Samantha it definitely offered insight into the family issues (particularly with her mother) that she’s talked about. I mean, if her mother grew up with this woman, it explains why she was not such a great mom to Zabrena.

Mrs. Erica, you read my mind. I for sure felt sad, and definitely a bit angry at Grams. That woman must have really been unhappy with herself to be so cold, especially to her grand-young'n. Shame on her 😞

I was fourteen when I bought my own lip gloss from Walmart, it was a Wet N Wild lip gloss and I wore it to school every day until my dad found it, yelled at me for wearing it and then threw it away. A few days later I was with my mom at Walmart and she saw me looking at the glosses. She looked at me and said "Pick two and don't let your dad find them." That was the beginning of my love for makeup and also watching her do her makeup. My mom has been so accepting of me wearing makeup and often will go to me for advice about new makeup, she's the best. 💗

I can identify with your ‘grandmother’ story - my experience exactly with my mother (who was a mean alcoholic). When I was a teen I saved and bought a dress I really liked. I wore it twice and never saw it again. I’m sure she got rid of it. So glad you and I overcame those experiences! I’m old enough to be your mom, but those hurts have a way of living with us.

My father's mother was just like that. During her funeral I was sitting next to Dad on the front row and the minister was talking about what a wonderful person she was... I prayed "Lord, please don't send lightening to strike him dead for lying. He doesn't know her the way WE knew her..." LOL 😂

At my paternal grandmother's funeral I sat in the back with my Dad. He left during the service (?!), and the guy who was giving the eulogy tearfully went on for over an hour about how Christ-like my grandmother was (she wasn't to me or my siblings). I just looked out at the 605 freeway and kept giving him the "WRAP IT UP" gesture out of sight.
I also had a great-grandmother who DID.NOT.LIKE.ME, but loved my sister so much that she would send her a dollar every year for our birthday. Me: she sent back the pillow cover I sent her. My (now estranged) parent told me that she didn't want it. All of these are reminders of what not to become, and I'm glad that I recognized it at the time.

My grandma was very difficult to her close family as well, but people would rave to us about her. When I was really young, it was confusing. When I was a teen, it angered me. Now that I'm older, I'm thankful that she was able to be a great influence in the lives of certain people, at least. It's powerful encouragement to me to try to treat *everyone* equally well!

Hi Zabrena! This was a fun video so thank you for creating it. Listen...I dont know if you’ve already done a “life story” video and I’ve just missed it... or if you’re even interested in doing something that personal... however, I just must say... that hearing you talk about your experience with your grandmother made me realize that for whatever challenges or trials you had to endure as a child, you have definitely become such a beautiful, intelligent, kind hearted, & open minded person as an adult. Sometimes our trials (however difficult & unfair) really do make us stronger. I’d love to hear your story if you’re ever interested. Thanks again, Zabrena. I appreciate your positivity and enthusiasm.

This was such a fun video :) I love that pic of you with the blue eyeshadow! My mom wasn't into makeup much, so my first makeup experience was mostly trial and error. Twelve-year old me was really into the smokey eye look and overly pale CoverGirl concealer, which I used as foundation (pretty sure it looked as scary as it sounds).

I always say that we never know what has been, or is, in somebody's life. The person next to us in the queue could be experiencing any manner of personal problem, poor home life, whatever. To see how accomplished you are, how you present yourself with such decorum, who would believe you have ever experienced a moment's unhappiness? Like with the story of the vanilla fragrance, your sharing that personal recollection makes me feel I get to know you a little bit, which is charming. The birthday photograph is delightful, the story of the eyeshadow terribly sad. In direct contrast to your Grandmother, you are clearly a loving, warm, and nurturing Mum to your two little ones .
On a lighter note, what a fun video. You did so well with those two shades, the end result looked great! x

@Zabrena You’re so amazing & so amazingly talented. 💋 As for my first real makeup item, it was Covergirl’s Classic Blush in Natural Glow. My Paternal Aunt wanted me to spend the entire Summer with her, so my parents drove me. The next morning, I had gotten into my mother’s makeup bag, took her classic red lipstick and used it as blush. As I walked out of the bathroom, all proud of my self because I was now a 14 year old almost away from Mother & Dad for the first time, there stood my Aunt, eyes bugging out, asked “What do you have on your face?” Scared to death, I said “Mother’s lipstick? I wanted to be like you. “ She softened up and went on to explain that young ladies don’t wear red rouge. She cleaned me up & took me to the drugstore to buy me proper blush. My aunt was more of a mother to me than my own mother. So I can really relate to your experiences. Big {{Hugs}} 🌺💖🤗

