  • This Is Why Ariel Is The Only Disney Princess With A Child (REVISITED) | Disney Little Mermaid
As of right now, there’s no shortage of Disney Princesses, but that might not be the case forever if these royals don’t start reproducing soon! Ariel is currently the only Princess in the Disney universe who has had a child, and for a while, it seemed like the other Princesses were snubbed out of a family due to a lack of movies, but that doesn’t make any sense if you really think about it. Ariel had her daughter Melody in her first sequel film. Meanwhile, there are characters like Cinderella and Jasmine who have had 3 sequels as well as spin-off shows, shorts, and novels, and they don’t have any kids! Well, it turns out that the reason why Ariel is the only Disney Princess with a kid might run deeper than the water that she first came out of, and it might involve her relationship with her own mother as well as Walt Disney’s own regrets in life.

Honestly, Disney should make a Disney+ series about Melody travelling to kingdoms on land and in the sea trying to bring harmony to the two worlds. It only makes sense for her to do it since she is literally a child of both worlds.

From my understanding, it was marketing. Ariel having a child wasn't received well so they decided to not have any other princesses have children. They even removed Max from being Goofy's kid. It feels almost like Disney just hates parents in general.

Something you said in the video got me thinking. When you talked about how Ariel had siblings while other Disney Princesses didn't, I thought of what also could've been part of the reason for why Triton and Athena wanted to have seven children. In the song "Daddy's Little Angel" from The Little Mermaid Broadway musical, Ursula sang about how she was the youngest of seven sisters, and we learned that she killed her six older sisters out of jealousy. And according to the song, this happened when Triton was still a baby. But if Triton ever found out about his six other sisters and the fact that Ursula killed them, Triton could've subconsciously wanted to make up for the dysfunction between his own sisters and be the best father he could be to his own children. That could've also been why he was so protective of Ariel, because she was the youngest of his seven daughters, and knowing what happened with Ursula, he wanted to prevent Ariel from going down the same path.

I think it is just a way to somehow expand the story and reverse it somehow. Ariel first wanted to be a human and be on land then have her daughter interested in marine life.
Compared to other Disney Princesses, they do not have that kind of concerns or issues in their movies that has to be retold. Are we to expect that Mulan will have a son that has to pretend to be a woman due to some situation?

What about some of the children from Descendants? Most if not all the princesses have at least one child.* Sure they're aren't animated but that seems like a small difference. They are still the same characters.
*Mulan doesn't count because according to the 1st and 2nd movie she is CLEARLY NOT a princess (even after getting married), Disney just chose to market her as such for some silly capitalist reason. I know people, myself included, love that character but that's not the point. NO royal connection = NOT a princess.

    • @CelticStar87
      @CelticStar87 Рік тому

Mulan is considered a princess because of her actions… but she was made part of the Princess franchise to sell merch… that was the whole point of that franchise anyways.
Descendants really doesn’t make much sense when you really think about it. Most of the villains died in their respective movies. And connecting each story in the way that series does, really doesn’t make sense either as all the original stories were of different eras so the kids all being around the same age is a bit far fetched. I can see why they wouldn’t count that.

  • @barbiquearea
    @barbiquearea Рік тому +9

Another reason Triton and Athena had so many kids was because they were trying to have a son. Maybe Atlantica's law mandates only men can inherit the throne, and the royal couple were trying to produce a male heir. However Athena's untimely death killed these plans and Triton was left with only daughters.

Sometime after Belle married her beast he produced it and had a child named Benjamin "Ben" Florian.
Even Cinderella's godmother had a child named Jane.
Cinderella and her prince also had a child named Chad charming Jr.
Snow White and Prince James also known as Prince charming also had a child named Emma swan.
Princess Emma swan also had a child of her own named Henry swan.
Who gave him up for adoption to give him his best plans of finding her again.

Since have girls who were born into royal families or married into royal families had the option not to have babies? At the risk of sounding sexist, I have to point out that such women were expected to ensure the dynasties continued or risk very bad consequences.
More likely is the fact that most fairytales ended when the girls got married, so that's where the movie adaptations ended. The only exception was the Little Mermaid Return to the Sea, which may not have done well enough to convince the studio executives to continue making stories about the princess's children.
Unless you count the Decedents series, which I've never watched.

When done right, a Disney parent can still be relatable and marketable towards it's target audience. With Ariel, I think the main issue surrounding her was making her the "Triton" of the second movie. As a kid who didn't understand Triton just wanting Ariel safe, I really disliked him and initially thought he was going to be the villain. So there's a decent chance others could have seen the second movie and disliked Ariel, too.
On top of this, Disney makes all of their princesses young/youthful to appeal to that same audience. It's a lot easier for them to come up with a story that takes place within the same timeframe of the original movies, and continue to have their princesses go on adventures instead of having kids. Aging up a Disney princess for her to have a kid is extremely risky for Disney to do, and can really ruin the image of that princess if the story/characterization gets fumbled in any way. I can't imagine how different it would be if Disney decided to let Rapunzel have a kid over what actually occurred in Tangled the series.
tl;dr: A majority of the princesses are too young to have kids + it's easier for Disney to make money off the princesses by having them just go on adventures instead of raising a family.

