What a dim review , I wore this watch to work (support worker with the elderly ) all through the pandemic , it was constantly soaked with soap , hot water and anti-bac and it kept perfect time .Only change I made was to swap the original ( very nice ) leather strap for a black Timex nylon strap. My other watches are a solar G-Shock 5610 and a wee Seiko SNK , but I keep going back to the Timex . Also wandering around a back garden with it on your wrist isn`t going on an expedition !
To anyone searching videos on this watch, the one I bought in the USA was half the price, has different watch hands and a different strap. Its worked flawlessly for months. Not saying it will last forever but its not the crap this guy got. Im happy with it.
Good video but you were robbed. For the money you spent, in Canada you can get a Timex Command with 200 metres WR, mineral glass, Indiglo, rubber strap and a ISO shock resistance rating (whatever that means).
I just got gallatin, problem is it works in day. When there is no sunlight, it does not work. Does this have a rechargeable battery inside? I am thinking that the battery does not store power/charge. TY
Well, it is a Timex. Their use of the term "watch" is sometimes a little questionable. Remember their watches from the fifties and sixties where the mechanisms were riveted together? The only things I've seen that deserves some credit are their Fly Back chronographs and the Indiglo idea. For less than this you can get a number of different Vostok Amphibia models, including a GMT version and a true 24 movement, and you get a real, 200 meter water resistant, expedition watch. All powered by "The wonderful natural outdoors adventure of moving, like running from a bear." Greeting from Minnesota.
I love indigo. Trying desperately to find a Timex indigo (or any other brand that has good backlighting) that's worth wearing. I thought I almost had it when I bought the Timex expedition shock digital with a 100m water resistance and indigo but the band is incredibly uncomfortable to wear and it's way too big (thick). 50mmx15mm. To be fair at Casio is doing the same thing with their watches. Most G-Shocks are way too big.
You get what you pay for; Timex is not saying that it is the perfect watch for a trip of one year through Africa. It is a sport looking economic watch perfect for a non "watch aficionado" teenager that needs to get in time to his construction job, or to the school; put it into that arena, and that watch is a decent option. Just my two cents, gentlemen.
It's a cheap, beater watch dude. This is a no frills solar watch that's not to be compared to a Rolex or things that cost 10x as much, even things 2x as much. It's great as a basic watch that could get briefly wet, is lightweight and you aren't upset if it gets lost. What do you recommend in the same price point with the features you want? Instead of crying, what solutions or alternatives do you recommend?
Nicer Solar options under £99: Casio AQ-S810W-1A2VEF Citizen BM8180-03E Citizen Watch Eco Drive Urban AW5005-39H Timex TW4B14900 Casio G-Shock GW-M5610-1ER. Although some I have suggested above definitely cost more than this Timex, for relatively little more, there are so many amazing choices! (with solar) The Casio tough Solar for under £40 is a fabulous option for less money. Without solar? The titanium or full lumibrite dial Lorus field watches are awesome. Hope this helps. Regards, Dan
Very interesting to view a truly honest review. I personally like the Timex brand. I do feel they have got the marketing wrong on this particular model. Great looking NATO strap👍
I was about to buy this watch for around 90 euros. And it's very good that I came across your clip. A very honest and reliable review. I think I will choose the Casio AQ-S800W instead, which is cheaper and probably better...
I can tell you for a fact that this Casio is amazing for the price. I actually picked mine up from a thrift store for $15, nearly in perfect condition, and it's been flawless. I've been wearing it to work, when installing hardwood floors, I've swam with it, you name it. No problem what so ever. Money well spent. I say go for it.
I think at the usual price point most of the non solar expeditions are at they are ok value. Ive had one as a go to work watch for over 10 years that i bought because i liked the style of it before i really got into watches (mine was in fashion watch price territory of about £45) .The suede strap mutated into leather and has only just got its first crack on the reverse, so I’ve only just replaced that with a NATO. 50m WR is ok for me as is the fixed bezel. I would say 50m WR splash proof is a similar mislead as 200m non ISO dive watch. I think on some of your previous posts you have mentioned getting a more understandable WR rating system and I’m all in favour of that. It would be interesting to know how many people rotate their bezel then zero it and never use it again, and i would bet most dive watch never see a paddling pool let alone an ocean. Indiglo if its on the watch beats any lume. Marketing names do catch people out for sure but any purchaser should research first (hint the Pagani watches are nothing to do with the supercar). As for the date window it doesn’t look much smaller than the de-cyclopsed diver watches you have. Quartz is still going to be telling the correct time at the end of your two week holiday. Your reviews are great so I’m just trying to show the opposite side of the coin.
