when you say you make manga for a living, that means you solely live off your manga right? Like paying bills and making enough to "live" basically, or do you have to do other jobs (i.e. youtube) to suffice? Love your work btw. You are very inspirational!
Just a tid-bit... speaking to those who might feel (or find themselves) overwhelmed with frustrations in this process... Several years ago, Stephen King was talking over his career and experiences (I forget who was doing the interview)... And the subject of "getting published" came up. King explained that he didn't look at the process as "becoming a professional writer" for years. He looked at it as "becoming a rejection letter collector". Now, this might sound intimidating, but take a moment to laugh and then breathe. (never forget to breathe)... King has famously (infamously?) claimed to have wallpapered his bathroom with his rejection letters, and this is Stephen King (yeah, THAT Stephen King)... As in The Green Mile, The Shawshank Redemption, Cujo, Pet Cemetery, (the list goes on)... So... Even doing your best research, presentation, and ALL of the effort (and I know... It's a lot)... DON'T GIVE UP! You are definitely not lacking in anything just because you get a rejection. So breathe, relax, and keep on keeping on... :o)
Thank you so much for this video! I just discovered your channel and it looks really helpful! Its my ultimate dream to write manga for a living and knowing that there is someone else in America who achieved the same dream gives me a lot of hope for the future! This is very inspirational and with the help of your videos I hope to be able to reach my goal!
Aww, I want to be self-published but I suppose this will be great for those looking to be published so thanks again for uploading it! I will await your self-publish series!
OMG I'm sorry this want what you were looking for :( But please, don't worry! One of my next publishing tutorials will be on self-publishing ♡ I have a drawing tutorial and such to post first, but another publishing tutorial is coming soon! ♡
Aaaaaw!!! ♡♡♡ ; U ; ♡♡♡ Sweetie, thank you so much for feeling that way about me and my work! ♡But I'm just happy to be able to help ANYONE that happens to finds my videos ♡
This was extremely helpful, while planning out my comic I always thought my target audience would be around teenagers but I'll still research more. Sadly I still do not know what publishers I would submit my work too, thankfully this video helped me out thank you!
Yay this is finally out! This was actually really helpful. I was s lost in how to find a publisher or where to look and you gave me that information. Thank you :D
OMG so happy you enjoyed it and found it useful, dear!! :D ♡ I was so excited to share episode 1 of this series with you ♡ I hope epsode 2 of this series will be of use to you, too ♡
Thank you for the advice, but I was thinking: we can write our manga and draw out the rough sketch and then finish it on digital and post it? Is this okay because I’ve been thinking about this for a while
So far the publishers I've looked into (but am unsure if they are the right ones for my projects yet) are Image comics, Dark Horse, and Vertigo. I've only scratched the surface of looking into these companies, but it's a start for what I'm trying to look for at least. :)
This is my first time watching your videos and I want to say a big thank you for making this series!! I have watched similar videos about this topic and not one person mentioned anything about copyright. You're so awesome and you gained a new subbie!
OMG Bless you, dear!!💕💕💕 I'm so grateful for your sub, and so happy I was able to help you! I actually created a video dedicated to teaching you how to copyright and what it protects, so I hope you'll find it useful 😄💕 I'll make more publishing videos in the future too! Feel free to leave questions in the comments section, hon! +Teranie Anjenae
OMG, hon! 0///0 LOL I never stand still, dear ♡ I'm always working hard and improving and that should be your goal as well :) "catching up" means I'm remaining the same, but my work is always changing ♡ Focus on yourself and try not to compare yourself to others because no 2 artists will create art exactly the same anyway :)
+Jenny's Piano OMG it was my pleasure! ♡ I'll be posting part 2 of my "How to Get Published" series in the next week or so! I hope you'll look forward to it :)
Awesome! So glad to hear it! :D This is an important step in your career as am author, so I hope it will come in handy ♡ Looking forward to sharing the next episode of this series with you :D
I love your videos and all, it is amazingly and I understand how draw manga now, hehe. basically one thing I wish I would understand you, in CC, actually.. (I kinda deaf) but really, you help me a lot and I keep draw a lot!! it's fun to draw.. (: thanks for that.
