    There is absolutely NO privacy in using "privacy codes". Privacy codes are used to filter out hearing other users on the same channel. They can hear you if they aren't using the privacy codes and you are. You just can't hear them, they would have to be on the matching "privacy code". Also, 5 watts is normal for most handheld GMRS radios. 2 watts is for the license-free FRS radios.

      5 watts is not "normal" for GMRS radios. There really are only a handful of true 5 watt GMRS radios on the market.

    If there really is no user-replaceable battery, that's a deal-breaker for me. Seems like eventually it would end up in my junk drawer with the rest of my dead devices. OK for a cheap radio, but not for a $200 radio.

    • @adventurefurtheroffroad
      @adventurefurtheroffroad  3 місяці тому +1

      We personally have not tested that radio so we can’t really give you a fair comparison for that however looking at reviews of that specific radio, it seems as though the interface is not as user friendly as the Midlands GXT67. There are so many handhelds out on the market but with the research we have done from so many brands,the Midlands stand above and beyond!

    • @djsoundzentertainment42
      @djsoundzentertainment42 3 місяці тому +1

      The Wouxun is a "ham radio" that has been locked to transmit to GMRS frequencies only so it could be certified by the FCC for GMRS approval. So, it is super loaded with features that a normal GMRS radio wouldn't have. If you want the extra features and complexity, the Wouxun is your choice. If a more simple to use radio is what your looking for, the Midland would be the one.

    • @michaelderby1655

    Been using various 5w portable radios for 12 years or more on Gmrs. I dislike swivel holsters and as far as the so called IP67 rating, the manual page 24 indicates to NOT get the radio wet. IP67 calls for the ability to be immersed in 1 meter of water for 30 minutes without water ingress. A contradiction in their specs. As to privacy codes, you do clear this up half way thru the discourse, this is strictly a filter to block out 'foreign' conversations. All units in the same group need to be using the same privacy code to hear each other. This is something many new users are confused by. Not using a privacy code means the user hears ALL traffic on the channel. A lot of features in this package, looks like Midland is competing with Ailunce (Retevis) HA-1G. And reading the reviews- non consumer replaceable battery?! Even Motorola can handle that on their business class radios! Of course those cost much more but water sealing is not that difficult.. I made a purchase of one of these and am having second thoughts.

    What is the distance point to point?

    • @TonyYarusso
      @TonyYarusso 3 місяці тому

      That depends ENTIRELY on what the points are. GMRS is line-of-sight communication, so depends on terrain, vegetation, buildings, height above the ground, and curvature of the earth. Typically you’re dealing with anywhere from a quarter mile to five miles, but if you send two people up in hot air balloons they would work much further.

      With a repeater, cities, without 3-5ish miles.
