Cheikh Hamza Yusuf is truly a man of wisdom and knowledge, a man deep in his belief and dedication to Islam, he is a very precious person to Islam in this sense that he is very attached to books, honest with the restitution of what he has read. Remember, he converts at a very young age , made the the sacrifice to quit his comfort zone after his conversion and during his young age, going over seas to seek knowledge related to Islam, we as Muslim should love him, support him , protect him , pray for him instead of all this hate against him.I am Senegalese , I live in USA and I discover him very recently, a few years ago, but since then I can miss any of his talk , and believe me this man is a precious person in our religion

I knew exactly what he meant when he said Palestinians have to suffer in silence. Prophet Yaqub (as) suffered, lost his sight after Yusuf disappeared due to the jealous siblings. There are many examples in the Qur'an of suffering/patience in silence. Edit: Palestinians have been suffering in silence. That was from Allah (SW) too. Not as a punishment. If it was a punishment, they would not be martyrs then.

What he actually said was “sometimes it is necessary to suffer in silence” which was not at all related to how Palestinians are suffering.
i was so angry to see the way he has been treated by our own community. He is to my mind not just a great Islamic scholar but one of the brightest minds living in our time trying to bridge tradition and modernity and make it all look so graceful and beautiful. If i hear Mo Hijab speak about Islam or any of the other dawah grifters, it puts me off my own religion so much since they reek of pseudointellectualism.
I think as Muslim we should stop judging people. If he made a mistakes it is between him and Allah. We just take the sweetness of his knowledge and respect him as Islamic scholar who did so much for the ummah especially his role in Zaytuna Institute. I really admired him, his knowledge, the books he read, the experience he explored as muslim to learn, his sharing, his thought and advice. Alhamdulillah.
Many born Muslims love Hamza Yusuf including myself, but unfortunately we have different ideologies among Muslims. Muslims have difference of opinions with many other scholars as well not just Hamza Yusuf. Now that we have social media available, our differences are much more prevalent and apparent.

I remember HY apologising for his anti western rhetoric when he visited Harrow Mosque in 2002. I used to listen to him on cassette tapes way back when and always wondered that as he hated the west so much, why didnt he stay in Mauritania! Then he was advising Bush post 9/11 re Islam and muslims didnt like that. Everything about HY and his controversies back then was a male going through the usual maturity phases. Only difference is that he, unlike the rest of us, was doing this in public and had a platform which made it more important for him to consider what he was saying extremely carefully as young folk hung on his words back then. I was in my early 20s and yet was mature enough not to scholar worship or follow sheikhs. I think its important we recognise that living beings make mistakes and mature.
21:07 my issue here (no violence towards civilians) in regards to Palestine and Israel, specifically, is that it's unknown which or how many settler "civilians" are hostile. Not only are they armed, but they shoot farmers on their own land then steal the land. Even under international law, unguided rockets against an occupying government with hostile civilians is legal. I'm not saying that just because it's permissible that I want it to happen. How can we expect peace when these are signs of the Hour, as well as prophecies coming to pass. The zealous youth like me on Social media should understand that Shaykh Hamza Yusuf is an erudite scholar, a fountain of wisdom, a sign of nobility that runs through his veins. But We, on the other hand, are just ignorant random zombie-like human beings trying to spit at the sun. All we care about is controversies and entertainment and attacking scholars. We know nothing about the Islamic tradition, hardly ever studied islamic sciences. We can't think for ourselves; we are just slaves of the algorithm; we are like that random soldier of hitler who is used like a puppet. But Shaykh hamza Yusuf is the type of human being who left the matrix forty years ago when he crossed the deserts to learn the deen of God. All we do is click and swip.

I knew exactly what he meant when he said Palestinians have to suffer in silence. Prophet Yaqub (as) suffered, lost his sight after Yusuf disappeared due to the jealous siblings. There are many examples in the Qur'an of suffering/patience in silence.
Edit: Palestinians have been suffering in silence. That was from Allah (SW) too. Not as a punishment. If it was a punishment, they would not be martyrs then.

What he actually said was “sometimes it is necessary to suffer in silence” which was not at all related to how Palestinians are suffering.
i was so angry to see the way he has been treated by our own community. He is to my mind not just a great Islamic scholar but one of the brightest minds living in our time trying to bridge tradition and modernity and make it all look so graceful and beautiful. If i hear Mo Hijab speak about Islam or any of the other dawah grifters, it puts me off my own religion so much since they reek of pseudointellectualism.

I think as Muslim we should stop judging people. If he made a mistakes it is between him and Allah. We just take the sweetness of his knowledge and respect him as Islamic scholar who did so much for the ummah especially his role in Zaytuna Institute. I think he is waliullah. Zaytuna college the first islamic college in USA. Books, islamic lecture. Is enough proof that he know what he's talking about. He study Islam for decades. Talks about Islam everyday. Thought by calibre Ulama around the world. Allahu A'lam. Have good opinion about other muslim brother and sister.
I remember HY apologising for his anti western rhetoric when he visited Harrow Mosque in 2002. I used to listen to him on cassette tapes way back when and always wondered that as he hated the west so much, why didnt he stay in Mauritania! Then he was advising Bush post 9/11 re Islam and muslims didnt like that.
Everything about HY and his controversies back then was a male going through the usual maturity phases. Only difference is that he, unlike the rest of us, was doing this in public and had a platform which made it more important for him to consider what he was saying extremely carefully as young folk hung on his words back then. I was in my early 20s and yet was mature enough not to scholar worship or follow sheikhs. I think its important we recognise that living beings make mistakes and mature.

21:07 my issue here (no violence towards civilians) in regards to Palestine and Israel, specifically, is that it's unknown which or how many settler "civilians" are hostile. Not only are they armed, but they shoot farmers on their own land then steal the land. Even under international law, unguided rockets against an occupying government with hostile civilians is legal.
