Man I LOVE the message at the end of all your videos. You keep the youtube landscape fresh and passionate, and your words help people to remember why they started/continue their journey on youtube. Please keep it up!
i played during 1.3, and the framerate was mostly fine until the end. in the final section i realized my best bet was running past everything and my fps tanked HARD into the single digits. the only way i was able to finish the game was run past enemies and suffer low fps, then in the final room save and reload to get everything off my ass, then barricade the doorway with some barrels to buy me enough time to do the final sequence.
While the game looks awesome, as a college student the cooking segments are so much fun and inspiring to watch. I’ve been trying to eat healthier to balance out how long I sit at the computer doing assignments and I might want to try the chicken veggie pasta next time to mix it up from the mountains of rice I eat (as an Asian, I’m like 50% rice lol)
The frugality of it is so good too. Now that I finally have my own kitchen it’s so much nicer to do things like buy a block of cheese and slice/grate it myself. His advice is what gave me the inspiration to do that.
I love those segments too. I'm already part of the work force, but meal prepping has become even more important now that I spend 42 hours a week on the job. There's one recipe I unlocked recently, so easy and nutritive, it goes like this: slice zuchinni, carrots, onions and potatoes in circles, put them on a tray with chicken, add olive oil and your favorite spices (i use garlic powder, oregano and paprika, bu you do you). It all goes in the oven until the chicken is ready and voilá, you got a nice lunch
I know they were a meme for a while but air fryers are genuinely super good for cooking, most things you can do in an oven you can do in them, if you find ovens a bit too challenging to use for whatever reason then you should get one.
Aw, damn, it's unfortunate to hear that this has so many technical issues. I love the old-school setups of SS1 and Ultima Underworld, so stylistically this looks rad. Here's hoping the dev is able to iron things out eventually!
I grew up playing a lot of old obscure im-sims and slowly as I got older stopped playing them just due to friend groups and what was available to me. Now at 27 I love watching all your videos because I get to see all these great games that I immediately wishlist or purchase when I get the funds. Thank you for keeping this underrated genre alive in my heart ❤
Looks cool, but I recently finished System Shock and I don't think I could stand another OS-type game. Also, I don't think boomer shooters place endgame enemies on previous levels since most of them are linear and you can't even go back to said levels (apart from level selection options when provided). I'd say it's more of a dickish RPG thing to do.
Yeah that segment kind of irked me, not a huge deal by any means, but still, I have no idea what boomer shooters they're talking about and I play a lot of them. Hrot, Ultrakill, Turbo Overkill, Dusk, Wrath, etc, those are all games I'd consider prototypical boomer shooters and none of them have anything even close to what they're describing.
Oh it pulls the old Eternal Darkness tricks for the modern age? I am 100% in, I loved it when that game messed with you by flashing up the tv mute icon and stopping all sound. So glad someone is trying to modernize it!
oh hell yeah, i've been hoping you'd cover this one. Sonar shock is a really fun horror themed imsim that's held back by the fact that its a solo dev project, i love the game but i found it obtuse, i genuinely think a manual would solve most of the issues i have with this game.
Lasagna is my go to meal prep. Also the moment you said "Health items recover a fixed amount" my first thought was "No point in increasing my HP" so yeah, strength would be a dump stat
Little bit of a letdown as I kept watching the video, but I think I'll grab it anyway. Not like we're drowning in games of this style, and supporting developers that take the risk to make such a difficult niche style is a good thing. You make something I like, you get rewarded with my time and money. Sad that it has balance and performance problems but, like Fortune's Run, I'll probably enjoy the game regardless. Great video as per usual, another game that would have otherwise flown below my radar.
Maybe try creating a melee build with the ability to eat dead enemies. Cannibalism is really good on almost all builds as long as you dont unlock the sanity gauge. Also you can avoid sanity effects if you never grab psi ability ever. Apparently the dev confirmed this is intended. I dunno if this persists on 1.2 but crates respawn and can still drop loot. New enemies respawning on floor 1 seems to happen when you complete a specific floor (floor 2 iirc)
1:32 I know this is a nitpick, but we have the Northern Sea Route for that. Especially for a submarine that does not require an icebreaker to clear the path.
Frozen pasta question: Love the meal prep idea! I can't handle mushy pasta, which normally happens when I cook pasta al dente, freeze it and later reheat it. Maybe that's just the cheap-ass pasta that I'm buying, or has anyone else experienced this?
Man, all I want is an immersive sim in a water-heavy setting with a focus on realistic water physics. I wanna strategically flood places and drown my enemies in games
What a darn shame about the technical issue, I have played SonarShock through completion (minus the divergent ending, I've only played one of the two ending maps) and was very curious on your thoughts on the game itself, especially the (imo much more interesting) maps and story that's the later half of the game which I personally thought was also much more interesting then the beginning half of the game. So again, darn it. I don't want to spoil anything but things get kinda wild.
Went with light/heavy weapons + psy and was able to go through the game fine, besides the FPS issues, obviously. I hope the dev gets around to fixing the mem leak.
just commenting to say i encountered the exact same issues on the day one release version , the framerate lag was so bad at the end that i had to quit and relaunch the game 5 times and wasted 5 disks, i couldnt save anywhere without disks in the release version, that was patched later. Eventually i run out of ammo and disks and i couldnt get past the awful framerate.
I'm not sure how I feel about the clash between the pixel art and the stop motion monsters made of clay. They don't feel very consistent and I'd prefer it to be one or the other, but it could be interesting if the enemies were all stop motion and the humans weren't. I think that's what they were going for, but I feel like the human enemies look a bit too cutesy if that's the case. I know that it would be a massive amount of work to re-do the assets, but I would love it if the assets were re-done with articulated action figures for the humans, like they do in Robot Chicken. It would be a much more consistent and striking art style and I feel like it would be better integrated with the environment and a lot more atmospheric in general. Seeing all these characters who feel like they've come from a completely different game next to each other is a bit jarring. Obviously, the technical issues should be prioritised, but if the game were to be successful, or a sequel were to be made, I'd love to see those assets re-done.
in germany meal prep isnt even that affordable :' I tried meal prep and actually ended up paying more and eating unhealthier, than living from mainly Döner
Yikes! I can understand that in a small way. I have to grow my own fruit and veggies here in order to be able to afford to eat healthy. THEN only does eating healthy work out cheaper than takeaways.
You mentioned a sanity mechanic and I thought of a game that also had it. Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem. I do not know if you know about this. I hope your saucy cat ate the meat stick.
A thing that irks me that the story is just really basic. Like, it feels almost like a place holder, especially since this is based on System Shock. There's a soldier you walk up to in level 2, and he basically says "Man I really like murdering people." It's really hard for me to look past balancing issues when you have the same level of story telling as Wolfenstein.
Nah he wasn't feelin' it. his treats are usually nibbling on washed pieces of broccoli or the tops of strawberries, both of which are things I've been assured are fine for him.
Don't you worry, I'm DEFINITELY getting to it, It's just gonna be in like, November once Indieween is cleared. I'm hoping to get a chance to at least start properly playing it and taking notes this month so that it'll be early November at that.
7:26 very cool design choice, that's like, menu-based Death Stranding business. 9:00 that's crazy creative. Fake Steam DMs in low sanity. 20:05 your videos can do with less speaking as if the audience is reading text you wrote. We hear you. I don't know where you get the whole "chicken is pumped full of extra juice" thing but chicken is largely water by weight and the same amount of that will cook out even if you kill the chicken yourself. Just feels very ranty and to me undercuts a lot of the rest of your points by sounding conspiracy ish instead of knowing what you're talking about