OMG I'm so happy I was able to help you! ♡ My cousin is hearing impaired so I understand! I am working on adding subtitle options to my videos because I don't trust the CC sometimes ^__^;; I don't know if it properly quotes me 100% of the time 0__0;;

Hi i m one of your biggest fan!!!! 😊 i just have a request. Can u make a video how did u get published??? Like what was your first step and how did u really became a mangaka. Im sure it will help many young mangaka like me. They cant experience being a mangaka right now....so i hope they can learn something from your experience💙💚💛💜💓💘💝💟💕
Dear MyMangakaLife, Will you continue this how to get published series. I don't want to rush you but I really need help with publishing tips. Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to read this. : ) Sincerely, Samar
yay! im always so happy when i get a notification when you upload a video! i really liked this video but publishing my work now is too soon and even if i wanted to publish it would be almost impossible....i know im thinking negatively but you see..in my country if anyone were to be asked what is manga or if they read one the answer would be no..there is rarely anyone who knows about it and i doubt there would be any publisher for manga in here...if you could give me any advice for my future when i will be ready to publish i would be very happy but for now i will focus on getting better at drawing...but thank you for making this video anyway! :3
Don't let that stand in the way of your dreams! You can always try contacting publishers outside of your country and ask them if they would accept stories from outside of their country. If they say "yes", get your work copy written in their country and then submit your story ♡ Or, you can wait until you're older and move to a country where Manga is known ♡ You can be that person who brings Manga to your country! Anything is possible, but you need to work hard for it ♡
Thank you so much for this!! Will you be talking about western manga publishers in future videos? I live in the UK and have done webcomic series, but would really love to get my work published and have no idea where to begin. Thank you so much for your amazing vids!!! ♥
Absolutely, dear ♡ There will be a publishing video dedicated to submitting Manga to publishers in Western countries because nowadays there are tons of publishers for ppl who live in the UK and America ♡ I hope you'll subscribe (if you haven't already) and will look forward to those videos :D
regarding about submitting a manga style piece to D.C, I agree because at one point they had a manga line called CMX . And they shut it down due to the fact that it wasn't making money plus among other reasons.
LOL They were simply trying to jump on that Manga gravy train XD Back in the early 2000's Manga made up more that 60% of the graphic novel market. DC was trying to catch up but they were producing some seriously cheap, embarrassing, superficial manga; They had NO CLUE why Manga was so popular and how different the story telling style was compared to their comics. They didn't stand a CHANCE!! LOL
+My Mangaka LIFE I completely agree with you about them jumping on the bandwagon, they had no idea what they were doing. And you are correct about them producing some seriously cheap, embarrassing superficial stuff. They should have taken their time and did their research more, instead of trying to catch up with everyone else. I mean they could have had the potential of having a really good line,(for example Tenjo tenge and Shirley) if they just used their heads, instead of shutting down operations early as they did. but anyway that was just my opinion on the subject which shouldn't really count anyway since I'm not really that much of an avid reader of their work except for Sandman, Hellblazer, and Lucifer and the two manga that I mentioned.^^u
Hello. I love the way you draw manga. I love manga style but I always want to be better drawing manga. Please can you do some tutorials about how to draw better manga; tips. Please help me.😵
Great video! It was extremley helpful information! I am trying to get a picture book published. I was wondering, Can you mention publishing agents in the next video? Are they necessary in getting published or do you not need one? Hope you can touch on it thanks!
Hello dear! ♡ I'll certainly be creating a video on the submission process for picture books, photo books etc. in one of my next episodes of this series ♡ And to answer your question, you don't necessarily need an agent when you're simply publishing a book, but one may be necessary if you're a story book illustrator and you need someone to find work for you and negotiate your pay ♡ I'll talk more about this in a future video :) But please subscribe (if you haven't already) so you won't miss my video on how to submit your picture book to publishers ♡
senpai thank you you are just helping us to reach our dreams (TwT)*love you love you*💘 and I'm exciting to watch your self publishing series *fighting* *^* (and sorry for my poor English because I'm not American) xD💔
OMG No, your English is perfect! ♡♡♡ And my goodness, I'm soooo happy and honored by your kind words and just knowing that you appreciate that I work hard to help you all!! It means soooo much to me!! ((HUGS))
You asked if you needed a publisher to print a doujinshi, correct?😄 Doujinshi can NOT be printed through a publisher because the term "doujinshi" refers to a title that is self-published💖☺ Once you've self-published a manga, it is refered to as a "doujinshi" 👍
I am not EXTREMELY great at anime art, but I take it seriously. If it's kind of cartoony and anime at the same time, I'm not sure if I will have a good kind of book for publishing companies like YenPress, ect. Regular manga publishing companies. Please reply to help me, thanks :)
There are countless styles of manga out there so don't doubt yourself!♡ Just keep with it and maybe one day you'll feel ready to submit to a publisher!
