I really do love the idea of the 'Si' glasses and it does ring true. I think like all introverted functions, sensing can also be 'subjective' in a way and it is a very interesting way to look at Si doms. We've talked about this before but in my family I had an INFJ father, ENTP mother and ENFJ sister (and an ESTJ brother). I have a feeling that I became very attracted to any forms of positive Si around me as I got older, surrounding myself nearly completely by Si users for a long time. My cousin is an ISTJ. He calls me at the same time on Mondays at 5pm for a relaxed 'chat'. I ignore 90 per cent of his phone calls but it's quite lovely how he doesn't hold it against me, such is the loveliness of many ISTJs, I think.
Oof, I think with all that intuition floating around, I'd also lean into the shelter of responsible ISxJs! Sometimes it's just nice to know that the bills are paid, dinner's ready and the kitchen's been tidied. However, expect dinner conversation to be about details. Lots and lots of detail. Great on your cousin though. That schedule like clockwork is a bit odd, even for someone who craves routine.
Hey there Dulles! Good to catch up with you here. I was offline for a good deal of the summer and now peek-a-booing in again and getting reacclimated.....somewhat and slowly... 🙂 I just came from Pereglines' video and this feels quite complimentary in a way to what she was talking about, touching on SI a bit. I was even saying that my own tendency towards SI a lot of the time feels more prominent. Am thinking of possible ISTJs in my own life and would agree that there could be differences and misunderstandings between us...not an antagonism, but maybe just not quite getting each other. Mentioning ISFJs, I have two friends who seem more that type and we have more of an understanding, even if they may find my own occasional flights of fancy amusing.....they just gently reel my kite in....😊 Lots to consider here as ever. Thanks as always, and hope all is well your way. Don't know how it is there, though am feeling intimations of autumn here and am getting excited! -Carm
Hi Carm, so nice to have you around again! I hope that you had a lovely end to Summer. Yes on ISTJ vs. INFP, not quite getting each other (from experience we work together better than we play together -- and that goes to my own brother, even though we click well as siblings, we move in two different spheres). I bet your ISFJs are absolutely crazy over -- your careful thoughtfulness, depth of knowledge and your creativity. All's well other than that I keep making videos, having second thoughts and not posting them -- and then running out of time to post anything at all. So, more or less the usual. 😉 And yes, there hasn't yet been a tinge of fall yet, but it's obvious now that the days are getting shorter. Soon the hats will come out! Maybe at some point I'll have some short pieces about personal experience with Ne/Ni intuition. I recorded a 30-minute long beast -- but too many things that were not appropriate to say, so now am re-thinking, maybe little bits and pieces, as vignettes...
Rambling and all, this was interesting, pleasant listening. I can't think of anyone in my personal life who might be an ISTJ, but now I'm quite intrigued by the personality and look forward to meeting, observing, and befriending some in the future. Thanks for another highly insightful video. 😄
Si doms are pretty common but they can be hard to distinguish ... they become like what they decide to turn their amazing Si towards. To detect them, it's important to pull back the lens to detect the patterns in how they're saying things, not just what they're saying. That's where I was so happy to bump into this Knight analogy... the 16 types are generally too flattering to some types and don't accurately represent the nature of others. Generic type descriptions sorta need to do better by ISxJs and maybe need to hem in INxPs.
@@allusian_ by hemmed in, for example, I mean the Monk is not apt to pick up the sword or lance for the good of protecting the Court. The Monk sees there are always dragons, hungry people, disease, conflict. Knights are heroic figures in the fight. Monks, Philosophers and Scribes are not. There's a big negative to a spiritual life where things are unavoidably imbued with meaning. Assigned meanings are subjective and temporary -- some get actively culled, others die on the vine, a few bear new fruit (then the fruit spoils, too). It fosters some level of detachment. Even tending to those individuals needing help, an ISFJ or ISTJ would probably be more effective getting a person back on their feet. So by hemmed in, the INxP writeup should have a warning label. If this is your type, expect to spend a lifetime dwelling on things that don't matter, and that very few people will ever know anything about (not that having other people knowing about it helps or matters all that much either. The thoughts seem to need to be brought into existence for their own sake, and you are just the sucker of a vessel that needs to process them.)
