What I love most about this channel is that we aren’t being shown a before and after, it’s warts and all, training is hard and not perfect and that’s what you get at Mordor 👏🏼
Great video as always. I have a naughty cocker who you helped me with. I was prob an owner who you thought it would never work out for but I’ve persevered and my cocker is doing so well now. I’ve found a trainer reasonably close to me who trains exactly like you (hooray!) and it’s working really well. I go every 3 weeks and practice between times. Thank you Charlie for personally setting my cocker (and, more importantly, me!!!) on the right path 😀😀 I’d go so far as to say he’s the best and most fun dog I’ve ever owned 🎉
Best video, I've seen. Different dogs, different timing, and getting the right emotions, so not to confuse the dog with my frustration when we get it wrong. Its not easy for us non-professional dog handlers. Thank you for the time and effort you and the team put in to make these videos.
I admit the cocker running off immediatly and a growling Charlie chasing her was hilarious but also super educational :D. I know cocker's ( or other spaniels ) absolutly are not for me and often these videos confirm it but I really enjoy watching these videos. Cocker spaniels are not common in my area but they are usually not able to walk off leash because they don't really come back. I think more people should watch these kinds of videos before getting a super high energy working/hunting dog.
Love and learn from all your videos! This one was especially helpful for me and I couldn't help laughing at her antics. Thank you so much for posting these videos. Looking forward to more naughty cocker escapades!
I love my naughty cocker. He is awesome and I love his naughty side, we live rural and he is a perfect crazy dog that fits with our crazy family. I’d love to train him but I like how he is. Great channel 👍
Well Charlie,, once again you have given me peace of mind,, I thought I was doing not too well with my Cocker dog ,, you are very honest and very helpful,, well done,, 👍🤠👏
Absolutely love this video ! I always tell my clients who have working cockers; "There is no such thing as a naughty dog, but working cockers are definitely still under observation". Thank you for this.
I was explaining to someone today about your videos especially where you say they are like 2 year olds with ADHD.😂 As they think my nearly 2 year old is just a loveable nuttter at times but thanks to your videos charlie. I am no longer the nutter being dragged down the road at break neck speed. You get out what you put in HE HEELS 🎉🎉🎉 he will stick up two fingers to me at times , very 2 fingered in the house when his tired, he has a number of tricks up his fur, opening draws and stealing socks, various things all naughty of course but he knows when I say bed.... off he goes to crate and gets shut in or it would 2 finger time but faster 😂 you do need a sense of humour with cockers, spaniels and my springer, cocker, collie lab mix .... yes I lost my marbles and got a mix of all 4 breeds of nutty dogs 😂😂 without your video's I think I would have been section by now but you have helped me understand their traits bless you charlie. Think I am still sane 😂😂
@ Sorry for my ignorance but do you mean he just needs to spend more time with other dogs? In the park his recall is good when we are on our own but that obviously doesn’t last long in the park and he bolts as soon as he sees another dog. Any help offered is gratefully received🙂
Absolutely love your videos, my little monty ( lab ) loves watching with me, hes a quick learner. And it turns out i am too, but this video is just what i needed. To learn a little more about recall. Thank you
You're both such a treat to watch, thank you for posting. Your efforts and understanding of dog training are most appreciated and highly insightful - a gazillion tail wags to you and future monkeys, I meant puppies in training x :) x
Found this really helpful with some tips I can put into practice with my cheeky girl! She's getting much better and engaging more with me; I'm getting her to hunt rabbit balls etc., but she's still on a longline and I now need to have the confidence and courage to let her off. She's doing great off lead in an enclosed field *except* when she spies the hoards of rabbits the other side of the fence in one corner of the field. We're both a work in progress, but I'm proud of how far she's come. Your videos help me enormously. ❤
brilliant, exactly my thoughts. i love after her effort of misbehaviour and deaf ears, she knew she had misbehaved and sat their beautifully whilst you spoke to camera. i have a brittany and his temperament is similar but not as cheeky.
Lovely video and she seems like a happy dog :). I enjoy seeing the training process and challenges of dogs that are not bred at Mordor. Spaniels in general are great dogs and have the best floppy ears, but to handle their amount of energy is something else 😅. That’s why I have labs, I know I can handle them.
Again a great time watching you Charly struggling with the same things i am. Having people who just don't have the talent reading the dog and don't have the timing. But enjoying those who have. Oh, not all labradors are the same. There are some who are just as naughty as spaniëls, it is also an ingrediënt i like. When you can handle those they become the best. Thanks
I have a 4 year old Cocker. Near the end of the video you mentioned when she is on scent. This is the only time when I do not get an immediate recall. He ignores me until the scent ends - usually when birds are flushed or the squirrel is up a tree. I now view this as natural and have accepted that I have to wait until he has completed his task.