When we send a project, should we send it to more than one publisher? And if the answer is yes, what do we say to the other publishers we decided to reject?(in case more than one accepted) Thanks again for your amazing videos^^
That's a great question! This will certainly be answered in the next installment of this series (I'd wrote it but I'm afraid of being too wordy ^__^;; ) I hope you will look forward to watching the next episode of my publishing series ♡
Hi.. Its me again :) I have 2 questions.. 1.Does it really matter how we hold the pencil when we're drawing.. 2. How do we hold pen/fine_liner when we're inking it (I'm having trouble getting a stable line :(
Hmmm that's a good question! For me, holding a pencil "properly" changes dependsing on the type of line you want to achieve :) Holding a pencil close to the point achieves a thicker, harder line, while holding a pencil towards the center allows to losser, sketchy, light lines (great for nude model classes). If you're finding your lines are too hard, scraping deep lines in your paper (lines that scar your paper when you erase a line), try holding the pencil at a point closer to the center of the pencil. And about holding a fine multiliner, I hold it about 1.5 inches away from the point, so that I can achieve a controlled line without applying too much pressure to the point (which would damage it). These pens can be easily damaged if you apply too much pressure, so handle them with care :) I hope this helps! ♡
I have been thinking a lot about making a manga but then after getting an offer around webnovel I though. what if I started by doing a lightnovel. and later I do a manga adaptation of this? what do you guys think it could be better? just straight out make a manga or do what I was thinking here?
That's something you'd need to ask the publisher. Each one has their own rules and guidelines when submitting stories. Also, keep in mind that publishing in other countries brings with it their own set of copyright challenges, so I would recommend speaking to a professional to learn your rights. +MagnusSpikes
Absolutely, dear! ♡ Thank you so much for the video request :) A video on "How to Draw Fabric/Clothing" has been in production and is coming soon! :D So please be sure to look out for it ^ U ^
Your videos are very helpful!! I submitted a story to a publisher, but just the scripted version; when I didn't hear from them, I decided to draw it out myself...I'm working on it now. My work wasn't copyrighted when I submitted...I know now that was probably a mistake. I'm kind of afraid they may have stolen my idea...is that possible? I haven't seen anything remotely related to my story I just get paranoid when I think about it. What route did you go? Btw, I plan on purchasing your Manga soon...looks very interesting :). Sorry for the long comment.
OMG THANK YOU! ♡♡♡ I'm definitely going to review it, dear! :D Thank you so much for your interest ♡ In fact, I receive two really beautiful art books that I just KNOW you guys will LOVE!! ♡♡♡ Please look out for those! I'll be posting them soon ^///^
how many times does it take you the first time before being published (sorry if my english is bad i am from quebec and i speak french, and thank you for all your video they are very helpful :)
Um, I have a big question. Before I even submit my work as a self publishers, what happens if I already shown my previews work online like on Facebook, Twitter or other websites? Is that allow or is it rejected because my work is online. Publicly shown.
not at all :) That could actually work in your benefit if it has a large following online; they'll see that your work is popular and will more than likely sell more books ;D
Thank you so much!!! That's answer gave me huge booster!!! I wonder...how much popularly is needed for the company that publish books would want to publish my book. Probably a lot... I can't even get up to...100 fans yet...
