In this video I present to you an overview the new Wouxun KG-S72C FM CB radio. This is the first FM CB radio from Wouxun and also the smallest FM CB radio you can buy. I also compare AM CB audio to the new FM CB mode and I show what FM CB sounds like when listening on an old AM CB radio and what AM CB sounds like when listening on a new FM CB radio.
BuyTwoWayRadios sent me this radio at no cost in exchange for making this video.

Not buying chinacrap
Thanks for letting us all know! We were all very curious if you would or not and we've been waiting to hear what you had to say.. But, we also all want to know what non-china device you typed your comment with?
Good luck with that...
You won't be buying much then
@@TheNotaRubicon 😅🥹😂🤣
Hmm possibly typed your comment using 'chinacrap'? If so I wont tell anyone.
Randy. You didn't take the protective cover off the display.
As your favorite viewer I was expecting this.
If I were to click the
Affiliate link below
I won't know what it looks like without the displays protective cover.
Actually, Mike, I'm his favorite viewer. Not you. But I agree that he should have removed the clear rubberized neoplastic protective cover that goes over the clear plastic display. It is removed with a characterised “Aaahhhhhhh,” which was uncharacteristically absent. Me, I actually keep them on for as long as practically possible. That way, I can keep the display as pristine as possible. I do, however, join in with the “Aaahhhhhh” chorus with my brothers online.
I would like to know how many remove those covers and how many keep them on until the batteries are wheeezing their last and the keypads are so worn one can no longer see the numbers and letters on them. (I'm not _that_ bad, but there are some out there who do. Shhhhhh. See, I can hear them breathing!)
The protective cover remains on mine for as long as it will stay. Thought I was the only one!
Wow ... the video was posted 10 minutes ago and the radio is already sold out. You're a GREAT salesman!
It's a pre-order.
extreme great salesman.
@@phraktl
Yeah, but the fact remains that they have no stock left to sell. He is THAT good.
😉
I bought one ☝️ and I don’t even need it 🤪because I’m Randy’s favorite 😎
Now to find someone to talk to. I have the FM CB radio and I can't find anyone to talk to driving from Orlando to Gatlinburg
Another Great tutorial, you answered all the questions I had concerning this radio, just wish it was 4 watts on A.M with a bigger battery. Thanks Again.
You answered all my questions on the new FM version of CB. Thanks!
we had fm cb radio in the uk since mid 80s
early 80s, 27/81 was the official designation. it was my introduction to radio.
Love the comment about if the CB had as many fars as a GRMS Hand Held. 4w AM and SSB and I'd buy one. Probably a better antenna would be good also, at least as an option.
Very nice analyzer to compare AM to FM. I particularly enjoyed the comparison. Thank you for showing this radio it may be fun to get.
Ordered. Can’t wait to be the only person in my hood with fm cb, so I can listen to the blissful empty static just like on my Gmrs. 🤪
Easy, no one will be using FM CB.
Happy 4th.. Love your videos. You make me laugh in a good way.. Rubicon..🤣
Maria I agree. I subscribed to your page

Thanks for the review. Just ordered.
Loved seeing a loudness meter from Logic being used for the tests! How were you able to get your recordings from the radio into the DAW? Or were these examples you found on the internet and just brought them in?
I never saw or heard of you prior to this review….your dry humor reminds me of, me, in your descriptions of things… just subscribed to you “all”…
Being FM is pretty new I wonder if there is or there will be a designated channel for most of the FM traffic My dream is to come out with a handheld it has AM/FM and single side band that would be great
wow!
Please make more cd radio videos I know you hate them and all and think they're absolute junk but Im just now getting into cb and find them so facinating.
Well in that case.....🙄
If it was SSB, that would be a game changer.
YUP… SSB or no deal.
Europe has tons of multi modulation CB’s with adjustable
Power, you name it…! Come on Wouxun… get with the program or COBRA absolutely will beat you too it… (hint hint Hint…)
A game changer would be 10 roger beeps, and enabled for AM. They could more easily swing that, and a built in talkback. This is a good radio to get more CB Radios on channel 19, in semis, and in regular vehicles, for on-the-highway coms.
Agreed.
I highly doubt we'll see a handheld with SSB any time soon.
@@JohnnyG193 President already has. ;)
Thank you for the intro to the new FM CB. At some point I will definitely look into these. As it is I just bought the President Randy (Coincidence?) handheld CB, which is very nifty. I looked at the President Biden model, but I heard that reception was difficult to understand.
No honest signal to speak of. Get close enough to it you’d get burned.
It’s only supposed to be for cyclists lol
I love your reviews
Please note comments I made are not putting the equipment down whatsoever or the person that made the video I find it interesting and good to have the extra information thank you for exposing what is out there in the market that way consumers can make a better informed decisions thank you and all the best to your videos I've watched a few of your videos when it concerns FRS gmrs radios I've also posted it into one of the groups that I'm in therefore your information is very relevant thank you you're giving a shortcut to the average person that is trying to get into the hobby of radio radio is becoming communication is becoming an essential scenario when it concerns emergency services and so on it is important for people to become aware of radio communication as the situation is changing globally around the world environmental weather scenario and so on thank you so much for the videos it's a good shortcut to have for the average person
This is why I purchased this one, emergency prep and because it has the USB-C connector. Don't have my old CBs anymore but do have shortwave receivers.
