I had a similar scenario in about 2012, I was replacing the sill on our home and had the front of my house torn apart and night came and was not finished so I put heavy plastic up because it was a chilly night.
I told my wife we will sleep in the front room with the plastic up just in case by chance someone wanted to break in.
About 2 AM my wife wakes me up saying she hears foot steps out side, after listening quietly for a minute I heard foot steps so I told her hold on and got up and got my pump 12 gauge shot gun out of corner in the room we are in.
Right after I grabbed the gun I hear the perp walk up stairs and walking around on front porch , I could hear perp was clearly there because of the composite deck boards on thr porch.
I yelled who's there twice with no answer and we are about 5 to 12 feet apart so I decided this is looking like this might be a big problem developing so I pumped the shotgun and when I did the perp jump off the porch and you could here perp running up the sidewalk.
Legend has it that THE PERP IS STILL RUNNING FOR HIS LIFE TO THIS DAY. LOL

    • @tidewater5679

@Xray Paul Actually, for shotguns. It is a bad idea to leave a round in the chamber. Because depending on the shotgun, it can cause a failure to feed due to the internals being worn down from having one chambered for too long.
That if you drop it, it can and will go off. Most shotguns do not have a physical block to prevent the firing pin from being rocked forward, even with the safety engaged.
The most common position to keep a home defense shotgun is known as the cruiser position. Keeping a nearly full tube to prevent too much wear for the tube spring. Generally it is fine to leave it without the safety engaged since there is no round chambered in and in a life or death situation you can pump it and be ready to go.

They were giving my dad some trouble saying they had a gut shot deer run over (they claimed to be neighbors a few miles off, no way it ran that far). I showed up on my open carry day, saw my dad was looking pissed with 3 guys hassling him. I walked up, hand resting on my glock, make myself known and watch these three guys turn pale while they try to stammer out the explanation. Almost immediately after my dad explains the situation to me one of the guys "receives a text" saying that a 4th guy found it on their property. Ran off with their tails betwixt their legs

Actually, the CDC did a study on gun violence in 2013 under the Obama administration that explored some of the numbers behind defensive gun use. The study as a whole ended up showing that "gun violence" as it exists in the US is wildly mischaracterized by the media and most instance of "gun violence" were either suicides or one on one killings that could have been accomplished as easily with a hammer or kitchen knife as a .22 pistol. As you might expect, the study was never widely publicized! Gotta keep the public afraid of those AK-14s and their fully semi automatic clipazines.
Here's the link. Summary of defensive use on page 15. www.nap.edu/read/18319/chapter/3#15
Some journalist at WaPo tried to argue gun rights advocates were misconstrewing the admittedly inconsistent findings, but he also conveniently omits that even the lowest estimate of defensive gun uses more than doubles FBI homicide statistics for most years. Might be all years, but I'm not gonna go back three decades. And once again, most of those are killings that gun bans likely wouldn't have prevented. Here's his article www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonk/wp/2015/01/16/the-study-that-gun-rights-activists-keep-citing-but-completely-misunderstand/
Long story short, I think there's solid evidence gun ownership is beneficial to the US. Even when people cite countries with extremely low gun crime.. what are you left with? Normal... crime? So people are being murdered with other things? Yeah, sure, real utopias those places.
Knowledge is power, fellas. Arm your minds like you arm your homes.

I had a similar story a few months ago not in the house but in my wifes Jeep in a parking lot of a local grocery store late at night . We had stopped to pick up a few things so she ran in and I stayed out in the Jeep it was still cold out so I'd had her leave it running .The SRS (airbag) light keep coming on during the trip so I'd leaned over in the passenger seat to reach under and fix the connection . When I glanced up I see a guy slowly making his way down the side of the Jeep and just as he tries the door I sit up with my carry gun point right at him through the window . I don't think I've ever seen a junkie looking guy run so fast . But I realize the rear windows are tinted so since I was bent over he couldn't see me at all until he got to the driver window which isn't tinted as dark . Makes me glad I don't live somewhere it's illegal to carry a gun .

I hear folks talk about plate carriers etc. by the bed, but people don't realize just how quick this stuff goes down. When the bedroom and entry point(s) are on the same floor, you don't have time to even put your pants on. An AR or scattergun with a "MANDATORY" light on it is all you have time to grab. I also WILL NOT have an optic on a home defense firearm that doesn't have shake awake on it. Your fine motor skills go out the window, so you'll never find that little bitty "on" button in the heat of it all. Preparation is paramount.👍👍👍

I lived in a two story apartment building, that's in between two others just like it and it was across the street from a trailer park, the kind full of junkies. I open carried a 9mm at the time, a big, bulky stainless steel sidearm. In the three years I lived there, I built a reputation for being the guy with a gun. And in those three years, my apartment was the ONLY APARTMENT that WASN'T broken into! There were so many break ins in that area that my auto insurance was raised because of it.

