I've watched almost all the reviews on the Heybike Cityrun and ended up purchasing it. I've had it for over a week and I love it. However, here are a few minor things that I noticed that sometimes did not get mentioned in some of the reviews. 1. I'm going to list this first because I consider it the most disappointing thing, but certainly not a deal breaker for me. Everything else I consider somewhat minor. Hopefully, somebody from Heybike will read this and put out a firmware update that will add this feature: Occasionally, you might not want to do any peddling and just ride it like a scooter by only using the throttle. This bike has NO CRUISE CONTROL and your thumb gets very tired if you're cruising for a long time. It seems to me that this could easily be added with a firmware update. 2. The assembly video is not really that good. What made it particularly challenging and somewhat confusing is that my bike did not come with the quick-release front axle as described in the assembly video. It was easy to figure out, nonetheless. 3. There is a button on the right side of the handlebars, just beneath the throttle toggle, that is labeled "Auto." It is either pushed in or it is out. Nothing appears on the display whether the button is in or out, so it's difficult to know, "What is in auto?" The button is not mentioned in the user manual. If the button is pushed in, the lights will automatically sense that it is dark and turn on. If it is not pushed in, the lights can only be turned on manually. This is a fairly silly and unnecessary feature it seems to me. If it's dark, turn on the lights! I'm pretty sure I can figure out if it's dark and I might need to turn the lights on. Geez. I would have preferred that the button engaged cruise control, not something as unimportant as whether the lights automatically turn on or not. 4. I took the advice of one reviewer (on UA-cam) and changed my seat post to one that has a shock absorber. It made the ride much smoother. Good advice! 5. Some reviewers and users have expressed disappointment that when they turn the bike off, the display says "off," which means something must still be powering the bike. That's true. I doubt this really takes much power as your car also uses power while it's off. In any case, if this really bothers you, there is an ON/OFF switch near the charging port where you insert the charger when the battery is installed in the bike. Turn that off and everything is completely powered down. Easy! HOWEVER! I noticed that in some reviews, the charging port didn't have this switch. It must be something Heybike added later. 6. I've noticed the charging level display is not very accurate; or, at least, it inexplicably fluctuates. When I don't peddle and make the motor do all the work, the charging level sometimes drops down a bar or two. Then, when I start peddling again, I get one or two bars back. That really doesn't make sense unless the bike has regenerative capabilities, which it doesn't. 7. The app that connects to the bike via bluetooth has a "track my ride" feature that seems to tap into Google maps. I couldn't figure out how it is supposed to work and could never get it to "track my ride." It shows a map and my current location. Great! Now what? There is a button that says "Go" but, when I select it, it doesn't track anything. Nothing happens. There is no explanation on how to do this. 8. I love how the handlebars sweep back. I hate hunching over the entire time like I am competing in the Tour de France. 9. I'm glad it only has 7 gears instead of 21, like most e-bikes. Who needs that many gears on an electric bike??? Seven is plenty. The less moving parts the better for maintenance purposes. 10. Both tires have highly-reflective sidewalls. It makes the bike quite noticeable when viewed from the side. They look like two giant glowing circles. A great safety feature! 11. This bike has cadence sensing, not torque sensing. This means that the motor assists based on how FAST you're peddling, not how HARD you're peddling. I'm not sure if that's a good or bad thing. Some say that cadence sensing tends to "take off" on you more the moment you start peddling. I have found that to be true but I also didn't find it to be a problem. All in all, none of the negative things are deal breakers for me. I love this bike. It's a true beast. If you're a tall or heavy person, you're not going to be disappointed. I noticed that many of the other e-bikes are not comfortable for anybody 6-feet or over. This is one of the reasons I selected this bike. For context: I'm 66 years old, 6'2" tall and weigh 200lbs.
Great update and thank you as I’m sure it will definitely help others understand the bike better. The fluctuations in battery power is like this on most bikes because when it is under heavy load it lowers the amperage of the battery and when you pedal it’s not drawing as many amps from the battery making the bars go back up.
Awesome video! Just bought this for my wife about a. Half hour ago. Your review was a possitive in my deciding factor. Very detailed and super informative. Thank you!
I put my bike together myself. I flipped the rack over on the packaging to avoid scratching. That held my wheel up while I attached the frame. With the seat all the down it’s perfect. The seat isn’t comfortable. I had to removed the bottle holder to get on. I am 5’4” 220 pounds.
Cool looking bike. You always do a great comparison video😊 Looks a little like my Blix Aveny which was a bit long to navigate. I changed to a Doheny EZ with 750watts and hydraulic brakes. It can also go 28 mph and has fat tire, and foldable. Love it!! Look it up
My bad, misunderstood your description of this bike. I thought this was a upgraded “Cityscape” and not a new model that was upgraded with better features than those available on current “Cityscape” model. Both nice ebikes. I still prefer the Cityscape for it’s lighter wt. and thinner tires that might fit in bike racks on front of our local city buses. Again, good reviews on both bikes !!!
