  • Always Board Never Boring would love a copy of Terror in the Dark, the expansion for Advanced Heroquest... so he made one. In this video he runs through a full contents list for this rare expansion, and talks about the process of making his own copy.

    Keen follower of your channel and have found this video in my quest to identify tiles I found in a mystery box of vintage heroquest. Turns out I have a lot of the floor tiles and 3 of the weapon cards! Have only now realised they relate to Advanced Heroquest and not Heroquest Advanced Quest.

      That's very kind of you. I have tinkered with game design in the past, but I honestly don't think I could find the time right now. It takes so much energy to put out three videos a week for the channel, and I would love to do even more videos than that if I could.

      It's my fourth favourite game of all time, and my main hobby game, really. Hunting down the miniatures and period accurate accessories is a big part of the enjoyment for me.

    Great video. I've got a copy with sellotaped box edges because it was so flimsy. I'm guessing they didn't sell many of these because it was towards the tail end of GW's investment in HQ and Advanced was less popular than the original. When I was putting my copies together, I ended up scouring eBay for doors without broken hinges.

      Ha. I did a video on Advanced Heroquest doors a while back. Finding intact examples is always a fun adventure! You're very lucky to have a copy of Terror in the Dark; it's not easy to find in any condition!

    I was one of the people worrying my copy of Terror in the Dark was a bootleg! The corridor tiles definitely aren’t as nice as the ones in the base game, but once you have them laid out on the table and are playing a game they fit in just fine.
    I also didn’t pay those ridiculous prices you had up on screen, although it wasn’t cheap either. Luckily the number of vintage GW games I want to buy aren’t that numerous, so I was ok paying the high price for this expansion. Now the expansions for Warhammer Quest 95 are another thing entirely! 🤣

    • @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring
      @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring  Рік тому

      Glad to hear you managed to pick up a copy without paying the truly crazy prices being asked for the expansion at the moment. Terror in the Dark is actually packed with gameplay content, but the physical components - especially with so many of them being more of the same from the core set - don't justify the prices that the expansion can go for.
      Quest 95 is now definitely in the realms of the most avid collectors and those with deep pockets!

  • @jonathan2950
    @jonathan2950 Рік тому

    With the modge podge, do coat the top, bottom and edges with it, or just the top? I’ve never used it before but will definitely be buying some to undertake my own project for the WHQ95 expansions

    • @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring
      @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring  Рік тому

      The satin mod podge is for the front face. It protects the art and gives it the satin finish. If you coat the sides and bottom you would want to use PVA that dries matte. I don’t coat the bottom because the uncoated card I mount the grey board to matches the card on the base of original AHQ tiles.

  • @goodjessehobbies

      How did you make the room tiles for the WHQ95 expansions? I’m about to do the same. Did you use the same method shown here or something different? And how do they compare to the original room tiles when in use? Sorry for all the questions 😂

    • @goodjessehobbies
      @goodjessehobbies Рік тому

      @@jonathan2950 I printed them out and used permanent glue stick to glue them to chip board, then cut them out with a box cutter and straight edge. As far as where I got digital files, Broheim/whq95 and various google searches. Also I joined Littlemonk's runboard.
      They work fantastic. They arent exact but Ive found that when on the table and covered in models it really doesnt need to be exact.

    At least the Advanced Heroquest paint set had figures and stat's not in the base game, even if they were from other sources. But thoses sort of prices for just a paper and card release is ridiculous!

    • @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring
      @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring  Рік тому

      Yeah, the paint set came with one sprue of the Fantasy Regiments box (the first box of miniatures I ever bought!) and a frame of the skeletons from the Skeleton Army box (the second box of miniatures I ever bought), plus another set of the heroes, which was a really cool addition. GW could have easily thrown in a few more of those sprues in Terror in the Dark, especially the skeletons, which you need for the included campaign. (Funnily enough I have a video about Fantasy Regiments coming up soon.)

      I only wish I magically had £320 floating in my pocket for new miniatures. I've treated myself to a few things recently - which, as always, I will show on the channel at some point - but if I buy anything else right now it will be paint to get through my huge queue of work!

    The floor plans are generic floors GW sold seperately for WHFRP. They were available long before Advanced HQ came out. They are cheaply made. The whole "expansion" was just a half backed money grab.

    • @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring
      @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring  Рік тому

      In my previous video on Advanced Heroquest I talked about how the artwork for the floorplans was all originally from their RPG floorplan sets. They are recolorised and some have had a grid added though, so they aren't just straight reprints. So, in some cases the same art was used in three places - the RPG dungeon rooms, Advanced Heroquest, and Mighty Warriors - but they all have slight differences.