Lol, nice.
"Sonar Shock: What if System Shock was Underwater?"
You just made some BioShock fans really mad here xD
bioshock is a good game but it has virtually nothing to do with system shock gameplay-wise
@riimumaisema
Umm, actually, the first spell you learn is shock
As a huge fan of Bioshock, no not really.
let's be real, bioshock is a wannabe -shock genere game.

Here're some tips from someone that got all but two cheevos (including the ones for completing it with no saves and in

the most terrifying spook of all: Technical jank preventing the second half of the game from being played.
While the game looks awesome, as a college student the cooking segments are so much fun and inspiring to watch. Goldarnit! I can't believe I actually fell for the "lol, gotchu." Stand aside, Pavlov. UA-cam been conditioning me to skip sponsorships.
im so happy youve made a video on this, sonar shock is such an amazing successor to system shock and it deserves all the attention its gotten

Ok Char, my respect for you just skyrocketed after that food segment
Underwater System Shock? (Not Bioshock lol) what a shock to my system!
I've been subed for years, but man, I still get amped seeing a new vid. awesome lookin chicken too! freekin W
I like how all the guns are slightly different from their IRL counterparts but then they're like "and here's a random Astra 600"
Pour out a shot of olive oil for the GoPro. RIP
Lasagna is my go to meal prep. Also the moment you said "Health items recover a fixed amount" my first thought was "No point in increasing my HP" so yeah, strength would be a dump stat
Jeez- the character creation segment of the game reminds me so much of SYS.SHock 2's character creation.
"What if System Shock was Underwater?"
I'm sold.

"Some builds are completely unviable and soft lock you out of the game"
Yup that's System Shock alright lmao
Halloween in July followed by Indieween followed by Winterween and then Spooky Spring. I for one welcome our Halloween overlords.
Thank you for telling me about the respawn.

Half the year is Halloween at this point. My aunt approves.
There is still room for more.

Only stopped playing this game because it was negatively affecting my grades. When I get time I'll finish it

You should check out Endoparasitic as the sequel came out recently! I really loved the first and can't wait to see the 2nd!

At this point just have like 6 months of scary games
Not sure why they decided to force a two gun limit rather than just having an inventory system for you to arrange based on what you want.
I've beaten the game, can confirm the memory leak was awful to deal with.

But i gonna say, this sonar shock looks good tho, need to check it out

System shock underwater? Hmmmmmmmmmmm its almost like I've heard about something something like that before

My cat loves Lick-e-Lix for treats.
Seems when I bought and played this on release that I stopped before the real issues cropped up... what a shame
Sonar Shark
Even YT thinks this is System Shock
Honestly there being unviable builds that force you to restart is very system shock 2
Title: Like.... Bioshock? 😏
I got single frames in the first level when there were tons of enemies on screen, refunded it.. seems I dodged a bullet.

Speaking of System Shock, when do you think the SS2 Enhanced Edition will finally come out?
another 8 or mabye 10 years probaly
Yeah it’s calked BioShock mate.
Got me an airfryer shits peak
initally misread that as soma shock
Wait wasnt bioshock literally already the answer to this question?🤔
Damn.. No spices on that pasta or chicken? Not even a sauce?
