@@Jack_MxM I have a different opinion. I wish they would do a remake for Ages and Seasons in the Link's Awakening Remake format (or something close to it), also wish they add the 3rd Oracle game as a part of the Remake. It would be crazy!
@@MrOuenben Had it been finished, the originally proposed idea was for the Courage game to be pretty mucha direct remake of the Original LoZ for NES with the director’s design philosophy, and would have focused on exploration and narrative the way Seasons/Power focused on combat and execution challenges and Ages/Wisdom focused on mindbending puzzles. But they figured out pretty early that creating a password system that worked to link 3 games would have been a logistical nightmare on the Gameboy Color, and since that was kinda the entire point, they just took some of the ideas they had for that third game and shuffled them into Seasons and Ages. Happened early enough in development that if they wanted to complete the trilogy now, they’d need to just make a new game from scratch in the same engine they used for remaking the others…which I’d love to see.
I sincerely don't know how Oracle of Seasons and Ages aren't more popular. Vastly available through emulation, amazing game design, a lot of content, being a Zelda game... I love this, played 100% of both games (with all rings) in the 3DS Virtual Console. I recommend they to every Zelda fan I know. Thank you for the amazing video!
I... can't agree regarding dungeon design. Honestly, did we play the same games? It's like you looked at it and came to the exact opposite conclusion. Oracle of Ages' dungeons are complicated and fucking rad, they remind me of Majora's Mask. Absolutely incredible designs, where you'd mess with the whole dungeons and affect things within it. Like, they unarguably have themes and unique identities in them, it's kind of why they're so beloved among those who have played them... Edit: Like the dungeon you have to deal with in the past AND present to complete both halves. Or the dungeon where you have to manipulate four different crystals to move between the different floors of sand. Or the one where it's the four elements, and you have to beat each elemental trial to get the necessary keys to proceed to the final areas. Or a DUPLICATE VERSION OF THE WATER DUNGEON where you have to raise and lower the jabu jabu's water levels! Or the one where you have to cool certain areas of lava to get around, and switch-hook things onto certain places.
I know right? It's almost as if he hates them solely for not being "focused mostly on combat" like the dungeons in Seasons were. Seriously, the most complex puzzles you ever needed to think about in Seasons were just platforming challenges the rest were either one room wonders or "enter room, kill all enemies, rinse and repeat", which implies significantly more "creative fatigue" than the devious brilliance that was the puzzles in Ages' dungeons.
These were my first video games way back when I played on my mom’s save file because I was all of 4 or 5 at the time. Oracle of ages was amazing, but I always got stuck on the Goron ridge like the NPCs weren't responding to anything. I thought it was a glitch, but also I could've done something wrong too

I'm really glad that someone is going through all these games making really good videos, I played every Zelda game last year, and it's hard to find people who have played some of the more "obscure" ones to hear opinions on.
Rebecca Tripp is an amazing musician. It's cool to see you using her music. 2 artists collabing in any way is nice to see. And I love the oracle games. I really enjoy all the gameboy zelda games.
These and Wind Waker... I straight up love and adore. I'm glad more people like Wind Waker these days but Ages and Seasons I constantly talk about how good they are 😸 and seriously I meet next to nobody who have actually played them.
I got the games mostly because I had almost all the other Zeldas and thought 'What the heck, they're on Virtual Console'. Very glad I made that choice, they're now some of my favourites.
The Oracle games hold a hefty dose of nostalgia in my book. Seasons had the best dungeons and bosses whereas Ages had the best story and characters. We can only hope that Nintendo and Grezzo are remaking them on Switch as we speak right now
I say this in the best way possible; this video works SO well at 1.25× speed! Actually, even 2× speed is pretty valid here, and I don't say this in insult either, it truly takes a good sense of verbal delivery and the subject at hand to still be understandable or enhanced by faster speeds. Also good video btw
These games are hands down my favorite Zelda titles. I would beat them every summer, sometimes again and again, since the linked quest can continue on to the Triforce quest. Did you know there's not one, but at least two references to these games in Undertale? There's a chasm a blue chicken takes you across very strenuously, and a table with "A powerful-looking bracelet" on it, before revealing "Oh, it's just a croissant." There's a reason these games are so beloved by its fans, and it's no coincidence that BOTW is such a hit with its director coming from them. It's only a shame that Nintendo doesn't give them any recognition.
