

Kyle Anderson is part Asian too. He is part Chinese from her mother's side.
To be fair, some of those players look way more black than Asians. I think it's more fair to categorize them under black than Asian even though they are mixed.
2:15 I LOVE seeing Velottde Divac get dunked on!!
I saw that game with Shaq gettin blocked 3x.😂😂😂😂
I think part-Asian players who grew up in the US should be in a separate category. The sad truth is that what makes Asian NBA players noteworthy is because of overcoming obstacles in their basketball path related to culture and/or prejudices based on their Asian appearances. Some of the part-Asian players listed here grew up in a pre-dominantly American culture and do not look Asian at all. That's a significant difference compared to the Asian players who had to fight uphill battles against one or both of those factors to get on their HS roster, get scholarship offers, get NBA attention, get NBA mins and get some NBA team to be willing to invest time in their development. Good example of how Asian looks can hold you back in the basketball world is Jeremy Lin being the captain of his state champ HS team who upset powerhouse Mater Dei in the state finals and was named Northern California player of the year yet didn't get a single college scholarship offer. I wouldn't expect UCLA or Duke to call on him at that time but not even a mid-tier D1 school or even a D2 school?
Rui spoke broken english when he was drafted and i dont think he spent anytime in the west prior either.
Asian Americans are still highly influenced by Asian culture and their tiger parents in general. So Asian American going into NBA is still very rare because of the culture. You may say they are Americans and they act very different from people who grew up in Asian, but they also act drastically different than the black or white people grew up in America.
@@kevinhkpbecause Asian Americans value their roots more than anyone even if they're born in America ask them "What kind of Asian are you" and they know,be it a Chinese-American,Filipino-American etc. compared to whites and blacks who got lost in the boodline and even if they know most of them won't care because they're born in America.
Wang zhi zhi had a nice jumper…that was my guy on Dallas 😮💨💨
As far as China goes I hear the culture and organization of amateur/pro ball isn't conducive to producing NBA prospects. There's such a large population tho and the passion is there that if they ever found incentive to change that up we'd see a lot more of them in the league.
yep they are simply overpaying to retain them locally and stunting their growth playing without competition
chinese and other nations cultures dont mean shit in america. peoples cultures dont make them important or special
Inevitable at some point just like the Europeans

Great video but you forgot Kyle Anderson.
Does Joe Alexander count as well?
@@JSmoothP Dont think so I dont think he has asian heritage he just lived in China. Otherwise Cam Thomas should've count as well. Anderson is 1/8 Chinese and that is part of a reason why he was selected to the China national team as well

Jeremy Lin’ parents are from Taiwan. Now, he is in Taiwan playing basketball.
I’ve had the opportunity to see him when he played for the Kaohsiung Steelers..he’s now playing in Taipei with his brother..I enjoy the basketball games in Taiwan..they have some great players on both Kaohsiung and Taipei teams..I’m not a basketball expert/enthusiast..I just enjoy going to the games in Kaohsiung..it’s a great atmosphere!!💯❤️❤️😊

Jordan Clarkson, Rui H., J. Green are d TOP most active best Asian out there playing & still compete.... But still hands down to J Lin & Yao for putting Asian Basketball noticed to the world...Maybe someday Asian athletes could be d number 1 power house ranking in the world...Also don't forget Billy Ray Bates in d 80's
Funny story: I was born in Seattle in 1973, where I grew up, and still live, Japanese-American and male. I have had at least TWO people of ALL of these ethnic backgrounds, when I used to (when I was still young) "trying to be able to touch the rim" (I'm 5'10"): "You're a White man. Athletically, that is." TWO people from all of these groups, called me a "White man, athletically:" White, African-American, Asian, Latino, Native American, Middle-Eastern, and East Indian. When I tried to touch the rim (I could get the bottom of the backboard, in my prime--I can barely get net, at 51 in 2024), people of all races would say, "White men can't jump," or when I'd lay the ball in, they'd say, "The White Man's Dunk!"
Mahalo for sharing
I am from mainland China. Since Yao Ming joined the Rockets, it can be said that the Rockets are the team of all China. The red of the Rockets is always associated with the red of China.
Isn't Jalen Green technically an Asian player?? Hes the same amount of Asian as Jordan Clarkson/Jaylin Williams 😂😂
True!!

