Hello, everyone. Welcome to Episode Four of Stories of War. This one was a giant pain to make owing in large part to significant writer's block, reshoots, carelessness and all manner of unpleasantness that nearly drove me to madness! Or maybe it did. If you were truly mad, would you know it? That's a question for another day. For those of you wondering what was said by Stalin during his speech, here's the link to the video I used: ua-cam.com/video/6nK0RuW3z6g/v-deo.html. I hope you enjoy it. A special thanks to TheNebulaXYZ for the story idea.

eh if they big hunks of metal arent they much more stronger then a car? as they are heavier and made of more parts then a car meaning they are more stronger? side note only steam engines could work like this as diesel is like gasoline and could explode but its much thicker then gas so takes a bit more also if steam engines could take a beating wouldnt it be better to have a war train if one was built to withstand harsh conditions? espcially in the cab area? and or the rail cars too?

If only we had English subtitles for Stalin's speech... Ah well.
Good thing the Lucky Lamp was there in Africa. Too bad it had to leave the Mid-Sodor Railway. LOL
I can safely say that Alfred, in this version, died a hero's death. If they just had enough time to uncouple the brakevan, switch the points and push it off the quay... Then maybe Alfred and Mr. Star would still be alive.
Think Mr. Zorro can handle the task of directing every single standard gauge engine on Sodor until S.T.H. arrives?
As for Stationmaster Jeffries, he will be less than sorely missed. But I'd safely assume that his meddling would've stopped the bomb sooner. We'd have gotten a new respect for the man as a patriot.
The S.S... They got theirs in the end, as did the rest of the Nazis.
Also, I'm pretty sure that Kursk, not Stalingrad, was the turning point of the Eastern Front.

Well I'm practicing my Russian and I was able to see a video (ua-cam.com/video/SW9PDj1jqRU/v-deo.html) of that speech where Stalin said these very words: "People with the morals of animals have the impudence to call for the annihilation of the Russian nation. The Germans want to win a war of annihilation. Well if the Germans want a war of annihilation, that's what they'll get. (Russian scripture: Люди с моралью животных имеют наглость призывать к уничтожению русского народа. Немцы хотят выиграть войну на уничтожение. Что ж, если немцы хотят войны на уничтожение, они это получат.)"

Sadly most Nazis and SS members and Nazi collaborators were never punished for their crimes either because they committed sucide such as Hitler or Himmler, died before they could be tried, fled through the rat lines to South America such as Josef Mengele, fled to other countries, went into hiding, only spent a few months or years in prison before being released or were even outright pardoned, died before they could be convicted, or were even recruited by the allies such as Britain and the United States either to fight against communism or to find a way to land on the moon. Josef Mengele was a prominent example of this as after he fled to South America he was never captured and he eventually died of both a heart attack or drowning in 1979 meaning that he was never brought to justice for his crimes. Although some Nazis and ss members or Nazi collaborators were punished for their crimes either by being executed or spending the rest of their days in prison the vast majority of Nazi war criminals got away with it. There were millions of people throughout Nazi occupied Europe who took part in the Holocaust including not just Hitler and his inner circle but also those who ran the concentration camps and extermination camps and those who worked in them, those who ran or drove the trains carrying people to their deaths, those who compiled lists of the number of Jewish people and other groups of people who the Nazis persecuted and killed, those who oversaw the concentration camps and extermination camps, those who deported Jewish people and other groups of people, those who oversaw deportations, those who rounded them up and turned them over to the Nazis, those who organized pogroms, those who organized and ordered or took part in mass shootings such as the Einsgruptin, Almost all of the Wehrmacht, the SD, and local collaborators, and those who betrayed Jewish people and other groups of people by ratting them out to the Nazis and other collaborators and turning them in to the Nazis and their collaborators. Of those millions who were involved in the Holocaust only a few thousand or thousands of them were punished for their crimes with the rest of the perpetrators getting away with it. Now almost all of the Nazi war criminals are dead either due to old age or other causes with only a few of the perpetrators left alive and soon if they aren’t tried for their crimes they will be dead.

But I’m rather MORE shocked and saddened that Alfred and Mr. Starr died. Who’s gonna take charge of the NorEasters now? And how are they gonna act without him? And Alfred had a GREAT personality in this series instead of being the nasty and rude 98462 that grew to know. May Alfred AND Mr. Starr both rest in peace.

Last time I saw Alfred was on Thomas1Edward2Henry3's NWR Origins. He died attempting to blow up Henry and Gordon in a psychotic rage by pushing a line of fuel tankers and boxcars (the latter probably to shield himself from harm). Had it not been for a quick-thinking signalman, I'm sure it would've worked.
In this case, he died similarly, but instead of psychotic rage, it was selfless sacrifice. I mourn for him as well as beloved Mr. Starr.

For those who are unaware, the accident that Toby was referring to at 12:30 was likely inspired by the Quintinshill rail disaster, which involved the collisions of a Local, a Troop train, and an Express train. Over 200 lives were lost, making it Britain's worst railway disaster.

My Grandpa Ilya Markovich (September 28, 1912-August 11-12, 2018 Midnight) has participated in WWII as a Russian Naval Officer. During his years in the Navy on Commander Admiral Vladimir Filippovich Tributs’ (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vladimir_Tributs) command and orders, he has received medals for honor and valor. He received the rank of Naval Officer before WWII, which put him in charge of the lives of others. One night, Ilya and his male friends went to a restaurant to celebrate his rank. The girls were attracted to him mostly and he would dance with each of them since he was an attractive charming ladies’ man. As an Officer, he had to make tough decisions about how his orders should be obeyed. When he and his men heard on the radio that Operation Barbarossa was happening and had succeeded on December 5 1941, Ilya was furious and swore to get revenge on Nazi Germany who betrayed Soviet Union and avenge our ancestors, the Soviets, who were captured and killed. He led many sailors into battle during the Baltic Sea Battle (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baltic_Sea_campaigns_(1939-1945)) against Nazi Germany led by Adolf Hitler. He and his men were at the front lines as a naval officer in the Baltic Sea and risked his life to defend his country and fight the Axis and teamed with the Army Artillery, on Commander Ivan Isakov’s (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ivan_Isakov) command and orders, to coordinate fire. His ship evacuated Army soldiers surrounded by enemies. Ilya also knew German so he could translate what Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Germans are saying on the radio recorded and sent by Soviet Union’s spies. One day in October 1943, his ship was attacked by enemy aircraft (the Luftwaffe), hit by a mine, and almost sank. However, Ilya and his surviving friends managed to survive that horrible disaster by boarding life speedboats, but the others weren’t so lucky when they were killed. Every battle, day and night, many of Ilya’s friends were killed and it shocked him. He always put the wellbeing ahead of his own men. He brought food and water for his family during the blockade around Leningrad (currently St. Petersburg). He and his men were stationed at Kronstadt between Finland and Estonia. He and his friends walked on the ice to the city to bring food to their each of their families and friends. Ilya would write letters to his parents, telling them about what was happening and updates on his squadron and machines. My Grandpa risked his life so that others could live. If my grandpa and his friends didn’t walk over ice from the island navy base and then into the city by truck, their families would have died. After WWII, he continued his service, as a Naval Commander as his reward for surviving and participating valiantly, at the Far East between Finland and Estonia.
