So grateful for this channel and this community of folks! It feeds my soul and feeds by brain with good things… useful and helpful things. Thank you Buckin’… and thank you to all here that spread kindness and love. The whole world is in need of more love and kindness.
Hey Buckin, I guess that's my first comment here or at least i don't remember. I have a "problem" thanks to you and now i love working with saws. Couple years ago I've seen the square file thing and I was obsessed with it since then but couldn't buy the double bevel file, not so long ago i met another guy on chat at another youtuber's live and BANG, he sent me the file. I started training right away and I think im doing it fine. I also got inspired to modify, port and make mufflers thanks to Ironhorse and Tinman. I just wanted to say a simple thank you to all three of you. And also sorry for my english if I did somwhere a mistake 😁
Buckin let me tell you what I did today. I've been watching your videos a lot lately, along with bluegrass and his firewood videos, it's been great inspiration while I'm trying to get my mill and firewood business going. Well today I did something I haven't done since I was a kid, I went out and fell a tree with an axe! Lol all I have as far as an axe goes now days is a 26 inch "boys" axe I picked up at the hardware store for no other reason really except to play with it and see just how sharp I could get it and polish it up like a peice of chrome. Well it's sharp! You can shave your arm with it. It was a lot of fun and it went way faster than I expected, I need poles for my barn I'm building for my mill so I figured why not cut some by hand. It took me back to my youth and I felt for just a little bit like I was 13 again, only difference was I never got a axe that sharp as a kid, it felt like nothing else watching those big chunks of pine fly and hearing that "POP" every time that bit took a big bite. I'm definitely going to find me another real axe! I'm sure I've got some of my dad's old axe heads laying around just waiting for a new handle. Thanks again for your videos and inspiration. "Birds of a feather" y'all help me be more positive about life in general
I have a baby saw (Husky 450) that I downed and bucked a dead walnut with, at my moms. Used the trigger feathering you talk about it, and it worked AMAZING!!!
After learning to hand file square grind I find it works really well in maple . Always learning something new from you Buckin and a truly appreciate it .
So thankful for your videos buckin they have helped me with my hand filing a lot. Also your videos on handling axes helped me finish my grandpas double bit that I’ve been working on for 3 years because I had no idea what I was doing so thank you a bunch I appreciate you
Hey Brother! Been watching...you've given this old boy lots of pointers...keep on with the real saws!!! Love my Super XL Auto...you have given me hope for my plans! Would love to chat if you have a minute.
I love my down time watching Buckin. Those powersaws are nothing short of spectacular but the positivity felt after each video is what I come for. I hope everyone is doing well!
Been watching for years and when you start talking all the technical stuff on filing and other stuff I am lost, but I never get tired watching you buck and split wood. Your positive attitude and work ethic and spreading kindness and love will always keep me coming back even though I don't understand alot of the technical stuff
Mr. Evans, I was lost with the fileling as well. I noticed the magnified close ups of the burs coming off of the chains as he sharpens. So I bought me some magnified reader glasses, and I filled my saw while wearing them. I have no more dull chains, thanks to Buckin
It is nice to see you so excited back on the stump with three incredible power saws Buckin! Man when you have saws cut like those saws it is something to smile about! I love you my brother!

Buckin. Another great video my friend. Love every minute of it. You are a breathe of fresh air to us all. Those saws sure do cut. A. Have a great weekend my friend. ❤
Buckin, from starting to watch your vids from Steve’s Saloon, I went from the Stihl all in 1 sharpening tool which works great to a round file and have gotten pretty good at filing, now you got me fired up to try a square hand file. Keep those teeth sharp and keep at your work bud! What you are doing fills the heart.
Billy ray I love ya buddy, great videos as always, love ur excitement youve taught me alot and brought out my love for the woods. Thankyou for ur wprds of wisdom. Have a great night buddy

