    In this scene Cora is not the lady of the house she's a proud mother, and that's beautiful

    • @tobynsaunders
      @tobynsaunders 2 роки тому +15

      She was also a dim-witted mother in this case. I mean, she was speaking at a relatively normal volume within earshot while standing in full view while "hiding" behind a translucent piece of glass, and then assuming that her daughter was too stupid to seeing standing there having a conversation with Carson and then walking down the hallway. Cora was going to lie about being surprised, and so are we to assume that Sybil was going to lie about not seeing her mother?

    Cora's reaction to seeing her noble-born daughter choosing to act for herself and interact with the Help in performing the simple task (which is a WAR ZONE of a task to someone who's never lifted a finger to dress themselves) of baking a cake, for HER her mother, is one of the wholesome, endearing moments that madebthis show so great!!!

      Reminds me of one of my favorite quotes from A Place Beyond Courage by Elizabeth Chadwick: “Knowing how to knead dough or fashion pastry might not be essential to her education, but her mother let her do it, reasoning that a wife who had a broad knowledge of what went on in the domestic quarters would be better qualified to run a household than one who shut herself away in the bower and learned little but stitchery.”

      In the American novel Little Women the mther character tells her daughters that it was very helpful for her to learn the basics of the kitchen. When she was rich she could run better the husehold, and when she was poor she could do things by herself. Maybe Cora read the book and was inspired by it

Ive watched it end to end at least three or four times. I think its one of the best shows ever on tv. Im no expert or critic but the writing was top notch. The depth of each character, the character development over the years, so good. My wish is another season. I doubt it will happen but i can hope. I am in new york. Last year i went to a downton abby trivia night. First prize was tickets to a Giants game which i wanted really bad. Well, i didnt win but i got third out of a whole room of people. I even surprised myself. Happy Holidays everyone. Stay safe. Peace to all!!
