Riddy Arman ( @riddyarman ) shares with us a beautiful story for Father’s Day. The first time she sang this song was around a campfire, and the tension and beauty of this song had me in tears. Thank you Riddy for sharing your story with us.
Western AF is proud to present “Spirits, Angels, or Lies,” by Riddy Arman.

I wasn't expecting a woman in a cowboy hat to make me cry this morning.
The_Wartime_Sartorialist that’s a lyric right there!
Welcome to Western AF
Just got some dust in my eyes, is all.
Then you're not really living life lol
@@frederickpendzinski4392 How so?
Anyone else on a western af binge.. all these artists are just the pure example of true music..
Me right now
Just hopped back on
yup
I'm on this binge a year after you haha
-- flagging that the Western AF tee shirts are super soft & raise the channel's visibility. These folks on a mission.
If this song isn't an example of 'three chords and the truth' I don't know what is.
Fact
Well hell, that’s exactly what this is
Not only is this a "true" story, but it also shows how honest country music writing, while using a famous name, can be. Instead of the cookie-cutter country songs about riding backroads while listening to Johnny Cash, she took a personal experience and made a beautiful song. As a father, and huge Cash fan, this speaks to me.
You need to be a critic for country music
@@robertstarry5480 Wow, what a complement! I'm a fan of all music, but country holds a special place in my heart. It would be a dream to critique music and great songwriting.
@@GhettoWerewolf Its great songwriting...not a box?
@@GhettoWerewolf
GhettoWerewolf is a hell of a handle for a country music critic, but I reckon folks will like it as much as I do. And if they don’t, well partner, they can go to hell.
Catch you on the flipside, if not before.

Holy shit she has one of the greatest voices of any woman in country I’ve ever heard
Very very true!
That's what I'm saying like a damn angel!
Was a fall Friday morn’ mid September,
Dad he would die one month later
When mom went to visit
In the place he would pass,
‘Cross from the river
and in front of the tracks
He said “You won’t believe
who came to my bedside,
Johnny Cash on a freight train
sometime in the night
Well, he wanted me to go
along for a ride,
But I told him I’d stay
for my childen and my wife”
Mom turned on the TV
and to her surprise,
Breaking news this morning
Johnny Cash has died
Well, he passed away in Nashville
sometime in the night
Well the nurses told my Mom
“Don’t be surprised,
Funny things happen
before someone dies”
Well you can call it Spirits, Angels, or lies,
But we’ll never know what somone
sees with their own eyes
No we’ll never know what someone
sees with their own eyes
He said “You won’t believe who came to my bed side,
Johnny Cash on a freight train
sometime in the night
Well, he wanted me to go
along for a ride
But I told him I’d stay
for my children and my wife”
Well, you can call it Spirits, Angels, or lies
But we’ll never know what someone
sees with their own eyes
No we’ll never know what someone
sees with their own eyes
True story
Many thanks for the Lyrics!
TY j.b.
You guys have opened so many windows for me toward these new artists that are bringing back real country music. I love your channel and am so thankful for what you’re doing.
So glad too, nothing like this in the UK at all.
@@jm6958 I can second that... Such a shame
For years i thought thought that there was no hope for Country Music . I may have been wrong .
Hear Hear
@@jm6958 There's really nothing anywhere like Western AF. I don't want to talk about it, lest I jinx it. It's glorious and we're all thankful. Western. AF. :)
So glad we have UA-cam to hear this, since radio is crap nowadays...
Yeah it's been pretty crap for a long time. You're not wrong.
thank god for youtube algorithms sometimes
robbie G - You can support country and not be homophobic dude, don’t bring that stereotype here
Actually heard this on the radio and looked it up on UA-cam.
hearing her about to cry made me wanna give her a hug happy father's day to all the dad's that aren't here anymore
I'm like 95% certain this is Colter Wall's long lost sister. Lol.
For real, my algorithm went from colter to this girl and it seemed like a duet. She's wonderful.
@@watchingyourvideo8029 Would be an amazing duet!
Sister? Colter needs to put on his best hat and boots and show up with flowers!
Could someone please get them together ?
😂
I think she’s the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen
She is nothing short of a national treasure.
I think 'Haley Truelove' is one of the most beautiful names I've ever heard.
Her smile and eyes are truly captivating
same
I wouldn't kick her outta bed for eatin crackers
Has anyone else noticed at 1:07 when she's talking about the connection to Johnny Cash and how it comforts her? Then the wind blows her hair? Hello.
That was the second I realized how beautiful this girl is
We need this on Spotify! ASAP
I most ardently second this!!!
I most ardently third this!
Consider this fourthed
We’ve got a fifth here for you
AND SIXTHED!!
Every time I watch this, it ends with “FUUUCK”: That is so much better than ‘new country’. This is what we need
Mr Thomas Arman left a gift behind
Thank you a Million Western AF for investing in and showing the world these awesome young folks.
Country is NOT dead.
