I think, this cocker lines are good for my shih Tzu Caviler. Need help on the bib, and skirt, hair thin no under coat, legs can't be tubes, to thin, but long.
My Cocker has Anxiety and groomers have such a hard time with him. I decided to try grooming him myself using your instructions. It took me hours to groom him, but I'm glad I did. Man that looks great, a lot better than my cuts on my cockers I just have always shaved them in the summer months and let the look like Wooley mammoths in the winter. I have raised this breed for 30 years they are in my opinion the best breed . We have other breeds of dogs but my loyal spaniels never have let me down. Great hunting, guard dog, family dog great companions I just love em. Thanks for you hard work.
That is awesome! I love the breed too-very friendly, loving and a ton of fun to hike with. They have an outstanding nose on them to for flushing small game. I enjoy hearing the praise you have for this breed because around here (central Pennsylvania) Breeders have ruined the cocker spaniel by bad breeding resulting in an abundance of health, temperament and incorrect confirmation problems. Where are you located? I would love to do a special episode on this breed?
First time viewer, love your techniques. Need more groomers like you. Learning how to groom as no one wants to cut my senior dogs hair. They say she is too old. Hope they never get old! Thanks fir great instructions/demo.
Hi Tracy. I'm a dog groomer but I'm not associated with this channel: please take the following as just my own experince, not representative of this channel. There's a few reasons a groomer might say a dog is 'too old' for this or that aspect of grooming, but usually it would be a case of 'well, we will prioritise comfort over aesthetics because of health issues (eg, stiff joints)' or 'we might have to do half the groom one day and the rest of the groom a couple of days later so we're not pushing the dog too hard'. If it's a large double-coated dog, for example, they might not be able to stand up long enough to be brushed out after having endured the bath and blow dry; or for a small or medium dog who gets their body clippered, the groomer might have felt that it isn't possible to lift and manipulate their legs safely and comfortably, or might have identified a few specific health issues that would be better handled by a vet. In any of these cases though, the groomer ought to have communicated their specific concerns to you, and they should be clear about what they can and cannot do with this dog and why. If there are health issues that a vet needs to deal with, or behavioural concerns that the owner can work on, the groomer ought to make those very clear. I have occasionally recommended a senior dog be groomed at a salon attached to a vet, when I'm worried about heart or epilepsy or seizures, so that there can be a vet nurse and vet ready to hand in the case of emergency. But usually I prefer to talk to the owner about the dog's individual health needs and how I (since I already have a positive relationship with the dog!) can work to accommodate those issues within the groom - even if it means the groom isn't perfect from the point of view of professional pride. Comfort and happiness are the most important things for older doggos!
@@whitmerule2753 I understand; however each pet should be individually assessed. My baby is blind and deaf, she is not medically ill. No history, just old. Unfortunately they actually said, they were afraid she would die on the table due to her age.

Wow, I have been watching one after another in how to groom my two Cocker Spaniels both are Buff and from the same awesome Cocker Spaniel Kennel in Montana. I have been grooming my Cocker Spaniels before this year, but it was pretty easy due to skin issues etc. it was basically a 10 blade all over. My two girls now are 22 weeks and 11 weeks and I need some help so here I am. The Breeder that I was lucky enough to find, shows Cocker Spaniels and starts grooming them at 8 weeks old. I'm taking your video's one at a time and trying my lucky at grooming Cassie the older of the two. I seem to have a problem with getting the face trimmed right as I want her eye lashes but afraid of being too close with the rest of her face especially coming down between the eyes and trimming under the eyes. She is still teething, so she has the runny eyes, and everything keeps gathering below the eye and nose no matter how many times I wipe her eyes daily. Do you have an email I could send you a few pictures of what I am talking about? She is a beautiful Cocker Spaniel and the only one of the litter that no one wanted for a show dog because of her being petite all over. I love her she is so regal just raising her head and looking at you with those dark brown eyes. I would love any feedback you could give me on grooming her and her little sister (not really blood line wise but from same Kennel) who needs to be started on grooming. Thank you for your time. Loved the video! Your compassion for what you do really shows! I love the cocker spaniel breed, and have had a least one since 1992 - even had four at one time! I have groomed myself, but I've never felt comfortable with the underneath, legs, or feet. I had no problem with the back, butt, head, and ears. I also felt like I didn't have the necessary tools. I'd like to start grooming my girl, Harley, myself. I no longer have any tools, but plan to start purchasing. I'm looking forward to learning from you!

