It is used mainly as a macguffin, so you're right, basically a huge event somehow is insignificant enough that people just get back to whatever they were doing like nothing changed (showcased in this movie at least). @@theendofit It should be talked about a lot more, people disappeared for 5 years and came back, that would've caused some economic damage and a lot of lasting effects. There would be a lot of protest on whether or not blipped people should take back their property they owned 5 years ago. Many of the blipped people would be forced to live on the streets because the house they once lived in is now occupied.

His Spider Sense doesn't work on people that he trusts, like friends and family, which is why he couldn't catch what aunt may sent him. Also why he didn't sense that she was watching him undress while still suited in the end of the first movie. Love that little detail.

On top of that, though the Spider Sense does tell him about incoming danger, it's his job to interpret said danger and react accordingly. This is why in some media, like the Mediocre Ultimate Spiderman cartoon, he eats a magic hotdog that turns him into a pig because he thinks his Spider Sense is telling him that Hot Dogs are bad for him, implying that any time he eats bad food, it triggers and lets him know to not eat trash xD. That could also be why Garfield didn't avoid said bread.

He was having an affair and wasn't at work but he was too busy with his mistress. They were unaware of what was happening at WTC. When the towers were hit or came down, his wife rang to see if he was ok. He answered he was 'ok and safe at work' but the towers were down. That's when she knew he was lying and caught him out.

People who aren't teachers don't understand this.
No matter how irritated you might get at times, you do what you have to do to keep your kids safe.
I used to teach in deeply rural California (15 miles up in the mountains from the school to the closest town, which was 5, 000 people) and I had to deal with rattlesnakes, broken bones with the ambulance 75 minutes away, and a frigging mountain lion getting curious about all the little people shaped hors d'oeuvres running around. But you do it because they're kids and their parents trust you to take care of them.
Except for the kid who stabbed me with a pen. If he'd been at the mountain lion incident, I'd have thrown him at the tree it was in and used the distraction to get everybody else inside.

The only reason the blip was written as 5 years was for Tony Stark's daughter. That said, 5 years is just waaay too long for everything to return to normal. People would return to a dysfunctional society of abandoned structures, and mass famine would ensue without a functional supply chain and farming industry. Also, would blipped people take back their old jobs? Last, it would be very strange adding 5 years difference to relationships. The blipped people would be disappointed that their significant other aged and maybe even moved on. In summary, this should've been 1 year tops.