Whoever tries to say that is either ignorant or too lazy to seek new music out because honestly Country has never been so dense with quality artists.. Many highly talented artists today simply tell the Majors to go f__ themselves and carve there own unique path while getting to put out whatever they want.. It's a different time and if people are still listening to dj's or radio stations to show them the top artists then they are doing it wrong and this goes for every single genre/sub genre pretty much across the board. I've seen people comment "thank god there's still some good Country music!" to 100's of artists haha.. I do agree though Western AF does a fantastic job of finding many of these artists and displaying there talents beautifully to a growing audience which is always a great thing to see!
This kind of Woman is the reason America is so strong,...... Americana to the core........ what a natural beauty....
This woman has got IT. Can't listen without crying. Beautiful.
I don't know if Riddy Arman will ever see this, but I just listened to this song for the first time and you have me crying like a baby. I've listened to Johnny Cash with my grandparents growing up, and they instilled in me a love for his music. Last year I finally visited Johnny's resting place in Hendersonville Cemetery and it was a very emotional moment for me to meet my hero even if it was just his marker. A few short months later in the spring of 2020 my grandmother passed from ALS and it was very frustrating that many of us couldn't visit much beforehand due to COVID restrictions. I've been holding that in since she passed and after hearing your song I got to let it all out. Music is so damn powerful. Thank you so much for writing this song.
That’s such an amazing story. I believe things like that really happen. My papa died in 1992. The day before he passed, he said Michael Landon came to see him and wanted him to go with him.
I have listen to this song a hundred times by now and it makes me cry every time. Riddy is a treasure and I really appreciate you amplifying the voices of us women in country music and culture.
The night before johnny cash died we had a party at my house, I demanded it was a cash night!! Needless to say we listened to him all night and danced till the dawn. The next morning we all went to breakfast and the front page of the news paper said johnny cash had died! We all were blown away, we went back home no one went in the house we all stood out side and smoked a joint in his honor! All of a sudden my stereo came on the house was locked!! And Johnny started playing!! Needless to say for the second time that day we all stood speechless and in amazement
Wow, I'm speechless!
Lies
@@lindamon5101 and why would you say that??? Not even knowing me or anyone who was there!
@@grahamsnyder4785 spirits angels or lies? The debil made me
When my grandma was passing she would tell us about the amazing conversations she had with my grandpa and her brothers all who had passed before her and would repeat back the conversations about growing tomato’s, how it was to wet to be stacking hay and funny jokes still makes me wonder this song brought a tear
Sounds a bit like the stories I heard from my great and grand parents from the 20s and 30s. Amen to that.
My dad was supposed to pass one month ago...was brain dead for a week, a 5% chance once the ventilator came out...my Scottish great uncle, his Uncle Alan and he were very close...Uncle Alan passed a month before this at 93...we all 100% thought that’d be the day Dad would go home....but all that week I kept seeing things that said otherwise...at 3am I was driving to a 7-11, driving , just praying and talking to Jesus...where I live, especially at that time, NOBODY is out and about...I literally had got done crying while at a red light when a van came out of nowhere from the toad to my right...a big white van...written on the back window was JESUS CHRIST SAVES! I knew then Dad wasn’t going anywhere...as soon as they took the tube out at 1:16pm, it went in a second from a beautiful clear day, to dark black clouds..it thundered like crazy and it in a minute was totally gone..wasn’t in the forecast at all...tube was out and he started to breath on his own...for the first time in weeks....the Doctors just at this puzzled look, but I knew what was taking place...the night right before I knelt on dads property, looked up at the night sky and prayed...I then saw 3 lights appear in the sky...and immediately something told me these were Jesus’s Angels...the 3, what looked like 3 north stars which appeared out of the blackness In the sky just were there, then one by one, over about 5 seconds, went tearing across the sky right over my head where our house is...a few hours after dad was able to talk again, he said in a weak voice, Jesus sent Uncle Alan to me and Uncle Alan told Dad,”the Good LORD is giving you a mulligan”...dad said his parents and Uncle Alan visited him ...those were the 3 angels I truly believe, I KNOW I saw
Mr.SmithGNR Smith beautiful story
Mr.SmithGNR Smith God bless you, thank you for sharing your story.
Haven’t heard a more well written, soulfully crafted song in a long time. I believe him too.
My own dad was a faithful, diligent Baptist minister for forty years before he passed many years ago. In the months before he left us, he would break down crying as he tried to describe the beautiful things he saw. Family and friends who had gone on before - including my mom - as well as the people and places he had preached about for decades. He also saw the hell of the war he fought in Korea and the brothers he lost. That was the only time in my life he ever really talked about the war.
No, we never know what someone else sees with their own eyes.