Another good video it’s brilliant that you show the bad as well as the good! Dog training isn’t achieved in seconds takes a long repetitive time. Looking forward to seeing your progress and how you achieve it. I have a black lab male who is from a very long line of working dogs who walks to heal on or off lead he loves to retrieve dummies for me especially a pheasant dokken! However sometimes his ears go back and his eyes go wide open and he won’t listen he’ll run around like a loon from brilliant to nutter in seconds I usually walk away and he calms down and usually follows. 😂😳👍
Absolutely fabulous video again. Been there , done that with my youngest cocker bitch who is just two but she’s been a hard nut to crack. So many times she’s put two pads up to me and I’ve torn my hair out. We are getting there but she is moody and has a mind of her own but I just work with what she is on the day and progress is evident thank goodness. Keep doing what you’re doing it’s so real, common sense and works
We've had 3 springers and now a sprocker. Although our sprocker is from working stock on both sides he's been the easiest to train, although we haven't worked him or our previous dogs. Is it us, more confident and recognising bad habits before they start, or is it the dog? Who knows. I've seen the problems people have had with cockers and I always say a prayer that we never got one. Very good video and very entertaining. I've got to know how you get on with Brecken.
She's a great little hunter, her movements have purpose. I have a Gordon Setter now after having had Labs and GSDs. What it means to be a Gordon is completely opposite for a German Shepherd. My Gordon is the naughtiest, most destructive, biggest baby and least trainable dog I've ever known. But he is also by far the best, most effective hunting dog. I can work well with him from a distance but I admit the close work is exhausting.
Excellent video, learned such a lot from your videos. This little Cockerspaniel Girl reminds me very much of my young border collie girl 😅 which I trained exactly the same way, and it turned out very nice. She is 2,5 y now and can run without leash and is just a joy. Lot of work, but totally worth it. Than people often say, yeah, sure, it’s a Border collie, that s all easy to train them 😬 Nooo, it‘s not, it‘s taking time and efffort every single day 😉 most people don‘t like to hear that
Thank you!! I’ve got a cocker and a sprocker and this is so helpful! Can you please talk about how to stop the jumping up (or just calming them down) and also how to get out the front door calmly? Mine choke themselves on the lead before I even get out the door to start training them so I’m failing at the first hurdle. I’m really trying but it’s slow progress.
I think your efforts are amazing, I also think a cocker or springer is simply not suitable for the average owner living in town, it's like taking a Ferrari off road, they are farm dogs proper working dogs. Why do people not realise they are bred for work simply aren't pets except for someone wanting a Tasmanian devil. Yes one of my five dog family is a springer. And yes I live on a farm.
enjoy your videos very much in in the states. i have a problem teaching heel. never have been able to get my cockers to off leash heel . i am able to do my setters. any ideas?
A pitty I don’t live n the same country., would love to see how my munsterlander would behave with you and would’ve been training with you i think.. any experience with dogs that don’t get out if the water?
i know that feeling weve 1 brilliant cocker id clone him if i could an the other is at the other end lets just say b on going for the rest of his life for ever trainning 😂
sometimes its just an itchy ear my cocker has a really furry inner ear and she itches her ears because of that but its a good thing to check when they do start scratching their ears a lot to make sure its not an ear infection
I would be so worried with people paying for this. You can clearly see he has no control of the dog, as its not been taught recall correctly and its just running around. Even worse hes running after the dog making it a game and reinforcing the bad behaviour. Even at the start when we was walking and saying heel when the dog clearly doesn't know what heel means. Lastly when hes saying to people that they wont be able to train and cope with having the dog is extremely worrying. A good trainer can train any dog and it just shows they dont have the knowledge or skills to train a dog. The fact you are blaming the owner for not teaching body language is just pathetic. You dont need to teach body language. You teach recall. Watching this is like watching an amateur dog trainer try and train a dog. I feel so sorry for people paying money. Theres still more problems i didn't even list
and we should take your word for it i mean where is your videos proving your way is right first he does have control of her when shes off leash they are in a fenced in area to be off leash. second every dog is different and sometimes you have to make it a game or they aren't going to come back i wish my cocker would be that obedient off leash. mine puts nose to ground and takes off
I did not want to react to your msg but i am worried for you when you do not understand what Charley trying to say. Having trained 100 + dog owners i exactly knows what he means. And yes I have refused to train dog owners who just did not understand this. Its what we call "bringing water to the sea" or "throwing pearls to pigs".😜
@hansdog4live716 Why would you refuse to help a dog when you don't need body language. No other trainer teaches this. All you need is good recall which he clearly doesn't have and runs after the dog. The opposite of what you should do
@@redschafer7804 he has no control because the dog isn't listening to him when he says come back. Also making it a game makes the dog not want to come back. You need to make the dog want to come to you, not run away

He was chasing her and making her think it's a game and reinforcing the bad behaviour. One of the worst things you can do as a dog trainer.
I like seeing you let the little dog hunt along being a dog, as long as she is responsive and not too far away.
