    I was on cloud nine for this concert. I guess the audience liked it too ;-) you can spot me top right during the initial bow, behind the bearded bassoonist. playing trumpet there but beside myself to be backing my tenor hero...yes, i was tenor then too. of course, Joan was fabulous and I got to play wth her many times. Just this concert and 3 La Bohemes for big Lucy. what a season!

      On a sadder note, Pavarotti's encore was Una furtiva lagrima. One of my own "party pieces too, but more importantly, this recording was played at the funeral of the bassoonist who is playing the opening." John Noble was a terrible loss to us when his light plane crashed. RIP.

      Lucky you! I got to see them both in "Luisa Miller" at the San Francisco Opera some 50 years ago. God and Goddess to me.

      She absolutely delivered in this aria and the whole evening. I had this concert on VHS pretty much just after it came out. I think I wore it out! I’m so glad to find it here on UA-cam. It is such a wonderful concert. Everybody was on fire that night. Oh to have been there. Thanks for posting it.

    he would be taller than her, but her hair is about a foot tall, but man they sounded grand together, he always gave her full credit for teaching him to breathe.

    • @liedersanger1
      @liedersanger1 9 днів тому

      Bonynge said that claim was exaggerated. And in any case Pavarotti never made it. He said he did study how she breathed on their Australian tour in 1965. He was already singing call an emerging star, so he certainly knew how to breathe!

      @@liedersanger1 I heard him say more than once, that she taught me to breath. he said he would get tired and that she could sing for much longer with no tiredness, be that as it may , I think Boynge, (Ricky) was bitter than Pavarotti became bigger than Joan.

      @@liedersanger1 I have heard him recorded saying she taught me to breath, and giving her all the credit, he gave credit where credit was due. his second wife used to be angry because he never never held a grudge when someone wronged him, I try to be like that. but im not. a great man in so many ways.

    Disculpen la curiosidad (y a la vez, quizá, mi ignorancia), pero ¿Joan Sutherland y Luciano Pavarotti no están usando micrófonos o es solo la acústica del local?

    • @soundslikeblue
      @soundslikeblue 20 годин тому +1

      Las salas de ópera clásicas se construyeron para que el sonido de la voz y los instrumentos se escuchara en todas partes, porque en aquella época no existía ninguna amplificación artificial.
      Por este motivo, los cantantes líricos y de ópera han desarrollado técnicas vocales que optimizan la proyección del sonido utilizando únicamente la resonancia de su propio cuerpo y voz.
      En definitiva: lo normal en la ópera o en el canto lírico, en general, es No utilizar micrófonos, ya que la mezcla del sonido de la voz con el de la orquesta es más orgánica y la calidad del sonido es mucho mayor y más natural.
      Los micrófonos sólo se utilizan en conciertos donde, o bien el espacio no reúne las condiciones acústicas ideales (por ejemplo, es demasiado grande o está al aire libre), o cuando los vocalistas no tienen una técnica vocal suficientemente desarrollada para el tipo de repertorio que pretenden interpretar.
      Salud!