Thanks David. I thought I would dabble in a little rant review of this watch. I got a bit carried away lol. I just think I got annoyed with the watch because it sends mixed messages, so other things about the watch end up becoming a target for ridicule and annoyance.
watch me with watches its all good.Your videos are great. I actually think the bigger crime in the watch industry is the fitness tracker that has 50m WR. Most watches are bought because you like the look of them, but a fitness tracker needs the durability and WR like no other. My Withings Steel HR would steam up on any warm day (thanks for John Lewis no quibble return policy once id worked out what was happening)
I think I mentioned it before but I've always had an appreciation for nice watches and I always wanted to get into collecting nice interesting watches and the first thing I really bought for myself with my allowance when I was just a little kid was an early Casio calculator watch from King's department store like 30 years ago. Well when I was 16 and got my first job besides under-the-table gigs and working Summers before I was old enough to go to work part time after school making my own money and basically doing whatever I wanted to do I found myself preoccupied and busy with other things but I was always one to work hard and play even harder and that's probably why I didn't get into nicer watches until now cuz I didn't want to break them cuz I literally beat the hell out of my watches at the time. The watches of choice that never let me down, the Timex Ironman and Expedition series. I worked out on the job site from sunup to Sunset pouring concrete, siding houses, Roofing houses and a little of everything in between and I literally beat the hell out of my watches in the process and they never let me down. I also took them all over the mountains and hillsides and even diving a great number of times as well as bridge jumping amongst other things and the silly things just wouldn't quit. And then one day I finally had an iron man died on me and that was because apparently hit it so hard I cracked the housing and water got in it and toasted the module. I know some of the things they make do seem a little silly and ridiculous and I agree with you but all I can say is up until that one died on me I've never had a problem with them 😎
I paid 40 dollars for mine and it came with a nylon Velcro strap. It is okay, but nothing to write home about. I work in a messy foundry and what does hold up there is a G Shock or a Mud Resist.
Expedition yimex watches are thin leather at best Just cut open an Expedition leather watch band. I'm not worried about swimming wit a leather Expedition watch band.
For Timex read tat. Timex are not what they used to be and they were never really any good anyway. Cheep and disposable, the Bic razor of the watch world. You be careful on those expeditions Dan.😁
I know what you mean, they can look really nice, but don't always feel robust. I will keep my g shock for when I wing suit through mountain ranges and land in the ocean where i fight off angry sharks.
That is a good expedition watch to go to Las Vegas strip, restaurant hopping, doing shopping groceries or outlet mall to buy some stuffs. Timex should put expedition-indoor instead of outdooor
Actually it does quite well in the Montana forests. My Redwing leather boots perform well too. It is definitely an outdoor watch. Until someone has actually worn the watch for 6 months, a review is trivial at best.
Great review! I have a Timex chrono and it’s rubbish! I also have that G Shock in solar powered form which is brilliant out here in the UAE where we have an abundance of sunshine to power it, it’s been in the pool, in the sea, dropped in the sand and still absolutely fine, now that is an expedition watch!
The for-display-only bezel is really disappointing because there are cheaper watches with functioning bezels. But i won't fault the 50m water resistance. Many watches have 50m water resistance. I have taken them swimming and showering without any issues whatsoever. It is definitely not a dive watch. The expedition can include jumping into a waterfall but should not include scuba diving. Recently i bought a very cheap Casio watch with a display only bezel too. It cost only $20 and has 50m water resistance. I am more than happy going swimming or doing anything with water. I will buy another one if water leaks in.
Funny review! Liked it. But you are correct about the Expedition name! I got this the last week and it's slowing down a minute every day! Looks like a scam too.
Hello to my countrymen hey mate you did a great interview on this watch thank you very much you're absolutely right about leather if you're going on an expedition why would you wear a leather you're absolutely right thank you for sharing this video I subscribed your channel cheerio 👍🖐️🤑😃😎🤠
Expedition watch without a Screw-down crown ???? Looks nice mind you, but too expensive for those rubbish specs. And I dont even mind the strap as I just have loads of Natos anyway . And it does not even have backlight. I would get an Amphibia for less than that , without backlight ans still have a serious watch. For me , Timex are only useful to sleep with , cause they have an excellent Indiglo backlight , when they do . I have one them and only wear it in bed.
@@watchmewithwatches Yes I think I saw that today too... I have 2 amphibias , my only gripe with them is the non clicking bezel ( I heard under pressure it does not move but Im not a diver ) . Either way I love them
Con ese precio no se consigue nada más, hay que ser realistas, sería estupido y hasta una estafa si costara lo mismo que un reloj táctico de Casio o citizen, me parece que este rejol cumple con lo que se espera por su precio.
