Anywhere from 5-6 ft deep. Had to keep the rod tip up and retrieval speed just right to just keep the blade bait off the bottom. If the water gets much colder, this fast retreive would not be effective and would need to switch to swim baits or suspending jerk baits. Right now the blade bait action is what distracts the fish from the large schools of shad. That's why a swim bait isn't effective right now unless you get one away from all the bait fish.

Cool, I fish Charles mill and Pleasant hill lake in Richland and Ashland county for eyes, not as good as buckeye or Indian but we get a few lol