Wait!!!! Hunger games got published by schoolastic why did she do that?! That's why it's at my school why didn't she get rejected hunger games isn't really for kids
If I'm bot mistaken, "Hunger Games" is still for teens (though the book is kind of hard core LOL) but I'm orettybsure Scholastic wouldn't publish a pornographic novel meant for adults XD
Absolutely! ♡ There are many authors out there who've made it big by first being self published, earning a really big following, and then used that as a selling point to publishers :) I hope my self-publishing videos will be helpful on your journey! Work hard and have fun ♡
In the world of books, there's no such thing as "aiming towards everyone" (publishers need to know exactly who they're marketing towards). One of the first rules is understanding your audience/demographic; this goes for everything from cook books to children's books. And now that you're saying that it's very violent...it most certainly can NOT be suitable for "everyone" (automaticslly, you've cut out ppl under 15 years of age). Take some time to understand who your story actually appeals to, okay? Good luck :)
That's not "online publishing", dear~ That's simply submitting your work to be considered for publishing (versus mailing in your submission) I hope this cleared things up for you ^__^ +Ab 12
My Mangaka LIFE ...Thanks u very much...you're so polite...😊😊 but is it okay to send to give it a shot?? I mean I ask them some questions on FAQ...but they didn't reply at all...probably 8 months ago...thanks again...waiting for more videos...😊😊
OMG ♡♡♡ Thank you sooo MUCH for enjoying my video!! It means so much to me and I hope that the next installments of my "How to Get Published" videos will be of use to you ♡

OMG No, your English is perfect! ♡♡♡ And my goodness, I'm soooo happy and honored by your kind words and just knowing that you appreciate that I work hard to help you all!! It means soooo much to me!! ((HUGS))
Can you make a video on how to improve coloring skills using color pencils to color manga?Thank you I also appreciate you and your videos so much.
OMG sure, sweetie! Thank you for the suggestion! A few other ppl have also suggested a color pencil tutorial, so I'll be sure to make one very soon ♡
Thank you so much
Hey mama mushroom! I got a question!
Do you need a publisher for making a doujin?
Great question! Doujinshi are by nature a self-published book ☺ Tankouban are serialized manga printed and sold by publishers🌈💖
@@MyMangakaLIFE wait, so you don't need a publisher?
You asked if you needed a publisher to print a doujinshi, correct?😄 Doujinshi can NOT be printed through a publisher because the term "doujinshi" refers to a title that is self-published💖☺ Once you've self-published a manga, it is refered to as a "doujinshi" 👍
Oh LOL
Thank you for helping me!!
Such a very helpful video..thanks for this I know u already got this kind of response but still ..👏👏
Hi.. Its me again :)
I have 2 questions..
These pens can be easily damaged if you apply too much pressure, so handle them with care :)
I hope this helps! ♡
Ohh thx!!!!............
never thought you would reply again..
:) I'm so happy thx for the help!
OMG WHY?!! ; A ; I always do my best to respond to all of your comments ^__^ ♡
My graphic novel series Cursed Blade is aimed towards teens and up
I have been thinking a lot about making a manga but then after getting an offer around webnovel I though.
what if I started by doing a lightnovel.
and later I do a manga adaptation of this?
what do you guys think it could be better?
just straight out make a manga or do what I was thinking here?
thanks for the awesome video ^^
I wanna ask you, is it possible to get published from a different country from the publisher I'm applying for?
That's something you'd need to ask the publisher. Each one has their own rules and guidelines when submitting stories. Also, keep in mind that publishing in other countries brings with it their own set of copyright challenges, so I would recommend speaking to a professional to learn your rights.
+MagnusSpikes
can make a video about how to draw clothes for characters and how to keep it looking new
Absolutely, dear!
Samantha thrower did you make your manga?
could you plz do a review on your new artbook that you got for christmas
OMG THANK YOU! ♡♡♡ I'm definitely going to review it, dear! :D Thank you so much for your interest ♡ In fact, I receive two really beautiful art books that I just KNOW you guys will LOVE!! ♡♡♡ Please look out for those! I'll be posting them soon ^///^
how many times does it take you the first time before being published (sorry if my english is bad i am from quebec and i speak french, and thank you for all your video they are very helpful :)
There is no such thing as a number of times before you are accepted by a publisher. As I said in this video, just keep trying and don't give up ♡
Um, I have a big question.