Thank you this video really help me out. I really love the city run. So am going to save little more money. Trying to get it in Oct. Or Noverber. Thanks again Reese from Calif.
Lots of people say this bike looks 'retro'; probably what they mean is it's the style where the rider sits very upright, which originated in Holland. The most common, standard Dutch bike is called an 'omafiets' which translates to 'grandma bike'!
Great question! If you don't want to peddle and let the motor do all the work, it would be nice if you could take your thumb off the throttle and give it rest.
I followed the links you provided to purchase a replacement suspension seat post. Even if I got the correct diameter post (30.4mm), how can I be sure that it will connect with the seat - or are they all standard/universal connections i.e. the post will attach to any seat.
Great review. Does the key have only mechanical lock for the battery or does it also allow you to kill the power all together? Thinking about the always on display "OFF" showing. I have ordered mine and it should be here next week. I have a cell phone holder & alarm coming as well. Thinking about what else to get. More videos on this bike would be great. You do an excellent job at it. Thanks again, Dan...
Hey, what's the 'auto' button feature. I rode my bike today for the first time and had to stop and power on/off a few times...my throttle in PAS 5 had no power at times on full battery ...home I didn't get a dud!
Tall Rider? Is there a chance that your left foot shoe heel can come in contact with the kickstand? I had to return an Aventon Level2 because of that. I have a size 13 shoe.
I just ordered this bike. I have a 31” inseam, 5’4” (there used to be an extra .5). Would the NCX suspension fit this bike? You have another review that had a lot of usable links for me but this add on was the most expensive. I would like for you get credit. Cheers and thanks!
Hi Theresa thanks for reaching out and wanting to help support the channel. I just updated the links in the description for you for the NCX post that you would need along with the correct shim that you would need for it just make sure to select the correct size. If you use my Amazon affiliate link, I will make a commission on anything you purchase in that session even if it’s not from my link, so if you decide to order a different one after using my link to get there that’s fine and I will still receive the commission so thank you. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.
Dear Heybike Support Team, I hope this message finds you well. I am considering purchasing the Heybike Cityrun electric bike and have reviewed the specifications on your website. However, I couldn't find information about the motor's torque output. Could you please confirm the exact torque specification (in Nm) for the Cityrun's 500W motor (peaking at 1000W)? This detail will help me better understand the bike's performance for my commuting needs. Thank you for your time and assistance. I look forward to your response! Best regards, wjulo7u6hoowsss.
@@joynichols-c9vI think the AUTO button puts the bike's lighting system in either auto or manual mode. In other words, it allows you to manually turn the lights off (which came on automatically when it turned dark). I thought I heard that in another review. Not 100% sure.
Is that a new “ Cityscape” or is that the “Cityrun “ model? I hope that is the Cityrun as I liked the Cityscape you reviewed as a low cost light wt commuter well suited to the flatlands of FL. Cityscape now priced at approx. $600 - $700. At that price a good all around commuter in non hilly communities. I hope Heybike doesn’t discontinue that model ass a good entry level commuter for the right type of flat riding conditions. Best ebike and more reviews on the web, always well done reviews and format presentations. Good job J !!!👍😎
Why would they do that? Apparently, you've been slumming at the Sur Ron channel and may not realize that actual manufacturers have an obligation to conform to certain regulations. There are some good reasons for doing this. I'll give you two. Attorneys and insurance - and as soon as you sell more than a dozen of anything you'll rapidly find you're involved with both. The estate of the first drunk idiot who slams into the back of a city bus doing 30 mi an hour on his allegedly Class 2 ebike is going to be after you with their attorneys - and unless you plan on giving a fair chunk of your company (all of it) and your grandchildren's income to the plaintiffs, and not having your insurance company dump you, you better be absolutely certain that that what you are selling as class 1, class 2, class 3 conforms to those regulations. And on a more philosophical note, I might note that idiots behaving badly on overpowered e-bikes are going to get this industry legislated and regulated more than it already is. There's always a group of morons out there who will take something nice and push it until it breaks for everyone.
My Heybike arrived damaged. They want to send me the parts, have me buy the tools and fix it myself. I looked up reviews and that's their policy. Good luck if it arrive broken, worst customer service ever.

The "off" could be exceptionally low if not none if it is an e-ink type display
I like it! Retro look is cool! Im old, But young at heart. It is definitely not a flavor for all. Nice review Jeremiah

how is this for steep hills and rough roads
