"There's worse crimes on earth than loyalty."
Quite right Mrs. Byrd, quite right.
I love how Mrs. Bird responded with such grace & patience towards Daisy. She even suspected Daisy was up to something & still ultimately handled the situation with tenderness. Such a contrast to Mrs. Patmore! Mrs. Bird later uses her own money to feed struggling soldiers. Mrs. Patmore tries to catch her out then, too, but learns Mrs. Bird is doing something good instead. At least Mrs. Patmore redeems herself by joining her efforts. Would've liked to have seen more of Mrs. Bird. Such a lovely character!
I thought she was lovely as well until she was nasty towards Ethel
I really liked Mrs Bird which is why I was so surprised that she was so uncaring towards Ethel
That's true! I had forgotten how she behaved towards Ethel. I think her response to that situation probably had more to do with how she viewed Ethel's behavior. Daisy was acting out of loyalty to Mrs. Patmore. The soldiers had served their king & country & been injured, which caused their need. But Ethel had chosen the affair that resulted in the child she couldn't care for, which in turn resulted in her turning to prostitution to survive. Mrs. Bird was responding to the moral standards of the era that were broken by Ethel's choice.
@@cindykaye3152 Well….let’s not forget it took two people to make that child, the other of whom was a soldier who gave his life for king and country.
@@davidthaler7018 I can't tell if you are serious or not. What does that have to do with how Mrs. Bird viewed the situation? She wouldn't have cared who fathered the child, only that Ethel was not married to the father prior to conception, and that Ethel chose prostitution to provide for him. Women were held to a stricter moral standard than men then. Fair or not, that's the way it was.
Mrs Patmore really shouldn't have suggested this in the first place! 😂But Daisy's loyalty is touching, & Mrs Byrd was a very good sport 😊
Daisy a simple soul. Mrs Patmore is somewhat of a basket case but they’re both lovely people and hilarious
I love everyone laugh when Daisy said what she plan to do with the beef stew.XD
This is the very best instance of cry acting in anything ever. Poor Daisy. You just instantly wanna hug her.
IT IS!!!!!!!!
I’ve always wondered why Daisy didn’t just put extra salt in the food, but she is known for extremes
Mrs Bird was such an amazing character. Caring, firm, understanding, and sharp as a tac. She was one of my favorites, she will be missed.
Daisy and Mrs. Patmore's bond is one of the purest in the show!...It gets only more strong as the series progresses...I love these 2!
Mrs. Bird could have been harsh to Daisy but instead was kind and forgiving. Lovely way to handle it.
"At least we'd have all been regular." Baaahahahaha
Mrs Bird handled that very well.
😅 One of my favourite scenes of this wonderful show... I dearly loved many of the downstairs people such as Daisy, Mrs Patmore, Mrs Hughes, Mr Carson, Anna, Mr Bates - much more than most of the upstairs ones.
Me too.
The funniest scene was Mrs. Pattimore’s Bed and Breakfast was suddenly known as “a house of ill repute.”
All the characters were interesting n played beautifully by the actors. No need to make it upstairs vs downstairs.
It made my heart skip a little the Crawley's did things like this for their staff. Paying for Mrs. Patmore's surgery, lying to the cops for Thomas, fighting to get Mr. Bates out of prision, becoming family with Tom Branson.... it gave me some hope for humanity.
The help was part of their family.
Thankfully, they were decent to their staff. One of my favorite scenes is when Cora tells Mrs. Hughes that if she is ill the Crawleys will take care of her for as long as is needed.
@@sheilaburns8977that scene made me cry 😭 I love it to pieces
I was amazed that Daisy wasn't fired. Her actions on several occasions warranted her being dismissed.
Everyone s actions warranted dismissing. O Brien killed their unborn baby , kicked a man s cane from under him , wrote to vera . Never in danger
@@marionarda2790 Except most of those things were kept a secret from the upstairs family, BUT, Lord Gratham did lie to the cops and use Jesus as a guilt trip to protect Thomas from getting arrested for being gay and Lady Gratham covered up a dead body found with her naked daughter, so, who the h*** knows what they'd do at this point. 😅
@@theconfusedvampire grantham saw o brien kick Bates cane . Everyone did . But yes he was VERY open minded about Thomas. Way too much for the time period . He should have been like carson and thought Thomas was a revolting foul twisted thing
@@theconfusedvampire *Grantham*
@@theconfusedvampire why did you sensor hell lmao
I was so happy that Mrs Patmore's cataract was cured! I liked her very much and was so sympatising with her, it would be absolutely disastrous if she lost her eyesight. She's great character
I wasn't so sure about her at first because she was so harsh with Daisy in the beginning but as the series went on I grew to love her very much~
Natura...well the writers couldn't have written her out, as she is such a vital part of the show.
"Well at least we all have been regular."
Gween poking fun at the situation, it's absolutely me!
What a line: well at least we'd all been regular.