I think Ariel ended up being the only Princess to be a mother is likely because of the script overall. I think the writers were trying to expand the franchise with the sequel by having Ariel being a parent, but after the sequel didn't end getting some good reviews (Despite Return to the Sea being soooo underrated), they likely moved out from having a Disney Princess being a mom.

It's possible both Kiara & Kion are stand-ins for a retconned out Kopa, with Kiara being the eldest child of Simba & Nala (though with a gender flip from being a son to a daughter) & Kion being a son of Simba & Nala who greatly resembles Kopa.

It's simply a matter of when the sequels take place. Logically, the Disney Princesses would HAVE to have children eventually since kingdoms need an heir. Ariel was simply the first and the only one her sequel was about. It should also be noted that Eric's parents are dead, so quickly providing an heir in case anything happened to him and Ariel may have been necessary, while with the other Disney Princess, at least one of the prince's parents was still alive, expect for with Beauty & Beast, but Belle may have needed to learn the ropes of royalty first.

It’s all about the timing of when the sequels were set. The Little Mermaid 2 was the only one set in the timeline that made sense for her to have a kid. Cinderella’s sequels took place directly after the wedding and their plots would not have allowed for a child to make sense. Mulan 2 was about their relationship and they didn’t get married until the end of it. Frozen 2 was still about Elsa and her powers, Anna got engaged at the end of it. If you count The Lion King, Nala had at least one child (sequel based around).
As far as siblings go, Anna and Elsa were sisters. Ariel had six sisters (seven daughters of Triton = seven seas… symbolism). Merida had three brothers. It was not customary in some countries to have more than one child, unless in rural areas because it would have been cheaper than hiring servants or purchasing slaves… also some countries had decrees to limit the number of children a family could have. Also some were born to older parents who probably wouldn’t have had any more kids due to age. Merida had both of her parents. As did Anna and Elsa for much of their lives. Mulan also had both her parents and her grandmother (in the live action she had a sister).
As many plot holes in this fan theory as many of the Disney movies. Still an interesting viewpoint.

I don't think it is because they do not want to have kids. Jasmin just got married in Alladin 3, Mulan in Mulan 2, Anna was just being proposed and Cinderella 2 and 3 were not long after the wedding. But even if Cinderella Do not want to have kids, i can understand.

Well… not quite. That WOULD have been true if Disney had left Star Wars alone. Princess Laia is now a “disney princess” and had a child SO… yeah. And mermaid genetics are rather funny when every sister is literally a different race and look nothing like each other or their parents. No, it’s pretty clear Triton was baby daddy. 😂

5:38 to 6:00 no that's wrong, they did have their parents until they were drowned at Sea when Elsa was 18 and Anna was 15.

You guys forgot about Tiana from the Princess and the Frog. If they ever had a sequel - if the first movie had been better advertised and represented - I am quite sure that within three to four years of a successful restaurant opening, Tiana and Naveen would have had two children by then. And another child on the way. As for Charlotte, she'd be happily married too and with a child. Tiana, Naveen, Charlotte and Charlotte's husband's journey would be centered around the worker's strike in which both best friends realize they have different ideas and views on how to help the sick and the unemployed.
After various fights and legal issues, then we see Ray's light guiding them as he did when he was alive, with his fun quips and energetic vibe he continues the song that both Charlotte and Tiana finish. A solution is found and the friends create a program to help those without health insurance and employment. Then Tiana gets rushed to the hospital where she gives birth to a baby boy. She already has two daughters. She calls him Ray, Prince Ray. Naveen and the others love the sweet nod to Ray. Naveen and Tiana kiss as she holds her baby in her arms. Charlotte and husband, two other friends are there smiling. The other children are in the waiting area playing with a wooden cute frog toy. 🐸 The others have a toy wand 🪄 The screen closes in on the frog and you see a wink. The end.
Now we just need Disney to get their act together and create a second Princess and the Frog movie. 😉 🎥 🎬

The movie itself can represent the friendship trope and realistic friendships. All friends fight and break apart, then they reconcile and come back together. It's about growing up in a difficult time and era, and how to keep yourself true to yourself, keep hopeful, and keep true friends who will be there for you in the bad and good times. But sadly, Disney will never go down this route.

In the movie of The Little Mermaid Athena didn’t actually died , cuz did any of us ever actually seen her falling to her death..???
If NO then don’t actually tell us all that she actually died , even though that she didn’t died.
Then don’t actually say that she died when she didn’t died.
Cuz all we know is is that she could still be alive.

In Ariel’s Beginning, we basically see her get crushed by a ship. In the live action, Triton says humans killed her… or at the very least implies it.

I do believe all the Disney princesses have children they are not the main story they were added later to continue all of their stories from what I have seen every Disney princess is actually a very strong willed woman who can handle whatever life throws at them they are the ones helping their husband's accomplish whatever they set out to do so children come when they are suppose to never count the Disney princesses out of having children most had to do the impossible while finding where they truly belong so anything is truly possible