Hi, just found this video. i have a cocka/Jack, she has a very simular coat to this spaniel, she's 14mnths old. she is groomed by a groomer regularly but she has the crest on her head, doesn't look like a spaniels and it always sticks up. I'm scared to cut her myself. I don't know what to do with her crest, it just looks awful. any advice would be much appreciated. Think i might try to cut heryself at some point. Thank you for this video x
Looks beautiful! I just got my fist cocker from my mom and can't wait to groom him. How does the sanitation cut work for males to keep his fur clean from urine while maintaining the tuck up? Or is the tuck up sacrificed a bit when it pertains to the male sanitary cut? This is my fist dog that will need extensive grooming like this. All my past dogs have been short hair so this is a new one for me

What do you suggest to start them (cockers) as a pup? Like at 8-10 weeks to start getting them ready as they get older and need more trimming work etc? Thanks so much in advance!
I have a working cocker spaniel and I groomed recently for the first time. I clipped her hair going WITH the grain. She was left with all these lines all over her! It was not a good look. Should I have clipped against the grain? Thank you and I am continuously learning so much from your channel :)
Fantastic video.Thank you for all the advice.I have a Cocker and your video gave me a lot of tricks and tips.Could you please tell me why you washed the dog first ?After the haircut he will have all these little hairs. Please explain.Thank you
Great question:) I wash, brush and fluffy dry most every dog breed before any clipper work. It removes all dander, dead coat and grime from the skin and coat to produce better, smooth-clipper work as well as precise scissor finish work. I use a hair vac system so hair clippings are collected when clipping but if I didn't use that system, the dogs shake immediately upon grooming completion which rids the coat of the tiny hair fragments. I've groomed dogs for many years with and without a hair vac system and this has always been my procedure to produce a professional look. Tip: you can also turn a force dryer on low and whisk away hair clippings at the end of the grooming session too:) Hope this helps❤️

I owned a black cocker spaniel for nearly 16 years, and she always had skin issues - even when professionally groomed. I'm getting another pup next week and would like to groom her myself. At what age should I start? Should I start her with a professional first so that if I chicken out, she has a higher sense of comfort with a stranger? Also, what tools should I purchase; I already own a grooming arm. Thanks so much. I would love to be able to do the grooming myself this time around.
Yes it is :) and maybe check out my video on deshedding tools (it’s a recent video) will show you how to remove the undercoat in the pattern set easily in the tub before carding down the coat after drying.

@@GoGroomer yes ideally short working style , mine doesn’t have the thickest coat so I wanted to know if this shaping will still work on her? learning to groom myself because moneys tight x
Just curious, why do you use the snap on combs as opposed to say a 3F or 4F, etc... I currently have an Oster A5 Turbo clipper (which I hate) but on Wednesday I have the Wahl KM10 coming! I’m holding off on grooming my two Havanese girls till then. The blades I own are 40, 30, 10, 3F and 4F. I also have a couple of sets of snap on combs but they are the plastic ones, not stainless.
Congrats on getting the Wahl KM 10...You will love it:) You can use a 3F or 4F on the head instead of the snap on combs. I think the length is too short for the head that''s why I prefer the snap on combs...they leave more length and I like the way they cut:)It is a personal preference though my friend. Happy Trimming on Wednesday:)

How do you groom ears in a Cocker who may be prone to infections? Just got a Cocker rescue, and his poor ears are so inflamed and yeasty. Going to the vet and I body clipped him because he was pretty solid matting. But for future grooming?
shave the inside of the ear as show in this video with a #10 blade and clean the ears every week with a pet safe, gentle ear cleaner and cotton ball. When you bath your dog put cotton balls in the ear hole to prevent water from entering the ear. This should help tremendously.
@@GoGroomer thanks! I didn't clip in the ears as much, too nervous and he's too tender, but I did carefully shave the ear leather down. I figure the two of us can work on getting his ears clean once this round of infection is cleared up.
Aren’t coat kings super bad for the coat? Essentially cutting through the coat rather than pulling out loose under coat from the root? I’m so surprised to see you recommend one.
I'm grooming an elderly spaniel mix, he wouldn't let me clip his nails, he got anxious around scissors, and he is glaring at my clippers. I'm doing this groom as a favor and he's just giving me hell. They requested this trim specially and I've never done it before.