absolutely loved the video. the guys i work with get a laugh when watching me having fun hand filing a saw only to have them take it and cut in the dirt. they just don't get it
I have cut lots of hardwood, and it does depend on filing as always. If your chain is sharp its sharp. Cutting harder wood does take longer but that doesn't change it is always hard. I have yet to try square file, but everyone here uses round files, I only recently started using a grinder because of sawing on the rip, I found my hand filing wasn't consistent enough to saw right. Learned lots here, so thanks.
@@BuckinBillyRaySmith ... and I'm guessing out west, I learned from old time fallers here in N. S. They always used round files, but yes recently the internet brought it to me. I started falling in '95. Thanks.
G'day Buckin, I feel the earth move under my feet when I recently ran my MS880 Magnum in a a three footer that fell over a fence because it's been so wet here and a lot off trees are toppling over anyway 80% of the trunk was underground. You have to know your tip to be able to cut that out without breaking through well I must have been lucky, like you only a thin piece on the bottom was holding that broke off when I pulled it with the loader cutters unite👍.
Awesome content brother 👏 🙌 👌 as always you have a God given skill that brings people together!! You have paved the way for channels like mine! 👍 You are awesome brother ❤️
A very cool video, thank you. And that grinder with it's ability to do gymnastics to twist around to get the square grind you were doing. DO have a question. Is there anything to gain by taking material off the BACK side of the side plate, ( back vs. cutting side ) to let chips flow thru ? And is that Donny Walker bar a relabel of a Sugihara? Kind of has that "Sugi" look. Husqvarna relabels Sugihara's out my way. And winter? Caterpillars Say it's easy in hard out. You could always get back out here if the cold is getting you, it's been 65plus all week.
@@BuckinBillyRaySmith In the middle of culling out 75-80 tree's in a 50 acre area, most in the 24-28 inch diameter class....so ...yeah we could work something out. :) The root flares go wide fast so to get a close cut on those the GOL approach works to cut them close. BUT since they are my trees, anything goes. Humboldt too. :)
Yeah metal logo things are cool I want one ...if the top stuck out a little more to make it like a cross I think you would sell a crap ton of em ...but yeah I Want one ...keep up the drummin...an I also would like to do purchase one of your axes , you do an awesome job brother.
I agree with you on most things, but as far as hard, tough wood I'd say hedge is the hardest thing on saws and chains. It eats up AV mounts. It vibrates screws out ,and a chain just don't last in it. Most saw mills around here won't even mess with it, and if they do, they charge extra. Also it burns hot enough that if you load your stove with it and let it go. Your stove will most likely end up scrap metal.
I remember that video, he just hammered that thing just straight to it, but yeah when you watch him he is a master of his trade. He not only could hear that saw start to rev but I would bet the house that he could feel it with that little homelite.
Hey Buckin, i realy like how you never bring political views into your content. Society is so divided these days, it is nice to watch your vids and not here the politics crap. Keep on makin sawdust, me and my boy love it man. Thanks!

I also noticed that the underside of one of your chains was a bit mushroomed over n chewed up a bit. Is that from a worn sprocket or🤷♂️ I’ve never seen that. Would enjoy your insight😃 thanks for you friend ❤️
@@BuckinBillyRaySmith surely friend. It was at 8:45 the close up on the new wss chain. It was only on the starter side from what I could see. A couple min later when running it. Something just doesn’t sound right. Kinda a whizzing sound.
I noticed the STIHL sqr/sqr chain was the same way ! Right outta the box and it didn’t cut very well at all … Had to file each tooth by hand as I don’t have a silvey/simington and my robot grinder is set up for round. I think the Husqvarner C-83 sqr/rnd cuts better than STIHL factory sqr/sqr grind by a large margin … once “trued up” by hand I’d say it’s 10%+ faster than the c-83 … Shouldn’t have to touch up brand new out of the box chain ….
This may not have a lot to do with this video but I have a couple questions for ya Buckin. Fist what brand of files do you recommend for filing chains and axe heads? I don’t have the funds for a grinder at the moment so doing everything by hand so I’d like to find a quality set of files. Also just picked up an old HB 4lb 13oz tassie pattern. What handle configuration do you recommend? Length, maker, and shape? I’m about 6’ tall and mainly just split wood. I’m new to the axe and chainsaw restoration world. Thanks in advance for any advice you can give.
I am sure you will be surprised by the response for the danglers. I love the logo and depending upon the cost I would be proud to dangle one from my truck mirror.
That little Homelite is amazing! All those Huskies are the real deal also. So cool to see. Just curious... how many hours are on the 394? She is a beast!
Ive got to learn how to square file - its the next step for me. A question - when square filing a new chain, do you have to clean out the gullet the same way you do when round filing or do you just focus on the top amd side plate? Last question, whats a Sasperella?
Billy Ray , i just got my 051AV (full wrap 404 36" bar 7 tooth) put back together and dangit ran out of daylight!! Want so bad to see if the timing job I did was non-malfunctional. Its not an electronical ignition so you have to get the magneto gap, point gap, point plate location and timing marks all to jive, hard if the points are a little worn but I think I got her dialed in after verifying condensor , coil, poits and ignition switch were correct. This saw was a real find, the paint isnt even worn off the corner of the gas tank or the bottom. next projik is a McCulloch 795 that is practically new but had sat in a barn for a long time. The Stihl is for daily farm use and the 795 will be a wall hanger in the man cave with a 58" bar. Aftre that I have my old Mac SP80, SP 81e and 850 work saws to restore. might try my hand at port/polish too! Thanks for all the great vids!!
I’m not sure I’ve seen such passion for what someone does like Buckin !!

hey brother why do you hold the pull start out slightly as you kill the engine? Does that stop these from busting the recoils when you shut down?
Great Videos
That little Homelite is amazing! All those Huskies are the real deal also. So cool to see. Just curious... how many hours are on the 394? She is a beast!
literally unfathomable.. Hogan was in Wendy still
Smoothidity
Love the long form video. Pls tell me what size round file you would use for a new Oregon XP .325 chain.
I believe it requires a 3/16" file
4,8mm file
Hellooooo Buckin! 👍
Ive got to learn how to square file - its the next step for me. A question - when square filing a new chain, do you have to clean out the gullet the same way you do when round filing or do you just focus on the top amd side plate? Last question, whats a Sasperella?
code word for favorite drink hahaha . i leave the gullet in on square
Thanks for all the great vids!!
peace an love from scotland stu an family .