    • @scotzmnswife
      @scotzmnswife 5 років тому +1

Reading your comment brought back memories of my maternal Grandmother who passed away at age 90 in 2007. She always wore a little bit of face powder, lightly applied rouge, a grey eyebrow pencil (her hair was premature grey which later turned that beautiful white-silver), & classic-red matte lipstick. She was never overly made-up, but just looked very put-together. When I was a kid & we'd be preparing to go somewhere, I would ask if I could wear some of her makeup too. She was so cute & would just barely dab some of her lipstick from the tube on her finger to put on my lips, & did the same with the rouge so it was barely detectable. Still, I felt so grown-up & pretty because I was wearing makeup like her! 😉Hearing Zabrena'a polar-opposite experience makes me appreciate how blessed I've been to have wonderful loving grandparents on both sides (along with my grandmother's sister & brother), all of which are deceased now, as well as my parents who I'm fortunate to still have with me as they are getting up in years. 🙌☦️ Precious memories! 😊 💖

I really appreciate it when you give a little glimpse into the youth of Zabrena. I can understand it wasn't all fun and games, so maybe you don't always want to revisit those times. But your contemplative moments are some of your best. I was allowed to mess around with makeup at home, but once I couldn't resist wearing a little Avon Slick Tint in glossy rose to school in 5th grade. The teacher made me wipe it off in front of the class and she sent a note home to my mother. That was super embarrassing! 😒 But I survived. LOL.

My first makeup was a hideous shades of olive green eyeshadow and liquid liner set on clearance at the drugstore in the late 70s. It was great for practicing, at least. I never wore it in public except that Halloween.
I am so sorry you had such unloving people in your life. Your dad seems to have done a fabulous job helping you recover. I loved seeing him a bit in your earlier videos.
I have relatives who have been this awful to their children and stepchildren. I see parents doing this kind of thing to their kids a lot. It is so cruel and unnecessary. It just boggles my mind why people think it is acceptable.
I made sure mine were not raised that way, and they have grown up loving caring sweet people as they should be.
Your children are so blessed to have you as their mother. I love catching glimpses of them in your vids.

I love it!!!!! It was fun and creative. I remember the video you did only with L.A.Girl concealers. The great thing is to think outside the box. So we get creative too and use our makeup in different ways. Sometimes we can think of discarding a makeup and we do not think about it for another use. So this was a very fun video.

This dates me, but the absolute first beauty product I ever received was a small bottle of Evening in Paris perfume from my grandma. She was a wonderful grandma,by the way. I’m sorry you didn’t have a good one. Anyway, it was a slim, deep blue vial with a tassel attached to the top. I thought it smelled just like heaven, and kept it in my ballerina music box. My first makeup product was a giant, strawberry scented lipsmacker. I would carry it in my little purse, and apply it at school. I felt so grown up. Thanks for the fun video, I enjoyed the trip down memory lane!

Love your stories Zabrena! My first make up my mum bought for me for my 13th bday in 1984 it was an aqua eyeshadow single with a frosted pink maybelline lipstick. Then the first make up I bought with my own money a short time later was a maybelline quad Blooming Colors in pink and blue- wish I had it now!

that was inspiring. I can also relate to harsh grandma story. I see you as a warm and good woman. May all your heartaches be transformed in joy for you and your family. Loved the totally dark brown lipstick on you, BTW.

Wow, rimmel has a chocolate color?! I have seen my color mocha but never chocolate. Exciting.
Thank you for sharing your story about bad grandma.😣 I was totally taken as you were telling the story and wanted to hear more. Not all parental units are good ones unfortunately.

Haha, that picture is great! My first makeup was that eye shadow in white (pearl)! I'm sorry for the experience you described with your grandmother...all a part of the fabric of who we are, good bad or other. How wonderful you were able to have a close relationship with your dad. That's not something all of us can claim.

My grandmother wasn't like that but my mom was so I can relate. I started wearing makeup coming out of junior high and I absolutely loved my blue, pink and purple. Yep, all three, on my eyelids and blue mascara. Certainly made my green eyes pop.💜💜💜
