Years ago I delivered lumber, molding and doors. I went to a house one day delivering 16 foot base molding. I ask the customer where she wanted the molding placed. She takes me to a room inside the house, says, " Place the molding inside this room," room is 8' by 8'. She wants it placed inside the room length wise wall to wall. I say to her, "How am I suppose to place 16' molding length wise in a 8' room?" She looked at me like I was talking Martian. There are tons of stupid ignorant people out in the world.

@@williamprice3929 As someone that spent over a decade setting these deliveries up, I can tell you what causes the problem 99% of the time. It's not that the company is making unusual promises, it's that the customer lied to us about the location, is lying to you about what the store said, or both.

    • @williamprice3929

@@TherosSoultaker I worked in the business for a couple of companies for 21 years and you think your going to tell me how the business works? Contractors and customers lie their asses off, they want something for nothing. The companies know this. The dispatcher, sales writer are all interested in the glory of the sale, "Gee boss, do I get a cookie for this?" The outside sales rep. is interested in the sale and delivery because that's how they get their commission. The sales manager and branch manager are interested because the sales figures look good and that's how they get promoted and get their quarterly and yearly bonuses. Few of any of them ever drove a truck and/or made deliveries. They don't care if the customer is a liar, what your telling them from the job site, they only want it done.

Make up your mind on a stupid decision without conferring with people actually doing the work and see it through with no defense for your stupid decision.....Somehow they get promoted by making employee's lives more miserable by demanding a square peg fits into a round hole. I'm almost positive he wanted the delivering crew to cut the bands and hand deliver the load to his back yard. Funny thing is, if he came off nice and offered the 2 fellas $100 cash (or more), they may have taken the time to do so. In my experience, elderly people who get cranky don't come from the ranks. People who do, tend to be kinder and more understanding as they have "Been There" at some point in their life.

I like how after he tells the old man that if it doesn't fit through the opening, he's going to leave it in a specific location. Then when he's getting ready to drop, the old guy tells him he's going to have to put it on his trailer. No, that isn't what was agreed on. Then he argues the point that there's no way he's going to be able to damage the trailer, which isn't the point. Their job is to load, drive, unload, Full Stop. What so many people neglect to understand is that truck drivers aren't there to figure out how or where to get a load placed in any situation. Anything other than a flat drop on the ground might be prohibited by company policy, and if so, then in all likelihood is part of their insurance policy.
I know some things can vary from state to state, company to company, but as a for instance, I drove a tow truck from '98 to '16, and I worked all but the first year for the same company. I still work there, but my driving days are over. I'd like to, but my disability prevents me from even getting back into a truck anymore, never mind actually being able to get out and maybe having to push a car out of a parking space, or having to climb down and back up an embankment carrying I don't even know how many pounds of heavy chains and other equipment. One of the restrictions on our policy was that we were towing only cars and trucks. That means no construction equipment, no landscaping equipment, no tool boxes, no machine shop equipment like presses or lathes, nothing but cars and trucks. Motorcycles were ok, but only as long as they were being towed with a purpose built motorcycle dolly. We've been towing those things for years anyway, but if something ever went wrong, we were completely on the hook for every last penny of making everything whole again.
At one point, he tries to get him to go across the front lawn and around the other side of the house where it's much wider. That idea was shot down too for fear of destroying the guy's very nice looking lawn. But here's something he didn't think about, or maybe he did later, but I'll bet there's probably a leech field somewhere over there, and the old fart doesn't remember where, or maybe that it's even there at all.

First of all, that hardly qualifies as a wall of text. A wall of text is NEVER broken into paragraphs, and as a rule, they contain little to no punctuation, and even very little capitalization to help separate one sentence from another.
Second, I'm reasonably certain that you don't get to speak for everyone by saying that, and I quote..., "Nobody reads walls of text", emphasis on "Nobody".
Allow me to fix that for you real quick...
"I'm too lazy to read comments with more than five words."
      You're welcome.
Just in case you're too lazy to read this "wall of text", I'll sum it up with something more your speed...
      TLDR... 🖕🙂🖕

I've had a LOT of building mat'ls delivered when I built a deck, steps, addition, and landscape walls at my last house. I always appreciated when the guys delivering had the kindness and often excellent skills to get the stuff as close to where I needed it as they could. When they couldn't? I moved it myself by hand one piece at a time if that was what it took. What's wrong with people? What happened to work ethic? When the driver explains the curbside concept and offers to get it as close as reasonably possible, just say thank you.

Over 40 years ago I delivered a load of washed rock to a home owner's back yard. He typically parked beside his back yard garage and had carpet covering his neighbors fence to avoid scratching the paint on his car. A power pole took up about 1.5 ft of the lane by his neighbors fence and the eve of his garage was too low for me to back under. When I arrived he simply said "Just whip in there and dump it about 10 feet behind the house." I looked at him and said "I may be driving a Ford but it's a Louisville not a courier." It took quite a while but I did manage to wiggle in and out and the bastard didn't even say thank you.

Wed angle the boards to both end corners of the forks, that usually works, we could even extend the forks and angle the wood to both end end corners of the forks, did that with steel and aluminim pipes also at factories. Though we had two people at both ends to keep it from moving around, in this case, theres risks doing that.