@@dulles1969 I saw a fruit gliding around my kitchen over the past few days and didn’t have the sense to do something about it, and today when I went into my kitchen there was a swarm of them. I googled what I could find to deal with them quickly. I settled on an apple cider vinegar with dish soap trap and set it out in the counter. When I returned a few minutes later, there were at least ten gathered on the rim of the bowl, but only one or two had drowned. Fed up, I grabbed a can of Lysol, a lighter and spent the next hour torching them. Can the torch be seen as the sword or lance in this scenario? 🙃✨😉✨😄
@@allusian_ In this scenario you may have been the fire-breathing dragon... at any rate, best not to let an ISTJ see you wielding a makeshift flamethrower in the house...
Seeing them as Knights in a medieval setting actually helped me understand the depth of some ISTJs in my life. Indeed, I find them mythical if you try to abstract their whole being. Then their ideals might reveal themselves somehow but are normally covert. Thoroughly paraphrased and put into words, as usual! :) I read the post afterward, it's really poetic 😅
Someday I will figure how to do justice to ISFJs. It's like, I know it when I see it, but haven't figured out how to distill it into something meaningful across the type...
@@dulles1969 are you familiar with CJ O'Connell through TWFP. Have you been to his channel or seen his typing session? Do you recognize him as an ISFJ? But I'm not sure if putting this idea in your head will pollute your sight.
@@kaleidoscopicvoid Short answer is that I don't know CJ that well and haven't been part of the Chill Island crew. Some people clearly reflect their type. CJ is not obvious that way. I don't see him leading with Fi dom and Ne aux, but that's about all I'll say for sure. For the typing session, apparently he'd gotten no sleep and was exhausted -- watching the video I found it distracting that he had trouble with responses that needed focus & concentration. So yes, it's a cop-out from me.
Yes yes yes. My dad is ISTJ and he has the best pure heart. Also as long as I remember he and my mom both Si dom have always been about "what to do now" and I have always been that kid who couldn't do it because of the feelinggggg:) of course my istj dda has always fed my curiosity as an INFP but he rarely uses my insights. Only as sparks maybe but he never takes me that seriously:)) it's still fun and friendly tho...
It's funny, that same term has come up with ISxJs: "sparks of Ne". Their knowledge when it's something they have experience in is incredible. There's awareness of lateral paths and possibilities when it's necessary -- but too much of that Ne crazy talk. 😉
@@dulles1969 exactly he has this :p face when I talk too much about "everything being related to just end the crazy talk... Thanks Dulles.
Thank you and yes, for folks lucky enough to get really close to ISTJs (like family), they have a lot of similarities to INFPs. I tend to get along with ESTJs even a little bit better because like family, sometimes the relationship can be a little too familiar!
Hmm interesting, I've always said I'd have been a nun in a past life, but mostly to escape the home and childrearing that most historical women would face. I find my istj dad was really paranoid by covid, and is paranoid in general. He really wants to fufill his duty and protect my family financially. He does have that tertiary Fi love that is rare to coax but really tender and fiercely loving. Si is actually a pretty complex and misunderstood function. I always feel very safe and cared for with Si users. I know more isfjs than istjs, but i think their mythological idea of the world and their role in it is pretty similar. As an infp i seem to understand that better than Ni-Se users do. My isfj friend seems to feel like he is my older brother or caretaker and defends me fiercely for that.
We both would've ended up in the faith. 😇 one of my grandmother's life regrets was that I did not join the priesthood (it was not realistic). "Really tender and fiercely loving" is spot on. My dad and brother are both ISTJs, and both have put up with things for the greater good of the family that I would not have done. One of these days I'll figure out ISFJs better, too. Like you I have a lot of experience with the type and admire them. But I can't quite put myself in their shoes to understand how they tick.
12;20 Yeah that isn't intuition as understood in the mbti. For me it is subconscious at best, I 'use' it by ... this sentence, searching for words to describe my pattern, or is it behavior? ... Yeah I made that distinction between the mystical self exploration and the 'scientific' classification.
Yeah, that demo is just free association (Ne tying together Si labels). There's an endless supply of dumb little throwaways. Absurd "possibilities" that's background noise. I think we merge concepts if we extend this to the field of ideas. "Searching for words" in a comment response isn't unusual, but leaps that go outside of expected responses, with a novel observation, and apt (or strained) metaphors. Taking an hour to write a brief response because it's more fun to ponder how this or that might sound ... missing the goal of actually writing back.