Reality: Filipino Americans are having productive careers in the NBA
This is not "Every Asian NBA player"
I can think of at least 20 Asian NBA players, not YET including Turkey which is in odd situation as they're considered both Asian and European.
Turkey is a part of the Asian continent, as per any map, atlas, or dictionary.
why you start with that line tf
I know its hard for Asian player to compete in NBA because of size, I really wish to have more Asian player in the league. I hope there will be more dominant player like now for European players someday.
They do ok in international basketball, well mainly Japan, but the others are stepping up.
It’s a shame Lin wasn’t able to recapture Linsanity. But I’m also tired of hearing Knicks fans talk like if we had kept him, we would’ve won a championship.
When it came down to it, he just wasn’t that good overall
Opportunity just met luck. Also, a lot of teams just didnt have a scouting report on him, plus probably didnt expect a guy with his careers history to be capable of it. I think a lot of teams just took his ability for granted. Definitely not a bad player, but I think it speaks more to how every NBA player is miles and miles above a regular person, and every NBA player can play good basketball. The big names are just better though.
What's crazy is the NBA is full of empty stats guys who don't contribute to wins just like Lin was not to mention Kobe couldn't get through to him and that said alot as well. I get Dwight not meshing with Kobe he was coming off being the guy carrying a franchise Lin wasn't that it made no sense for a role player to act like that.
@@Amm17ar his ability?? Dude was an OK passer and if he didn't get hot his shot selection would cost you a game Lin was a career journeyman he had numerous opportunities to better his game. How long should teams wait for a guard who isn't a floor general, doesn't make his team better, and is an absolute liability defensively?? Lin played for a decade that's longer than most Asian players will ever get.
@@Reese1882yw he was good for some instant offense off the Bench but was never really starter caliber, I would’ve loved if they could’ve kept them at the right price as a role-player, but he was getting too much from houston
@@Reese1882yw He had a better Turnover to assist ratio than Trae Young did last year lol.... So yeah he was an okay passer. His shot selection wasnt any worse or better than some guys today. He was a career 43% shooter from the field and a shot above 35% from 3 for most of his career. He averaged 10+ points for 5 years in the NBA. For context an average draft class has only 10-15 guys that average more than 10 points a game for more than 2 season in the league. He was a decent NBA player, youre completely understating the fact that he made it in the league. Im not saying he was a super star, Im not saying he was Trae Young before Trae Young, or Kyrie Irving. Im saying he was a decent NBA player for 5 years. Thats more than most players make it in the league and thats worth respecting. He made it further in life and made more money in 1 year in Houston than Ill ever see in my entire life. He did pretty damn good imo.

He plays for the Philippine National team, Jalen Green is also part Filipino and so is Nate Robinson.
JC's mother is of filipino descent, and has been representing philippines since 2018 in the asian games.
Lin was Taiwanese born in America. He can either be called from America or Taiwan, not nothing related to China
So he's either got Japanese blood from their 50 years of occupying the country, or Chinese blood from the hundreds of years they did. Let's not make identities up that don't exist, it'll start a war over nonsense.
No one said anything about 'China' the nation, it's abour the players ethnicities and racial composition.

I was married to a very pretty 5'9" Black/Cherokee/White woman, and we had a daughter in 2013. My goodness, in 2024, she's already 11! My daughter looks like a young Mariah Musselman (daughter of Coach Eric Musselman and his wife Danyelle Sargent) She has my last name, an unmistakable Japanese last name. Still, how "Asian" do most of you consider her to be? People tell her, "You're Asian, you're Japanese," she says, "I'm Asian, I'm Japanese." But, I get very firm with my daughter, making sure that she acknowledges, "You're not just Asian. You're African-American. You're Cherokee. You're White." My ex wife (who I have a great relationship with--we were just too far apart in age, as she's 17 years younger than me) wasn't into sports, but was a cheerleader. My daughter doesn't play basketball, rather she plays chess, loves to do math problems, swims, is on junior cheerleading teams, likes to play casual tennis, and likes to hit golf balls.