Thomas though! He kills it everytime. 😹😻
Huh, I never noticed that Mrs Patmore/Kitchen staff ate seperate, wish we'd seen some of those scenes
Oooh, Daisy is the sweetest…. ❤️
This is one of my favorite episodes, how poor Daisy is quivering and afraid of Mrs Bird...of course loyalty is to be admired; at least the food didn't go upstairs...
Robert sat with her to put her at ease. So he would not be looming over her.
so well acted. daisy crying and ms hughes getting angry. mrs bird as well
Daisy Puts Soap in the Soup and the small quartet which was present aptly played "I'm forever blowing bubbles" 😂
Well, at least we would’ve all been regular 💁♀️💅🏻✨
This is exactly why Robert’s longtime service staff are so loyal to him - he doesn’t immediately fly off the handle or sack them the moment they make a mistake but instead tries to rectify the problem & make life easier for them until they get back on their feet. Truly an example of what it is to care for the people who do their best to look after you.
There are moments in this series that really hit you.
When Daisy started to cry, it was heartbreaking all the emotions across her face.
Poor Mrs.Patmore afraid this is the end of her career.
You would be to for a woman of her age and time period and position. Being a domestic servant was a lifelong commitment. Until you've become surplus to requirement. Mrs. Patmore didn't really realize the family wanted her to stay. Finding a new maid is easy, replacing your cook not so much. Especially for an estate such as Downton Abbey, with a reputation for having the Best of the Best.
@@m.layfette6249 Especially considering how sad the loss of sight would be. If you could cure a blind person, wouldn't you? The family didn't seem concerned about the cost of the surgery.
Her life savings was invested in Bed and Breakfast and was suddenly known as “a house of ill repute.”
@@nicklubrino2606 And once again, the family steps Up to support Mrs. Patmore in her hour of need. I admire how Lord Grantham puts his foot down when Carson objects to the idea of the family having tea at the B&B.
Poor Daisy
Does anyone notice that Gwen (Rose Leslie) is trying to keep a straight face during the last scene.
Poor little daisy , bless her heart, 💘
Daisy is my absolute favorite 🤣
3:43 The others at the table are sitting uncomfortably with their heads down, especially Rose Leslie who had the same pose seasons later when she returned and dined upstairs. Actors who aren't the focus of attention in a scene are supposed to maintain stillness so as not to be distracting from the main action. I love the fact that in this scene, it also contributes and demonstrates the rigid rules they were all under not to be impolite and to avoid any unpleasantness at almost all costs. When the other cook bangs the table, Bates winces not just from the noise but also his expression shows a dismay that such...emotion is being demonstrated and was sadly necessary.
I was surprised that everyone forgave Daisy. One can gave stomach ache for weeks by consume food absurbing with soap.
They all took one bite or less.
Can we please have NO MORE SCENES of Daisy crying, because my heart can't take it 💔😭
I love little Daisy!
Lord and Lady Grantham are great employers!
Lesly Nicol is brilliant. That was actually her idea to look around dazed and confused as she walks into the library, because she figured in her 20 plus years of working there, she'd never been there before. That wasnt stage direction, that was 100% her.
Daisy (Sophie McShera) is the best actor on the show
Michelle Dockery
Seen this kind of relationship before, surely. Mrs Bridges and Ruby?
I had to look for syrup of figs because I didn't find fig flavour to be that awful on beef.
But when the result of a laxative appeard it came to me hahaha
🤣🤣🤣🤣 ...poor Daisy.
See a cat, toss it in the soup. Someone loses an arm, toss it in the soup. A kid dies, toss him in the soup.
Frank Reynolds
This is one of the best scene I liked!
Oh, and the problem with cataract was acknolwedged (this was not the case in previous decades) so people were allowed treatment so they coud earn a living.
Mrs Patmore gives the worst advise.
I love PATMORE!
My view of Mrs. Patmore has changed. Any professional sabotaging food is evil and should be fired, whatever the violin story
Honestly everyone should have been fired at one point
One of many times Daisy was being stupid.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 why do I find this so funny 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Beef Stew with fig syrup... i wonder what that would have tasted like.. i mean roasted figs with bacon is a thing so this might have worked out not totally awful.. hmm..
It still probably would have given them the runs, though.
@@harringt100 You think? Mhm you are probably right. But still curiosity killed the cat. 🐈⬛ 💀
Too bad Mrs Bird got fired after all because of her loyalty
She left because she couldn’t work under the same roof as an ex-prostitute.
She didn’t fired. She quit rather than be around Ethel.
She quit
☺️💚💙
Dunno what mrs. patmore was thinking. Daisy is sweet but dopey as hell
Off topic but how are they surviving on just soup and bread? 🤔
Daisy is so annoying
If this was an accurate depiction of the time. All the kitchen staff involed would be dancing at the ends of ropes while the rest were forced to watch within the hour.