another excellent retrospective, and definitely the best ive ever seen someone articulate what really makes these games feel different from links awakening. ive played through all three multiple times but had never really been able to put my finger on just how much more demanding the oracle games are on your memory/spatial aptitude...they really are special in how much closer they get to the original zelda, especially compared to every other handheld game in the series
I have barely given these games any thought at all since I played them as a kid in the early 00's. Watching this footage, I'm shocked how much of it I somehow still remember and how positive these memories are.
Memories you just unlocked: 1. I was OBSESSED with the Goron Dance Hall in Oracle of Ages. I would start up my Gameboy JUST to play it over and over. 2. mOOOOOOSH. I loved that dude. 3. I would make up lil dances by jumping onto the tree stumps in Oracle of Seasons and landing on different sides of it. It was a lot of dumb fun haha 4. Turning my volume all the way down whenever I had to use that godforsaken magnetic tool :,)
It's amazing to me that more people don't know about these games - they were so good! + the items you got from linking the games together were all pretty cool and felt like real rewards for going to all the trouble.
I knew I heard your voice before and damn am I glad to have watched the entire video. I adore these games and hope that they are remade or at least in a 2D collection for Zelda's anniversary. They are what made me fall in love with the series, together with Majora's Mask. But I couldn't play it consistently at home because I didn't have a N64 back then and only a GBC. Damn, the memories, My stupidity not realising that I could jump down the chimney to get the shovel before the 2nd Dungeon in Seasons... And the excitement when I got Ages for Christmas after putting Seasons in the back-burner because of that block. Finished Ages before I found a gaming magazine a cousin had with the solution to it. Still love both games to bits.
On the topic of music, I actually use the credits and staff roll song from ages as my morning alarm sometimes. Because if hire obnoxiously Loud it is, it essentially scares me awake
These are forever some of my favorite games of all time. Some soundtracks suck, but there's quite a few I really liked. There's _so much_ packed into each cartridge, I'm glad to see so many others appreciating them.
My brother just happened to buy both games at the same time that I bought my Gameboy Advance SP, and I couldn’t believe how fun and wonderful both games were! I’ve played the shit out of them, probably 10 times through by now and they still hold up! I even got into pixel art because one of my classes was so boring that I downloaded MS Paint and re-colored a bunch of sprites from both games, so thank you for doing a video on these hidden gems, they’re my favorite games of all time!
I'm normally a big puzzles guy, but I loved Seasons' overworld so much; the whole thing was like a puzzle. The boss fights were much more fun, too. Ages was great on GBC, and I think I might've played it twice, but I honestly enjoyed Seasons even more. They're both great, of course, and I'd love to see a Switch remake using assets from the Link's Awakening version.
My favorite Zelda games of all time and my introduction to the series. I dabbled with link’s awakening but oracle of seasons made me fall inlove with the series. Imagine my surprise when I find out that the game that made me fall inlove with Zelda again BOTW was directed by the man who made my childhood great with seasons. Tysm for this
Link's Awakening was the game that introduced me to Legend of Zelda and Oracle of Ages and Seasons made sure I never said goodbye. I purchased my own Gameboy Advance as well as both games with my graduation money. I absolutely loved the changing seasons and ages. It was such a neat puzzle to solve and I had to have more. Years later and every Zelda game I could find I'm a stone cold Zelda junkie, always looking for my next puzzle fix.
NGL I actually liked the music in the game. They clearly wanted the dungeons to feel dangerous, and discordant tones do an incredible job of hammering that feeling home.