Thank you for such a helpful video. Love your commentary. Do you think thinning sheers are a must-have for grooming our pet cocker spaniel?
Thanks:) you can certainly do your pet grooming with a straight shear, thinning shears just make it look a little more flawless💕
My Bruno, if full breed Cocker Spaniel, he’s 7 months. Recommend for me to do on his first haircut as far as keeping him calm.
Thanks for these vids
My pleasure!
@@GoGroomer Thank you so much for the explanation. I understand it better now.Next time i will try your technique. You have many years of experience that is why i asked, because I always wondered, but now it makes sense.Thank you again
Thank you for this! For the pad trim do you use a guard at all or no? Thanks!
Not for pads of feet. 10, 15, or 30 blade only.
Why do the eyelashes need to be cut? Thank you for sharing your experience 🎉
You are a excellent groomer I used to do some grooming but I have a little arthritis in my hands now but I can tell you are a professional groomer how can I make sure I find your videos all the time what is your name and how do I get to your videos and you ever do any live videos I have a Cairn terrier that's part standard weenie dog and she's got a thin double coat and she shakes a lot and gets hair all over what do you suggest I use on her please
Thank you!
You're welcome!
What kind of conditioner do you use on the cocker spaniels. What are your recommendations for trimming around the male genitalia
Hi Amy, can you please clarify for me, is this the same for both the English and American Cockers?
Yes it is :) and maybe check out my video on deshedding tools (it’s a recent video) will show you how to remove the undercoat in the pattern set easily in the tub before carding down the coat after drying.
Super!
Where can I get a whal 7 blade? they are all listed as 7f. I have a almost 5 year old male, and would like to do this to mine...right now, it is pretty much by hand scissors...lol i don't make him look bad, just would like it more finished looking ;) thank you!
7 and 7F are the same. Just don’t use the 7 skip tooth blade.
I don't see the undercoat grooming tool listed in any of the links.Or is it called by another name

Ok, its out of stock! @@GoGroomer
Hi my name is Carla I already left one comment and question I just bought a pair of Andis clippers at Walmart and I need to know what size of extension I need to put on what size of comb to do my Cairn terrier could you give me some tips on a Cairn terrier and how to keep them from shedding so much in that please and let me know how to get to your videos I want to watch only your videos please and thank you
can you suggest another thinning shear that would be just as good, as I cannot afford 269.00 for the thinning shears?
Unfortunately, there is not another equal option for less money.
Great video. If she had a tail would you flag shape it? and how long between grooms? Thanks.
Kazanne thank you 😊 great question! yes, if Indy had a tail, I would flag it like a golden retriever because they are sporting breeds. I groom her every 6 weeks and her mom brushes her often at home👍🏻
Hi, this is a awesome video. I was curious what is the length of the 7f back wards. Is it more like a 8 1/2 length?
Thank you:) 7 in reverse is around a 9 blade:)
Thank you
Hi, do you have a video on grooming a worker cocker spaniel ?
Do you mean short sporting trim? Or carded coat?
Good morning Amy! Could you demo a Maltese Shih Tzu?
Thank you!
I will try!
If you don’t have a 7 blade. What size guard can you use? If possible
Can you recommend another thinning shear that’s not quite as expensive as a kenchi? 😊
The Kenchii Love series of shears are very affordable and good. That is about as cheap as you can go without compromising your work.
Watched full video from Gulf.
thanks for watching!
I have a cocker spaniel how do you remove tangle hair his is very tangled can you make a video About it ? Love this video

Hi what kind of grooming machine can get for cocker spaniels I have 3 dogs and I grooming them
Go to groomer’s choice.com. They have many options if you are in the United States
Hi, may I ask what size of the thinning shear to use on Cocker Spaniel?
When you say 7 Blade are you meaning 7F or the 7 skip tooth blade?
7F never skip tooth.
Thank you
How do you groom ears in a Cocker who may be prone to infections?
You used a 7f for the back. What blade would I use with a Wahl Arco clipper?
You could use the 10 blade setting but I feel that is too short. That is the longest setting on the arco.
Does Cocker Spaniel fur get thicker then that or is that all the fur it's going to grow?
It keeps growing:)
Woderful
😊💖
How do you do a kennel cut on a cocker spaniel
7 blade all over.
I'm wanting to get a cocker and want one that looks like this. I wonder if it's an American or English.
This one is an American Cocker mix actually:) She resembles an American more than and English though❤️
@@GoGroomer What is she mixed with. Thanks for replying to me.
And she’s fine
You cut the skirt off with the tuckup.
WRONG For a cocker.
Schnauzer ok.
It's a pet trim. More conducive to an active dog.
It will keep growing, and they will eventually look like Chewbacca.
looks like the "coat king" causes pain.