I live on the Susquehanna river, oldest in the world...in Maryland...named after the Susquehannock(sorry if I misspelled it) Native Tribe who lived here...my grandmom would say all the time in her last months she’d see Native Americans dancing around a fire and celebrating on our property dawn next to the creek which leads into the river, Deer Creek...docs said she was “losing her mind”, but she wasn’t, Jesus Christ was showing her beautiful souls on that land...she’d say only when she’d go to the window and look out, they be there at night, and according to her they were putting on a celebration for her and her family...I always told her I believed her, because that was the truth..
She looks like somebody i loved more than anything in this world
This is so good! More Riddy Arman please.
Thank you Western AF.
the world needs a good strong woman of her kind
Her honesty is so rare these days. She is a "true" artist.
I get what you're saying, it takes some time inbetween the talents shows up. But lately I've come to think that it's not the lack of great minds, it's just that they drown in the "Meh". And, truth be told, I'm too old to go to any live shows featuring local talented artists. (I was too old years before the covid outbreak too, so I have no excuses.)
She is such a beautiful person, in every way. Just an impressive human, keep it up girl!
This channel is fantastic. Y’all have opened my eyes to so many incredibly talented and underrated country artists! And the production value is amazing, to boot! Thank you!
Second that.
Yup.
Got me hooked on Charlie Crockett
@@Jimmijamzz Same! They're the only reason I heard about him!
Mr Tyler Childers - Heard him here first!!!!
This represents the best of Country music - authentic, moving and beautiful
Riddy Arman...nice to meet you. Beautiful haunting voice! You do country right!
Tears are guaranteed. beautiful.
I always thought I hated country music until I found this channel. Thanks for sharing these artists! :)
I like to divide country music into at least two categories, Commercial Country, like Garth Brooks, which I dislike 90% of, and Grass Roots Country or Americana like what you're getting with Riddy Arman, Emmylou Harris which I love. Dolly Parton sort of straddles both genres.
My father died on Christmas day 1973 when he was only 45. Cry away Darlin' I still do.
Riddy i love you all the way down from Texas!
Our lives are filled with voices. Nothing but voices. There are two kinds of voices. Those you remember those you forget. Riddy has one of those voices I'll remember my whole life.
Damn, this is the real deal. The Western truth. Beautiful song.
Well damn it.....I didnt see this coming. Just woke up in a hotel for work, getting ready to leave, decided to listen to some tunes. Never heard this young lady before, but she sat me down real quick. I got chills and something in my eye now....
My goodness this hit my heart strings like a freight train, absolutely beautiful ❤️
Wow, that was incredible. I've watched several Western AF videos, but this performance finally got me to subscribe. Thank you for bringing us great western music.
Riddy you are magic

Why aren't these songs on Spotify 😭😭😭😭 I need this song on my country playlist
Well, support them through other sites such as Bandcamp. Riddy's music is on there!
@@WesternAF thank you! I just found the Western AF channel yesterday and have been introduced to so many artists I've never heard before. I will definitely look up Bandcamp!
Riddy, I am so taken by you. Yesterday was the first day I listened to any of your songs, heard your name, heard your voice. I have already shown multiple people your music. This was the song that got me so immediately captivated. From the moment you open your mouth, I can feel the immense presence you bring. So proud of you.
Johnny Cash would be so proud, both of the musicians and this channel.
This sound wound up playing in a mix. I'm a grown man. The first time I heard it I had to stop driving on the Ohio Turnpike I was crying so hard. My God what a storyteller and a voice.

Thank you so much. I get choked up at my song for my father and I couldn’t even imagine playing it to an international audience...
Gorgeous voice. Watching from London UK.
Wow!!! That was beautiful! Brought a tear.
Riddy's voice is one of the most captivating I've ever heard in my life.
Beautiful and touching. Thank you
I was in awe with her first video of this song. Such a personable page of lyrics. Miss Riddy, this version is a gorgeous Father’s Day tribute! Thank you
Miss Riddy, thank you so much for this beautiful tribute on Father's Day. Your love for your Father weeps throughout this amazing composition, and it's quite obvious your family shared a great affinity for Johnny Cash as well. In my house JRC holds two distinct honors, 1) America's First Punk Rocker, and 2) America's Greater Rapper. My entire family, wife and two daughters, along with myself, wore black for 71 straight days after the passing of Johnny Cash. I can still remember the sadness of my 6 year old daughters upon hearing that Johnny died, and it was their idea to wear all black in his honor... my eyes still swell with tears when I retell that proud moment of parenthood.
Its hard for me to cry after some of the crap in life has wasted my tears. You, Riddy, find a few that life missed. Thank you. I sure wish I could do something for you one day. George.
Great great find
Now that, all together, is just beautiful.
What a voice & what a song! She should be famous just for this song if she never writes another note. Un-REAL!
Speechless
I'm deeply in love with her song. Sa voix est superbe
That hum at the end spoke to my soul.
My Dad passed in 2000. I'm glad for him in way! He carried a heavy ruck! He loved to listen to Hank, Patsy and Cash! And the taste of whiskey. True what you speek! You never know what the soul sees!
