Another solid video brother! Wet my line tonight at the boat ramps at Buckeye. Beautiful evening for sure. Bite was decent. You’re videos have helped my fishing success rates for sure. Keep them coming!
your the man on buckeye andrew . follow the shad. throw big baits and get the impulse bite .i have fished those canals but hate the crowds,,,,going up tommorrow to fish the evining , like to find some less crowded spots even if theres less fish ,good video brother true sportsman and good info thanks..
Thanks, Ed. There's fish in all the channels if you're patient enough, doesn't have to be the crowded ones. Just because no one is fishing it doesn't mean it's not going to produce fish. I tend to try to go where people aren't too. People burn out quick when the bite is slow and disappear though. Good luck out there!!
Not sure you see this as it's been little over a year . I live on Ky. Lake on Tn. River and I begin fishing for Sauger around Thanksgiving every year . Although our Sauger numbers have been on a decline for 5 to 7 years I do manage to catch some all be it not like years past . However we have a growing population of Walleye as Wildlife agencies have been stocking the river east of Ky. Lake in Tn. river for number of years . This year I've caught a larger number of short Sauger than years past as well as 10 to 15 short Walleye most days being in the 8 to 10 inch range which again isn't a bad thing as it only puts a brighter outlook on future catches . I've been catching majority of the fish in the 30 to 38 ft range with water temp around 54 to 50 depending . Would like to know the depth in which your catching these Saugeye and if shallow is it because they have no deeper water as it appears you are on a subdivision lake . I'm very curious as you stated the water temp much colder than ours at the moment . I guess I'm wanting to figure out if I may need to try a shallow bite . I would assume the three types of fish would or could be caught using same technique and or pattern . Thx in advance and Merry Christmas to you and yours and Safe Fishing !!
Awesome David. Most of the lakes I fish are fairly shallow, but these fish will go into the shallow areas to feed on bait fish in the fall and early winter months. I definitely recommend trying some shallow rocky or sandy bottom areas and even where there are water inlets. I do a ton of searching for fish and this point seems to hold true every year. The depths I'm catching most of them are in the 4-7ft range.
Enjoy watching your great video on saugeye ! I too love to catch these fish. You was talking about the saugeye targeting the shad and how they play into where you fish on the lake. Have noticed through watching your past videos that you use the firetiger color alot. Do you use this firetiger color more because of the water color or are the saugeye feeding on a perch population in the buckeye lake ?
All the same areas should work in the winter that were fished the rest of the year, but will need to vertical jig rattle spoons, crappie jigs, blade baits. Tipped with wax worms, or a minnow on a treble hook jigged up and down. Sometimes they hang in the deeper spots too. It's all about timing.

@@FishinTooling thank you sir! Anxious to try some saugeye fishing on buckeye this fall. Never targeted them before so getting together everything I need.
Matt, it depends on the day. Sometimes I float up to a spot and hit a bunch real quick and they inhale it which tells me they're hungry. Sometimes I cast 30 times in the same spot then they hit and it's hooked on the outside of their mouth which tells me more of a reaction bite. It just depends on the day......

Thanks for watching! Yes, I use firetiger to mimic perch which are stocked in buckeye lake.
helpful video! might bring my kayak out to buckeye next weekend (knowing my luck i will catch a pig now that the brawl is over lol)
Good luck and be careful out there in a kayak! I've seen a couple people go under in cold water in them. Tight lines sir!
Any advice for ice fishing?

Not sure if I’ll get a response but worth a try. I really like those gloves where can I get a pair? @Fishing Tooling

Do you think you get more reaction bites than anything?

Way to long to get to the point