My only experience with a break in was in the middle of the day. I was home (in the bathroom) and my car was in the shop. My apartment complex's maintenance man was able to break the door frame and move a security bar in under 1 minute. I think that the dude was trying to steal something that he saw while doing A/C repair for me earlier that week and that he waited until my car was gone, thinking that I'd be in class. I met him at the door to the bathroom with my concealed carry drawn and my pants pulled up but not zipped. No shots fired, thankfully. He claimed to be there to check up on the repairs and hadn't realized that he broke the frame when he was opening the "stuck" door. Really, really weird situation

I’ve been subbed a while, this video just showed up for me. Moved into my current house two months ago and a week ago at about that time I heard what sounded like a window break and someone walking around outside. I keep my 12ga by my bed because it’s what I’m most familiar with. This would have been great to have seen before because I did pretty much the opposite of everything I should have. Turned out fine, broken window, nothing missing, no sign anyone ever came into the house. Thanks for this video, I’ll be changing the way I address that a bit going forward should the need arise.

German Shepards are great dogs if I ever get another dog it will be a German Shepard.Right now I have a English Setter he is a very good dog my whole yard is fenced and he has the run of the whole yard, and he stops anyone who starts in my gates ,he has a very good temper and he only barks at strangers.he came wandering out of the woods by my home one day nearly starved ,he was just bones and hide,no collar so I kept him and he is a great dog ,I have never taken him hunting ,but he loves to go with me to my neighbors pond up in the hollow next to my house .he likes to run and jump way out into the middle and swim he cracks me up ,I walk him up there in the summer when it is hot out and he run up and over the dam at a dead run and just kinda fly up and over out into the pond then swim out and run back to me and shake off.lol he will do it over and over just like a kid playing at the pool.

Steven DeAtley Yeah. My big boy Berrin. Who was with me for 12 great amazing years. Best smartest dog I ever met. Just passed last Oct. I was absolutely heartbroken. I cried so hard the day He passed. I was sore the next day. But he went surrounded by my friends. We buried him in my backyard. Drunk as hell. And using 3 of my Ar15s that had surefire lights on them.
My new GSD is Luca. My friend runs a dog rescue in Detroit. And found him abandoned. Someone cut him up real good. And also cut off one of his ears. Took him a little time to settle in. But he’s the sweetest dog I ever met.

There are dogs, and then there are German Shepherd Dogs... Our 2 year old GSD sleeps at the top of the stairs at our bridge forier and nothing is getting by her. She put 4 holes in an idiot that directly walked at my wife while she was walking Ripley at the park... Scumbag changed his course twice to walk at them oncoming on a trail. Sum-bitch had two assholes and a new dick hole after she finally let go, hahahahahaah! Wife was worried animal control was going to take Ripley away. I said what is the scumbag gonna tell them? That he was creeping and planning to assault you after downing 20 beers??? That's one park it won't ever come to stalk again!

A suggestion for advance notice and immediately distinguishing which door someone is approaching. We have Guardline motion sensors, one sensor aimed at each of two entrances, different alerts for front/back and for day/night. Daytime base in the den has two distinct short doorbell chimes. Nighttime base in the bedroom has two distinct long alarms. Praying it's never needed, but if so I'll already be moving to the bedroom rifle safe and then ambush point before a door is kicked. My turf, my rules, no fair fights.

I've had a similar situation happen in my home with my entire family present at 1am. My wife and I had a plan and rehearsed this plan with our 4 children. The end result was a man was arrested and 2 of my neighbors and myself held the home invader at gun point until the police arrived. Turned out the criminal had already robbed a home in the cul-de-sac before ours. The hardest or scariest part was keeping my 2 young children calm (they stated crying in all the commotion). We now have a alarm system on all of our windows and doors and a improved plan. We live in a great neighborhood in west Phoenix, but we never know. Thank God for my AR and the new SureFire light I had just put on and thank God my oldest son was on the shower when the asshole broke in through his window.

We've had a few break-ins in our upper middle class suburban neighborhood a few years back. One through a sliding glass door on the rear of that house (threw a rock through the glass) during the day, one front door kick in during the day, one garage service door kick in during the day. We've had an alarm system for many years prior to that, but never used it that much. Now we use it religiously. I added a storm/security door to the front door (main entrance) and bolstered all of the lock plates on the house with 3" long wood screws to replace the measly standard 1/2" long screws (so the screws go into the actual wood door framing vs. just the door trim). I replaced the standard small latch strike plates with heavy duty security models. I also added extra locks to all of the windows - especially the basement windows. We added 3M security laminate to the windows on the back of the house that are easily accessible from the ground level. In all, while it's not Fort Knox, the added security measures would certainly slow down any attempt at entrance into our house. I suggest that everyone who sees this video examine their house/apartment for weak spots and take appropriate measures to secure them.

A good security upgrade for windows is simple mirrored window tinting that makes it very hard to look in but lets you still look out. It doubles as a cheap security film if some tries to break the window to get in as it is stuck to the glass already so will hold the glass together to a limited extent. Frosting the windows both blocks vision in but also blocks vision out cutting off a place you can look out yet can leak info to someone outside when they see a shadow pass by or the flicker of a tv.