For whatever reason me and my brother both wound up with copies of Ages when we were kids. I spent the next decade looking for Seasons at garage sales and flea markets and never found it; I never had the privilege of playing it until the remaster on the DS! All in all; I love the Oracle games. The Game Boy era Zelda’s will always be my favorites. I hope they remake them!
Truthfully? I could watch you play through these games casually and have a blast. Heck, I might even whip out my Gameboy advanced and actually try to beat the games again. My brain always had a stroke (I was like, 13 at the time) whenever I'd try to play these games, so I never got around to beating them. Heck, never even made it to the first dungeon. Still though, that intro cutscene is nostalgic for me, since these games are probably among the first Zelda games I ever got around to playing, besides A Link To The Past, which WAS my first one on the gameboy. Anyway, sorry for rambling, but the way you made this video was really fun and fresh. Heck, I'mma subscribe. Thanks for the effort, man

Those games hold so much mistery and magic to me. When playing 2D games like these ones, there's so much left to the imagination. Tarm Ruins and it's song are forever carved in my memory. Thanks for talking about this games.
They need to remake them with the link's awakening remake engine, they can change the art and still use the engine
Make them a 2-in-1 and maybe compete the third one for a 3-in-1
@@firebirdstark Originally there was a third one planned but was scrapped due to time limitations.
I also find the artstyle of the LA remake perfect for those games.
@@firebirdstark Only if Nintendo wants to print money.
@@FelixS. I think that chibi artstyle was supposed to respresent his dream, along with the macro effect around the screen giving everything a toy-like appearance. Before he sleeps and when he wakes up, everything looks anime and the music is more orchestral sounding. So I don't think it would make sense to reuse that games artstyle again for Oracle remakes.
@@Jack_MxM I have a different opinion. The original GB also used anime artstyle in the beginning and the end as well as the snes iteration (in the booklet at least). The game graphics were due to technical limitations though and the style they chose for the LA remake is a mere callback to those graphics but with a twist. I don’t think it is supposed to represent anything lore wise it is just an artistic way to transfer LA into a truthful modern interpretation.
I've only just finally got around to the 2D Zeldas, as a kid I played a tiny bit of Minish Cap, but i was a dumb kid and was like "no ocarina is better", but fucking hell Link's Awakening and the Oracle games are so good
Ocarina is better but these games are great

You're my favorite youtuber. I wish you breakthrough success because you deserve it, dude. Your DKC music video is the best thing I've watched in YEARS on this site.
Thank you :)
No problem dude. I’m glad vinny introduced me to ya.
@@LiamTriforce you're awesome!
I love this duology SO much. The rings were one of my fav items. Also, I prefer Ages over Seasons. Nayru best Goddess
I wish they would do a remake for Ages and Seasons in the Link's Awakening Remake format (or something close to it), also wish they add the 3rd Oracle game as a part of the Remake.
It would be crazy!
What? There was a third zelda oracle game? What's it called
@@Humble-iq5ue It got cancelled during development. The trio were meant to be called Mystical seed of power/courage/wisdom based on the triforce.
Yep, I'm glad I snagged them off the e-shop just before it closed.
And now we have them on the switch!!! I'm so excited to play them, I never got around to it on my DS but I want to try to finish them on my switch now
Tarm Ruins is easily the best thing in Seasons, and I always loved its music and cozy vibes.
These games (along with links awakening and the minsh cap) are my favorite zelda games. Thank you for covering this awesome duo!
Minish Cap and the Oracle games have forever been tied for my all time favorites in the TLOZ series.
I... can't agree regarding dungeon design.
Which one is the one with the four elements?
Oracle of Seasons was the game that introduced me to the Legend of Zelda franchise. Naturally, it wasn't long before I got Oracle of Ages as well.
Same
Okay, but Din was top tier waifu. 10 year old me was all kinds of yes about that character. I had a massive crush.
These were my first video games way back when I played on my mom’s save file because I was all of 4 or 5 at the time. I will forever love Din and Nayru from these games and when I think of the song of storms I always think of that man next to the windmill. I’m so happy to find somebody talking about games so important to me.
