Funny, I was working on fixing some table errors last night and ran across another video about graphics settings. He had the game set to frame pacing so I tried it out. What remarkable difference! Made some laggy tables work flawlessly! Somehow I missed this video when you put it out 10 months ago. Now I'm subscribed and wont miss the next great tip you have! Thanks!
Thanks so much as always for your great videos. This is a great tip and infomation for VPinball. Family had complained about the flipper didn't flip when I push the button. This is cleared up now with just this 1 change. But going over the guide from Dan to check into the other changes. Running 4K 120Hz for a year now and love it but this just fine tunes it more. Thanks man.
10.8 is really amazing. Im running all my tables through the 64 bit 10.8 version and everything is working fine, puppacks and my color dmds. The 10.8 tables are beautiful and the menu system to adjust the tables is perfect. The baller installer makes this so easy. It's like Christmas everyday for pinball fans.
Thanks for sharing the information. Kudo to the VPW team for the continuous improvement in virtual pinball. I have been running both 10.8 64 bits along with 10.7.4 and currently using Alternate Launcher to for the use of 10.8 64 bit. I find myself almost forcing an Alt Launcher on everything now due to the Frame Pacing and POV adjustment. I will probably upgrade to the lates 10.8 this week and use it for default. 10.7 being the Alternative Launcher now. 10.8 64-bit is at the point of being my day to day driver now! 😝
Frame pacing is a great improvement, but there are some weird issues overall in 10.8 Beta 5. 1. Ball trails can get pretty wacky, but I keep motion blur on to reduce/eliminate ball stutter. So I set the ball tail to 0 for every table. 2. Window mode POV is great to dial in a more 3D perspective (especially awesome for Reshade anaglyph) except on some tables it causes the playfield to get really blurry.
Full disclosure here - I haven't watched the video yet but will do in moments. I just want to mention that I don't see any flipper lag on my stock Legends Pinball. I'm an old guy and I can tell you that when I was a kid in the early 70s, I remember playing on 50s and 60s tables that had way more flipper lag than my Legends machine.
Amen brother! When I play the Legends Pinball natively (like just the built-in tables), it's terrific. I don't notice any perceptible lag. But when I played VPX tables via OTG connection, that's when the issues occur. But since I upgraded to VPX 10.8, and started using Frame Pacing (which I talk about and show in the video) I don't notice any. It's amazing.
This indeed reduced the input latency as stated. However, I did not have "Force Exclusive Fullscreen" selected at first, and the flipper lag remained . After enabling "Force Exclusive Fullscreen", in the Video/Graphics menu, the flipper lag went away. Thanks for tip! Gonna stick with 10.7.3 with 10.8 gl for VR for now though. I'm terrible at updating, watched the 64 bit install video and it had so many steps i said hell no. 😁 i'll wait a bit. Have you tried in VR yet Ed? Talk about game changer, i can't go back to cabinet. Although streaming gameplay in VR would look terrible.
@@shaynejudkins1605 Quest 3 should work i believe with link cable ($80usd) or air link using Steam VR to connect to VPX. Right now i'm using WMR headset, but i have pre-ordered a Quest 3. Should be a huge jump.
oooo this might get me back into OTG. The only machine i have spare for pinball usually is the steam deck and latency is a fun killer on that. sometime seems fine, most of the time not. Could you do a video on the update process? do the tables just work or is there extra stuff needed than updating vpx? (and is it simple for pinup popper users? ) sry lots of questions
I'm sorry Buzza, I can't answer all your questions. I've never used Pinup Popper. As far as a video on the update process, it already exists, I just followed these two videos here to update my VPX: (I followed every step - make sure you back up all your stuff first) Update Tutorial for 64-bit: ua-cam.com/video/zc_6cr4Fo8k/v-deo.html Update Tutorial for 10.8 here: ua-cam.com/video/BhMY24oFlQk/v-deo.html
Thanks DV, PinStratsDan put me on to this in one of he's videos. I don't normally like using beta vpx but made an exception in this case so i can use the frame pacing. BTW have you upgraded to 64 bit, if so how/which guide did you use? I'm still on x86.
I just tried this out, my vpx 10.8 has frame pacing enabled and the best i get as far as latency is about 4ms. I have an ALP just like you as you know. What am i doing wrong?
That's the awesome new Godzilla table from the V-Pin Workshop (VPW). It's a 10.8 table. You can download it here: vpuniverse.com/files/file/15933-godzilla-sega-1998-vpw/
I'm on VPX 10.7 (installed through Baller Installer). Do I upgrade to 64bit first and then 10.8 or do I do the 10.8 update first? I've been holding off (read super scared) but I've backed up recently and am ready to go.
I updated to 64-bit first. And yeah, you MUST back everything up first, that's very important. Hi Derek! Honestly, I haven't even messed with that yet. I've just been playing the true 10.8 tables in 10.8. There have been SO many new tables coming out, and videos I've been doing I haven't tried others yet. But I will.
Great video ill have to check out Dans faq. I switched to an LGC2 120hz for better latency on a 3070ti, from my understanding 60hz is roughly 15-20ms and 120hz is around 8ms. I cannot get frame pacing to play nice especially when flashers are going off with my setup. Some of the VPW tables allow you to turn off flashers in settings but i still get ball stutter. Ive tried numerous settings and just cant get it right. Playing at 60hz would give me more power out of system but shouldn't the 120hz be even better latency in frame pacing? Idk this stuff is way over my head. For now I'll stick with vsync and current settings, F11 shows 3ms solid at 120hz and ball stutter is very rare, it also feels very responsive so ill stick with current setting for now......always tweaking lol
Le frame pacing ne règle pas tous les soucis de freeze ou lag. Cette option (frame pacing) est déjà configuré par défaut. Donc votre vidéo n’a pas trop d’intérêt

Agreed 100% Mr. Livewire! We're living through a Paradigm Shift for virtual pinball.
Thanks for sharing Ed!
Hi Al!! Thanks for watching, bud!
This should become the default setting. Thanks for the info.
Yeah, I can't imagine why that's not the case.

Assigning buttons in VPX preferences (instead of using a third application) will also reduce lag on flippers.

Thanks for the tip, great content as always, could you show us the download process of virtual pinballs on pc and how to play them through ALP? Thanks
any idea why my arcade panel no longer is read by my PC... the ALP still is read but not the track ball etc...
I'm sorry I don't know. I don' t have the arcade panel.

There have been SO many new tables coming out, and videos I've been doing I haven't tried others yet.

I haven't run into any problems running non 10.8 tables. Puppacks and color dmds are working fine too. I'm using the 64 bit version of 10.8.
Is that latency display built into 10.8 or is that a separate app?
@Kwistenbiebel200 So it's built into 10.8? Neat. I am not a fan of betas so I've been holding out.

Same set up, c2 3070ti and agree. Frame pacing leads to lots of ball stuttering. Vsyc for me
Does this make a difference on an unmodded ALP using OTG? I have heard the input lag is built into the system.
