  • Shot at The Lincoln Theatre in Cheyenne, WY
Before Kanye West came to Wyoming, Jalan was our most famous musician.
It's really hard to put a stamp on Wyoming music, but Jalan get's pretty close. I think officially, Jalan Crossland was the first concert I ever went to. Hearing him play mountain music like he did, made me realize, this is Wyoming music.

That may be because it is not a banjo, it is a guitjo - a six string guitar on a banjo body. It allows guitar players to make the banjo sounds without learning the banjo. This dude makes it sound great

From cheyenne wyoming here born and raised! The lincoln is a beloved theater that used to play dollar movies and has been around since the cowboy days. It's been turned into a music venue in the last few years, and although it breaks my heart to not get to see movies there anymore, I believe bringing artists like this to our little western town is so amazing!! The lincoln will never die ❤

Since the 1400s? I think that what he means is to say is that the theater has been there for longer than his imagination could recollect, stage humor. Jalen plays all over those northern mountains and plains, his touring grounds, so I think that he’s afforded a certain mythologic intimacy with such places. I came across this version of song some 20 years ago, and I still like it.

Ha, I've been listening to Jalan a lot lately, nice to get another video of him! My shot at lyrics and chords. Lyrics might have some mistakes and I'm missing a word. Also, always hard to translate banjo to guitar in songs like this, but you can use the chords below to play it.
Standard Tuning, No Capo. Please note I didn't write down the whole solo, just play Em and Bm all the way
    through
Intro Em Bm Em Bm Em
    Interludes Em Bm Em
Verses Em Bm/ Em Bm/ Em Bm/ Em Bm Em
Solo: Just Em and Bm all the way through, switch when it fits
    [Intro]
    Em Bm Em Bm Em
    [Verse 1]
I've been a moonshiner since that I was born
Drunk upon my money, still love all my corn
Go to some dark holler, put up a moonshine still
Brew you half a gallon for a five dollar bill
    [Interlude]
    Em Bm Em
    [Verse 2]
Go to some dark holler, fix you some booze
It burn like satan's ulcers but it kill of them blues
Come on all you moonshiners, we'll stand all in a row
Your look's so sad and lonesome, sad and lonesome, yes I know
    [Verse 3]
Well bring me a little sugar, bring the lasses by the drum
If a little time and some Carboline we could drink til the morning come
    Oooh-oooh-ooh-ooh
    Oooh-oooh-ooh-ooh
    [Verse 1]
I've been a moonshiner since that I was born
Drunk upon my money, still love all my corn
Got bless all you pretty women, I wish that you were mine
Y'all seem so much sweeter drunk on moonshine
    Ah-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha
    Ah-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha

"Drunk up all my money, stilled up all my corn." "Stilled up" meaning he put his corn in the moonshine still.
