i think its because its not taught in schools that much anymore. i remember reading the odyssey in Jr. High but when talking to others my age and younger they dont know about it
@@flyingstormboyz3479definitely. I feel more so maybe here in America, big city type areas that schools kind of stray away from classical literature in comparison to the past
@@flyingstormboyz3479I’m 21 (as of last month, was shown the musical by a friend a few months earlier) and barely knew anything about the Odyssey before this musical. Like, I knew the name Odysseus and I knew of the Trojan War, but that was pretty much it.
Btw don't feel pressured to watch the animatics people are linking! While it does give more physical context to whats happening the music itself is very visual and considering the fact you already know The Odyssey and already got every plotpoint down i think you're good lmao
If you plan on continuing listening to the musical I definitely recommend watching some of the animatics people have made to go with it! It hits so much harder when you can see it visually
Thank you so much for using the re-recordings. I know some people may be more fond of the originals, but this really helps Jorge (the writer, composer, and Odysseus' singer in this musical)! Jorge didn't get royalties for the first two sagas (nine songs) from the production company he was at before. So, he re-recorded the first nine songs, started his own production company, and released the rest of the songs through his own company, Winion Entertainment LLC. The musical is still a work in progress, and there are supposed to be 40 songs in total. So far, the musical is at 25 songs (that includes six saga albums: 1. Troy; 2. Cyclops; 3. Ocean; 4. Circe; 5. Underworld; 6. Thunder) with the next five songs (7. The Wisdom Saga) set to be released sometime in the next two months or so. You're in for a ride, my friend! I recommend checking out animatics once you finish a saga (this is the Troy saga, which is five songs long) so you can experience only the music first. The animatics help give more context to the songs, though. I would recommend Gigi’s animatics for the first two songs, though it uses the original songs, which is why it may sound slightly different. If you want an animatic playlist, you can check out the one I made through this link or by clicking on my channel. The first nine animatics were made using the original versions of the songs: ua-cam.com/play/PLjaNJHXk-DKfRNTRwPDW5BZiOP3_6OSoV.html&si=lrOEPNDSfgaq6aaC
Oh! I can be the one to give the fun fact! The choir for any part depends on whether the main singer is a mortal or not. For Odysseus, his men sing in the background; if there is a choir there has to be characters nearby. But for Gods, they can create their own backup singers out of nothing and can use whatever instruments they want. It doesn't affect the enjoyment of the musical at all, but everyone likes to share it~ And you were right, that was Zeus! he eagle screech signifies it is him, though you probably know more history about the relationship between Zeus and eagles than I do, lol. The songs are incredible. There are 24 or 25 out now, I think. Knowing the story ahead of time helps clarify some things, but Jorge (pronounced Hor-hay), has taken some artistic liberties (in addition to writing the musical, he is also the singer for Odysseus!)
Don't feel pressured to watch the animatics for your reaction! Although they are all absolutly amazing I feel like you would personally find it more enjoyable with just the audio with the first listen. As you said multiple time in the video Jorge does such a fantastic job with his audio story telling, every single instrument and sound affect are well though out and placed deliberately. (The animatic could be a seperate reaction or just something for your own time.) I'm looking forward to see how your knowladge of the Odyssey will show through out your reactions. Please continue to react!
I would love to see you continue this! As some others have said, there are a bunch of wonderful animatics for the songs that often incorporate details Jorge (the creator) has mentioned about scenes or sequences. In addition, here are some interesting (non-spoiler) facts about this that I'm sure other comments have mentioned but I haven't seen: -Characters will usually have a "signature instrument" and/or "motifs" you can identify them with, even without their explicit singing, guitar in Odysseus's case. -While mortals tend to have traditional instruments, gods or other supernatural elements (witches, monsters etc) will instead have more electronic music. -Backup vocals follow rules: Mortal singers can only have background vocals from characters on the screen (ex Odysseus's crew if he's singing) whereas gods can summon their own choir at will.
Welcome to the EPIC journey! I recommend watching the animatics people have made to go with the songs, as they can help clarify things that happen musically! They’re also just amazing in their own right :D Also just a fun thing to listen for is the “danger is nearby” motif! You can hear the viola play it from 1:16-1:30, and 2:13-2:29 in this video :) Tip: it’s not *always* played by the viola tho, So listen closely!
I see you everywhere Shyy, glad there's people like you that are active commenters that get people more invested in the stuff. I rarely comment, but I do love watching this and I google "Epic the Musical reaction" almost every day. Lmao
I do hope you continue to do the songs from this! As someone who loves greek myth, having someone understand and correctly identify what's going on is so nice!

I see epic the musical I click. Welcome to the Epic journey! I recommend watching animatics as you go through these after the Troy and Cyclops Sagas (that is if you choose to keep going). Great video ❤!!!
@@PatrolNation And thank you for using it! Apparently there was some issue with the recording studio that quagmired the production in a year long hiatus. This version is a rerecording that directly supports the artist, cast and crew, recorded in their home based studio and everything. My vote would be keep reacting to this, then consider looking at some of the admittedly magnificent animatics once you've gone through and sampled just the songs. Obviously, you do you, just throwing that out there.
@@PatrolNation If you like them enough, is better to react to an entire saga (each saga has 3 to 5 songs) because it's easier to remember the lore. The animations are great as a second watch if you like the songs, IMO!
There’s so much story behind/interwoven within the songs. Highly recommend diving deeper into this world. It’s not directly like The Odyssey, of course, but it’s still _so good_
Thanks for featuring this. I had seen a few thumbnails floating around but never knew what it was until your reaction. I binged the whole musical twice last night. This is amazing. I hope you get a ton of view on this. It's still in development but apparently it will feature 40 songs.
I'm here for this journey! would recommend listening to the first two sagas (Troy and Cyclops) as they were updated and re-released in beginning of July, before jumping into animatics. they use the old versions.
I'd recommend watching the animatics. However, let it be noted that the animatics of each song from the Troy Saga through the Cyclops Saga are using outdated versions of the songs. The Troy and Cyclops Sagas were all redone alongside the release of the Thunder Saga this month. So maybe a dual reaction of the old version/animatic and the redone version? Edit: The version of The Horse and the Infant that you listened to is the new one
Yesss!!! Excited for more people to react to this! Welcome to the fun. Great reaction. Liked and subbed. Ps. I would HIGHLY recommend the animatics for your journey also. Although most don’t have the remastered new versions of the music. But it’s not too drastic of a difference.
