Indeed ,we were very lucky to have grown with all that music (I'm 63) ,I feel sorry for the young ones , they have nothing decent to listen to.

The golden age began in the 1960s, with Elvis, Beatles, Rolling Stones, Dylan, Aretha Franklin. In the 70s with Pink Floyd, Eagles, Genesis, Springsteen, Queen, in the 80s with Dire Straits, Madonna, Michael Jackson, W. Houston, Police, U2, Tina Turner, in the 90s with Oasis, REM and ended with the end of the twentieth century. Obviously I have mentioned only a few of the many artists of the 1960-2,000 period. After 2000, with some exceptions, Anastacia, Alicia Keys, Norah Jones and a few others, nothing.

@@Silviadri2011 yes, Alan Parsons Project was one of the bands that I dind't mentioned in the list. However, unfortunately, I 'm old enought to have bought the album "Eye in the sky" Even I was only a teenager and I still didn't understand progressive rock well, I was fascinated by this beautiful album, a mix of progressive rock, experimental music and pop. Alan Parson is a genius. The Beatles and Pink Floyd themselves told that a nice part of the succes of "Abbey Road" and "The dark side of the moon" was because Alan Parson was the sound engineer,

One of the most iconic and beautiful songs I’ve ever heard. I remember first hearing this song 40 years ago, and it still sounds just as fresh and beautiful as when I first heard it. This talented group just nails it.

Overall - spectacular. One of the premium tracks of the 80's - dear to many. This is fantastic but my air hairs stood up with the Sax came in. I loved the personal take, what an incredible talent. Put Gold in the upcoming playlist - along with Midnight Blue by Lou Gramm. Fantastic guys - another ripper.

Daniel's voice is amazing. He has the unique ability to mimic other frontmen just enough to evoke nostalgia for the original version while still retaining his own spin on it. These videos are a masterclass in doing covers proper justice.

@@pabskie69 give him a break, geez. Have you seen the "live" versions of the original band on you tube. Its not live. It sounds just like the record, because it is the record. I thought this version was cool because everything you hear is a person playing an instrument, live. I don't think they use any backing tracks. The "live" versions of the original band are lip synching. I'm not saying this sounds better than the original, but people are allowed to think that.

Listen to the original and you'll realise how good Tony Hadley's voice is. It's a nice cover and they're great at getting the vibe and sound but not a patch on the original.

The best singer at HSCC.
I was a teenager in the 80s and this song was always a classic. Hearing it always takes me back to those days. Simply wonderful performance HSCC.
We have just come to expect 'fabulous' as the norm from you guys now. Even so, this was exceptional. Not overplayed, but wonderfully musical...

It s a miracle to me how a singer can cover all the really big songs so absolutely gorgeous. Moreover there are many voices covered by him, which seem rather very difficult to me and he nails them all to the point, not only 1 of them !

One of my all time favorite songs. Especially since its essential message is that the group (Spandau Ballet) found their voice,melody,rhythm, and soul in the music made by other performers. And more importantly, the performers whom preceded them.

Another thing I love about these covers is the appreciation for the sound, arrangement, and characteristics of the original recording that you get from hearing an attempt to duplicate it. This is a beautiful version.... and it really highlights the 'magic' that Spandau Ballet captured with their original track.
Yes, the original recording - And the accompanying music video - in my mind can't be topped. Tony Hadley's singing voice and raw emotion on that song made it more than "just a song."
The music video was spare in sets and "story" but really highlighted Spandau Ballet's good looks and stylish "New Romantic" persona, the perfect complement for this particular song. The art direction, camera movement, and particularly the use of the changing split screens was minimalist yet visually effective. (Fun fact: I read somewhere that Sade designed the lads' stylish suits before she would make it big herself as a singer in about a year.)