I can't even get up to...100 fans yet...
your amazing and i try because of you i hope I'm as good as you one day💖
Is it okay if I increase my drawing skills before I make it I don't want it to be filled with bad drawing and I spent hard work on it
Wait!!!! Hunger games got published by schoolastic why did she do that?! That's why it's at my school why didn't she get rejected hunger games isn't really for kids
If I'm bot mistaken, "Hunger Games" is still for teens (though the book is kind of hard core LOL) but I'm orettybsure Scholastic wouldn't publish a pornographic novel meant for adults XD
you've taught me soooooooo much...arigato.. ~^^~
I plan on self publishing a few short story's before actually trying to traditional publish. Is this a good way to increase my chances?
Absolutely! ♡ There are many authors out there who've made it big by first being self published, earning a really big following, and then used that as a selling point to publishers :) I hope my self-publishing videos will be helpful on your journey! Work hard and have fun ♡
Thanks for this video, Liz. :)
Aaaaaw ♡♡♡ it was my pleasure, sweetie! Can't wait to share the next episode of this series with you ^ U ^
I'll be looking forward for it. :) By the way, Liz. I really liked your art in your manga "Sacred"
I have a book am makeing and am aiming it towards everyone but it might be too strong violence to aim towards everyone.
+My Mangaka LIFE I might take down the violence alot so I can have it aimed towards younger people
+My Mangaka LIFE and thxs for saying good luck
What do u think of Online Publishing?? i.e. Dark Horse provides online story submission opportunities.
That's not "online publishing", dear~ That's simply submitting your work to be considered for publishing (versus mailing in your submission) I hope this cleared things up for you ^__^
+Ab 12
My Mangaka LIFE ...Thanks u very much...you're so polite...😊😊 but is it okay to send to give it a shot?? I mean I ask them some questions on FAQ...but they didn't reply at all...probably 8 months ago...thanks again...waiting for more videos...😊😊

hello I am a Filipino story writer and its been my lifelong dream to live in Japan and have my own manga published but the problem is that I am terrible at drawing. Where can I hire manga artists that would draw my story? and how much would I pay to the artists? please respond thank you
Slow and steady ALWAYS wins the race. ^_^
Absolutely! Gadda make a game plan and figure out your next steps rather than just jumping right into it! That's how mistakes are made!
+My Mangaka LIFE Yuppers.
Thx so much when i publish ill make sure to shout you out thx thx thx😁
Hi there :)...I was looking for the video about how to self publish your work...is it still in the making? Thanks and I love your channel
+Samantha “Manti” Thrower Hello dear! Yes, that video is still in the making but will be filled with LOTS of useful information! :D I try to rotate between one drawing tutorial, one publishing tutorial, one skit, one review etc. etc. but please rest assured that the self publishing tutorial is coming and when it does, it will be a 2-3 part series with LOOOOTS of info XD Also, there will be additional videos on how to promote your work and how to make booths at conventions
My Mangaka LIFE awesome!! Thanks so much for getting back to me :)...I'll be on the lookout for it...enjoy the rest of your weekend.
Is there a way to get published without dealing with online payment? Like the more traditional way before Internet? I don't feel comfortable with online money dealings lol
If you're published by an actual company they will deal with the payments, so don't worry :)
+Tiffany Kampersal

I am the cofounder of a growing company called J.U. Comics. We offer design and editing services to publishers and authors ♡ My company also publishes my Manga and distributes it to stores worldwide. +Ember Blodwedd
+My Mangaka LIFE wow!! Thanks! Did you make the company with a friend or someone else?
Thank you! :)
OMG my pleasure to help you, sweetie ♡
COOL
thank youuuuu💖💖💖💖
OMG I'm so happy I was able to help you, sweetie ♡♡♡
How old do you have to be to get a book published?
Age isn't a factor. It's your ability to keep schedules, and your ability to create a quality title that's important.
Thank you :3
I'm in 8th grade and love to draw original characters, and your channel inspired me to make a manga. Love your art
Thank you😃😅😆😥😃
OMG You're very welcome, dear! ♡
and never mind, I see it now. blame my friend xD
You know publishers contact please replay me!!
