It’s so true that you need a good light setup. Mine got leggy last time and died. With window method. I have some saved seeds from plants that I will use to learn this year and invest in just one good light to see if it is worth it for me. I also sprinkled some seeds around in a wildflower area that I have so that would be amazing I they came up next spring 😄Aside from that I talked to my local nursery and they are willing to start plugs too so that’s an option. Here’s to a good lisi year!😅
Yes the window is just not sufficient lighting for most seeds. The sunlight is too filtered through the glass and the plants always seem to strain toward what light does come in. Good plan on waiting to see if it’s worth it for you to purchase one. There are many affordable options to even just try one light. Wildflower seeds should come back and then if you let some self seed, they will return year after year. I have wildflowers all over my garden and I love how it’s a surprise every year as to what’s coming back! Yay, to the nursery doing that! I think most garden/plant people want to support each other and see them be successful! Sounds like it’s shaping up to be a great year for you!!
I totally agree w you about some of what you said about seeding ur own Lisianthus. This is my 3 rd year seeding them and year one was great, but year two they got too hot in my grow room and lots dried up and died. Since then I’ve learned they prefer to grow in cooler temps, and kept moist but not wet, & don’t let them dry out, and have a lot of patience😳! This year I’m growing Lavendar, Red and Brown. 75 of each ( hopefully ) Germination was pretty good but hard to see exactly as very tiny, using a purple grow bulb ( obscures green seedling colour ) but it looks like lots of lavendar, red and maybe not as many brown? As well they are out of my brow room and on my cooler dining table. I’m hopeful but I’m a senior lady w mobility issues w lots of spare time! As well I seeded them Dec 1 ( last year Feb 3 ( too late ) and year 1 I bought plugs! Could be why it was my best year! Anyway it’s very rewarding starting my own lisianthus seeds. Ask me in the spring if that’s still the case haha . First time watcher! Happy to see another zone 3 gardener!
Good for you for starting your own lisi seeds!!! I honestly commend anyone who does because they are a job but they are so worth it!! This will be my 3rd season growing them coming up but I ordered plugs rather than seeding myself. I just don’t have the time for them and have so many other things I love to start! I think you are smart to get them started December 1 because I also found the 1st year I grew them and started them, I could have started much earlier than I did! Happy growing and thank you for joining in! 😊 lovely to see another zone 3 gardener
