  • This is a recording of a satellite session of the ISEV2021 annual meeting, a joint effort of the International Society for Extracellular Vesicles (ISEV) and the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research (MJFF). The session was organized by Samantha Hutten and Luis Oliveira of MJFF and Kenneth Witwer (Johns Hopkins University/ISEV). Moderators were Kendall Van Keuren-Jensen, Randy Schekman, and Andrew Hill. The session addressed the use of L1CAM affinity reagents for pulling down neuronal extracellular vesicles (EVs) as a biomarker platform. A range of opinions and supporting data were presented. Although consensus was not reached on all points, there was broad agreement that antibody clones/epitopes are important; that reproducible biomarker results can be useful regardless of our understanding of exactly what EVs or other particles are obtained; and that additional or alternative markers may be useful for neuronal EV studies.