"what little outspoken fans the Oracle games have are passionate, if you can find one"
That's me, I'm the outspoken Oracle fan. Combined, these are probably my favorite Zelda game. They're the only Zelda game I've done a randomizer for
So excited to see this video! First time stumbling onto the channel, but Oracle of Ages is my favourite Zelda game, and it's so underappreciated!
The Tarm Ruins... I remember being 10 and wondering what was behind those gates, and after beating the game I would go back there and wander around aimlessly listening to the music. You totally got me with your love letter to the Ruins. Thanks for making this video and showcasing them to the world.
I think you're the only channel I subscribe to that I don't have to watch on 1.25x speed. Thank you for not wasting our time. When you make a 1.5hr video, it's all content and no fluff.
It was the Summer of 2002 and my best friend had Oracle of Ages and I had Oracle of Seasons. I watched him play, and he watched me play, and then we linked the games. I later on played the other Oracle game myself. This summer is still on my mind. I remember it vividly.
I loved these games. They were a lot of fun and memorable. Oracle of seasons i liked the most. The seasons and the Subrosians were awesome. Oracle of ages was amazing, but I always got stuck on the Goron ridge like the NPCs weren't responding to anything. I thought it was a glitch, but also I could've done something wrong too
I'm glad I found this channel. I love your utter passion for games, and not just appreciating the big things... but really just finding joy in every aspect of a game you possibly can. Even with something like Sonic R.
I fell in love with both of these as a kid. They really need to be remastered. They're straight up gems.
Fun fact, I was watching this late at night and ended up falling asleep at some point, but that Crown Dungeon music at 23:58 JOLTED me awake. That freaking music, I remember always muting the game everytime I replayed Ages in my youth. At least dungeons 4 and 6 had great music.
I still love the Oracle games, they're peak 2D Zelda fun imo
this was such a beautiful video. you sound so joyous and happy talking about it and thats just so dang tremendous. great vid, great music.
Worth every penny as a kid and as an adult on my DS. These were my 1st intro into anything Zelda
Oh my gosh. These are my favorite handheld Zelda games. Thank you for covering this. I'm glad to have found your channel!
"Why would you want to take notes while you're playing a video game"
Me: -glancing over at a stack of notebooks each having the name of a single game draped across the front- 😅
These are two of my absolute favorites
Beautiful custom thumbnail art on this one man. I'd love to hear you talk more about the Zelda Manga! Oracle of ages and the 4 swords books are definitely my favorite of the bunch.
Oracle of Ages if my favorite 2D Zelda game. Loved the dungeons, and I thought it was the only Zelda game without pacing issues.
I loved the Oracle games. They are some of my favorite 2D Zelda’s along side Link to the Past/Between Worlds
I'm really glad that someone is going through all these games making really good videos, I played every Zelda game last year, and it's hard to find people who have played some of the more "obscure" ones to hear opinions on.
Absolutely definitely underrated and never brought up or discussed in any videos or podcasts that talk about either the timelines or characters
Didn’t even wait to like this video 😂 seasons will always have a place in my nostalgic heart 😎
For me too Omni!
The greatest legend of zelda game of all time. Love these games.
I like the Oracle games. I got Ages while my cousin got Seasons. I hope that they do the Link's Awakening Switch treatment on them.
Both these games are easily A tier Zelda games, idk why they aren’t acknowledged more by fans
Rebecca Tripp is an amazing musician. It's cool to see you using her music. 2 artists collabing in any way is nice to see. And I love the oracle games. I really enjoy all the gameboy zelda games.
Thank you for talking about this
Even though I never played the Oracle games I still found this video very informative. Might want to play them. Great video, Liam
precisely the fresh zelda content i needed! thanks liam
These and Wind Waker... I straight up love and adore. I'm glad more people like Wind Waker these days but Ages and Seasons I constantly talk about how good they are 😸 and seriously I meet next to nobody who have actually played them.
