Loved this video - the tips on keeping the coat flat while bathing surprised me in that I realized I've done that somewhat intuitively. Happy to know it's the right way! Mostly wanted to say like a hairdresser, grooming furbabies is also an art! Your certainly an artist! Thank you for sharing all your tips / videos on grooming!
Great video, Suzanne. I didn't see a single thing that looked 'ruff' at all, and I was looking for it. If I was in your area and if my dogs were small enough, I'd be glad to have you groom my dogs, without hesitation.
Excellent video, Suzanne! This video has great attention to detail with tips on how to achieve the perfect cocker spaniel groom. Thicket looks gorgeous!
I owned 3 Cocker Spaniels over the years, and not one ever had an ear infection. My routine was to use a good quality ear wash after every single bath, fill the ear with the solution, allow the dog to shake it out, then dab it dry. I washed and blow dried my Cockers every 5-7 days as they were kept in full coat. They also always had the top third of the ear clean shaven inside and out. Make sure the ears are healthy before you use ear wash. If your regular vet is not able to get the ears to a healthy state, consider using a veterinary dermatologist.
Great vid! Q: You used the two sided carding tool on the back etc in the beginning, which side was it? Ie the bigger or smaller side? Totally new to this!
I've just found your video ! It's very instructive, thank you. I have a 6m old show cocker puppy (as a pet, not for showing). Her coat has become unbelievably fluffy which looks gorgeous but needs attention ! I've only ever clipped my cockers before, I didn't know about carding. What's the best knife to get to remove the puppy fluff, and is it too soon to do this ?
@@grandestyledoggrooming thank you. I bought an andis rake fine tooth comb. Still plan on buying a carding knife. Which brand carding knife do you recommend?
YAY! Thank you Suzanne! I just got a beautiful one year old jet black show Cocker named Bonnie and I want to learn how to groom myself. I have seen your Cocker video with Go Groomer, but I prefer your calm narration and less intrusive music. The breeder has trained my girl well as she already has great table manners and is used to having her back carded. So I'm off to a good start. If she can look half as good as the absolutely beautiful Thicket, I will be happy!
Suzanne, I am a previous ESS male owner, but it has been many years since I owned a dog that needs grooming. I am purchasing a blue roan cockapoo. Her coat looks rough curly...which videos do I need...cockapoo or cockerspaniel?
I know that it’s difficult. My recommendation is to wash and dry him the day before. Ask them to just trim him. Make sure that he gets groomed regularly and that he gets no mats. I would imagine that the blow dryer is the problem. It usually is with cockers.
I wish i could've begun his life handstripping him,. But there isnt a groomer within 200 miles who did it. Now, at 3, its too late. I still prefer stripping, do he doesnt look like he has a stripe with a skirt down his back. Every time I use vet wrap on my cocker's ears, within a half an hour he's shaken it off. 😱 😵💫😬 I don't know how you do it. I've finally given up and bought a snood. Also, he has a really thick black coat, unlike my chocolate girls. Clipping his face is a nightmare. I use the bravura, which is not as quiet as advertised, and the mini version I'm not skilled enough with a 30# blade not to nick him. My biggest issue is working out small mats and detangles, especially in under his arms where his service vest goes. He hates every brush I've bought. I can't afford Chris Christenson's products, though they're ideal. I just don't have $80 to spare for a de-matting brush. I never had this issue with my cocker girls. It's a battle with him. Suggestions?
This brush will greatly help you: amzn.to/49Yjmhe. The vet wrap is meant to be temporary. I recommend that you don't clip closer than a 10 blade on the face. The Artero Spektra would be a good choice for a clipper for you: amzn.to/3GnK7y1

Great video Suzanne! Very informative and Thicket was the perfect, beautiful model!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I don’t keep mine cut to standard but thanks for this information
Thanks for sharing 😍
Thank you for posting this.
You're welcome. I miss you in the chat.
What is the specific standard coat maintenance (schedule) to make sure Cocker Spaniel does not get an ear infection ?

It was one sided. Two separate tools. The Andis Deshedding Tool. One was regular, the other fine. I used the regular one first. amzn.to/3AaPWiD
Hi
Wonderful for you to post this where are you located?
Tampa

It is never too soon. The Artero Super blade is great.
Can you rake with a mars coat king instead of using a carding knife?
A coat king can cut the hair. It is recommended to use the carding tool.

Hi Suzanne, I don't think I saw where you trimmed the paw pads. What clipper size would you use for that?
30
May I ask what sprayer hose and nozzle you use? Thank you kindly.

your dogs aren't getting ear infections from bathing because your technique is superb
Thank you.
Such a beautiful Cocker.
Yes she is.
Beautiful baby. I have a 13 year old and he gets so upset when I have to have him groomed I am afraid he will have a heart attack

Really appreciate the knowledge on the grooming. Really good tips. a bit ruff on her in my opinion. But otherwise very knowledgeable.
Thanks, I think…
What does that mean 'a bit ruff'? Didn't see any place where Suzanne was rough with the dog.