Can we talk about how fine Din is in that thumbnail though? Oh my goodness
I got the games mostly because I had almost all the other Zeldas and thought 'What the heck, they're on Virtual Console'. Very glad I made that choice, they're now some of my favourites.
My favorite Zelda games! Thanks for covering!
You're one of my favorite content creators. The hard work doesn't go unnoticed and I thought I'd send some positivity your way! ✊
The Oracle games hold a hefty dose of nostalgia in my book. Seasons had the best dungeons and bosses whereas Ages had the best story and characters. We can only hope that Nintendo and Grezzo are remaking them on Switch as we speak right now
Would that be a dream?
I think they should remake them to be more like Link between worlds
I say this in the best way possible; this video works SO well at 1.25× speed! Actually, even 2× speed is pretty valid here, and I don't say this in insult either, it truly takes a good sense of verbal delivery and the subject at hand to still be understandable or enhanced by faster speeds. Also good video btw
always a treat to see a new liam triforce video to help me get through the work day
These games are hands down my favorite Zelda titles. I would beat them every summer, sometimes again and again, since the linked quest can continue on to the Triforce quest.
Did you know there's not one, but at least two references to these games in Undertale? There's a chasm a blue chicken takes you across very strenuously, and a table with "A powerful-looking bracelet" on it, before revealing "Oh, it's just a croissant."
There's a reason these games are so beloved by its fans, and it's no coincidence that BOTW is such a hit with its director coming from them. It's only a shame that Nintendo doesn't give them any recognition.
These are both references to link’s awakening though.
another excellent retrospective, and definitely the best ive ever seen someone articulate what really makes these games feel different from links awakening. ive played through all three multiple times but had never really been able to put my finger on just how much more demanding the oracle games are on your memory/spatial aptitude...they really are special in how much closer they get to the original zelda, especially compared to every other handheld game in the series
I feel that these 2 games will be really good when they are finally remade.
I have barely given these games any thought at all since I played them as a kid in the early 00's. Watching this footage, I'm shocked how much of it I somehow still remember and how positive these memories are.
Memories you just unlocked:
It was a lot of dumb fun haha
4. Turning my volume all the way down whenever I had to use that godforsaken magnetic tool :,)
It's amazing to me that more people don't know about these games - they were so good! + the items you got from linking the games together were all pretty cool and felt like real rewards for going to all the trouble.
Great video man, can’t wait to see whatever you work on next
Simp
I want remakes of these two games, plus a new third one, pitch name Oracle of Elements.
I want the third planned game
Legend of zelda never disappoints
To be honest the music and sounds effects grew on me, I genuinely love this games
These two Zelda games are my favorite Zelda adventure! I love the upgraded weapons you can get after linking the game from one to another!!
I loved these as a kid. My mom had the strategy guide which was a cool 2 in 1. It was ages on one side and you'd flip it over for seasons, so cool.
man im late but still insanely excited! love to see a new liam vid :)
I played them when they came out and Seasons will always have a place in my heart. I’m just sad that I’m only now finding out about the Oracle manga 😅
And I loooooved the magnetic gloves!
i've played zelda games left and right, every one of them at least once
but the oracle games are the zelda games i always come back to.
The oracle games were some of my favorites! Glad I found this video! I would LOVE for a remake to be done for this duo of games.
Tysm for this
These games were so dear to me. All LoZ games are, it’s a blessing to have been playing LoZ for 20 years
These were my very first Zelda Games and will always hold my heart for my absolute favorite Legend of Zelda games with Links Awakening right after
I love that sawtoothy bass so much tho
Depending on how much I enjoy Link's Awakening, I'm probably going to be checking these out.
A wonderfully written and produced video, thank you
Another great video. Thanks, Liam!
I got both of these back in the day, but never ended up finishing them...good to see they're awesome.
Ah man I love your vids so much.
I watch them while im working and always await a new one with glee!
I'm working on 100% completing these games right now. I've currently got everything but a few of the most difficult rings.
The tiny attention to details made these awesome. Seasons for ex, need seeds. Make it autumn and slash out leaves. Sorted.