Randy! That’s a USB-C PORT, not an Adapter. Just pointing this out to you cuz’ I’m really smart and most people aren’t as smart as me so smart people like me are here to help out! 😉
😂
Just saw you on ham radio 2.0, good to see you on there representing!!!
Love what you are doing, thank you again for the videos
Love the Mossberg mat, the radio ain't bad either
Great demo, thanks.
Woah. AM AND FM? I just had a flashback to 1970. Can I get it with an 8-track?
Thanks for the review. I still don't understand the point of the new standard, but I certainly don't blame you.
I can agree, without an increase in power as well makes it a head scratcher for sure.
I just got a pair of these. Very nice. I am new at this.I really cannot figure out how to program this. Nor can I find a manual or proper software. can you do a video on that or point me to the proper instructions
thanx.
I had a lot of questions but soon realized this is not the radio I need. When they put out a more car ready radio I am sure you will update us. Also want to know if there is any thing out there that allows us to get around putting holes in our cars or crushing the cable in a window. Enjoyed the video. Remember when I bought a Mossberg pump and when I called to get a manual, they told me to go on utube and hunt for videos. Now I feel there must be manuals out there!
I usually push my antenna wires behind the door gasket for cars that have a full window frame. Wedge it in there good and you'll forget it exists. I go along the top from the top rear corner, around to where I can stuff it under the dash and zip tie it.
It's not perfect, but no holes, no having to leave windows cracked, no wires in the way of opening / closing doors or getting in and out...
@@notsure7874 Roger that.
Good video Randy. 73
Having just this week purchased a President Randy II I am curious as to the quality and range comparison. The Randy definitely has more features and is extremely well made.
Totally agree the Randy 2 is excellent
What is the Randy 2?
Peter, what do you think of the radio after having it 8 months? About to pull the trigger on it
@artofoverland I have had the president randy ii for almost a year now. It's great. Awesome build quality, battery life, and decent range for the little rubber duck antenna. I've gotten 2.5 miles out of it from it to a mobile. Very good, would buy another.
Thanks for the honest review Randy. As always you the man!👍
It's a shame am can't receive the FM signal very well. I think that will be what makes it slow to adopt. I pretty much expected that. I didn't realize however the FM radio would receive the AM signal.
Serious question. Other than the quality of the audio, is there a performance difference between AM and FM? I do feel like my AM radio signal drops out more frequently in the city around buildings and structures. I could be totally wrong though.
Not that I noticed when testing this radio. We switched between AM and FM several times - the FM signal was always more clear, but both dropped off pretty much in the same spot.
@@TheNotaRubicon Interesting. Thanks!
@@wheel1775 Keep in mind an FM signal is line-of-sight, opposed to an AM signal which has a carrier that's omni-directional.
Informative and entertaining. Of course, we have come to expect nothing less from the Great Randini! Could you do a video on DMR ID's: what it is, why you need ( or don't need one), the good and the bad, whose idea was it to create ID's in the first place, etc.?
No.
@@TheNotaRubicon OK. Just thought I'd ask. Seems like more government/"some people" nonsense based on what I found. Thank you.
If you have two DMR radios and want to talk to each other then you should be able to put in all zeros for the DMR number in both radios (or just make up any number you want) and then set each radio to listen to any dmr number and you should be good to go. No publically registered DMR number required. When I program my DMR radio to listen to anyone its called 'promiscuous mode'..... promiscuous..... I like that.
Here is a youtube video talking about promiscuous mode ua-cam.com/video/IKf7bD1Hkq0/v-deo.html
DMR doesn't use ham callsigns because it was not originally intended for ham radio. Also, DMR isn't just a digital radio, its a digital voice network with routing capabilities so every DMR radio needs a unique ID number so your digital voice signal can be routed to the correct destination in the network. If you build your own private DMR radio network then you can issue your own DMR id numbers to each of your radios. They can be any number you want. Just make them up. But if you want to communicate with the world wide ham community using DMR then you need a publically known DMR id number.
The only reason for having a CB radio in my vehicle is for a backup form of comms. Thanks for the information, to be honest, I didnt know this radio existed.
What is a good radio to communicate with work crews where cell service is crappy?
How's about a bumper sticker for GMRS monitoring CH 20 and monitoring CB FM 19
Please let BTWR know that we want a model that does SSB, and puts out the full FCC TX power...for mucho FARS
Might have to pick one of these up to increase my lot lizard game.
Yes FM CB is a "game changer" ! and as a "CB connesiuer" I welcome you to the cb darkside! Maybe you will switch teams and join the CBers! Great video I shall join your gang,.. for now. 640 out!
They missed the boat with the 2 watts on AM. But I do like the size and the fact they offer a bnc adapter.
The price isn't to bad, i may have to think about this one a bit. I've been looking at the president randy which is a little more expensive but offers full power on both am and fm
The Randy is a far better option. I have one and use a telescopic antenna when I need to get out further.
I just checked the Randy II CB specs. They offer 4 watts on both AM and FM. I wonder why the limitation on the Wouxun?
Very funny video. I didn't know the FCC allows FM in CB now. My noise hole is going to like that a lot.
FCC authorized it in September, 2021.
What is the app you used to listen to the transmit audio?
Your hands have mastered Rhetorical Wiggling 🌟!
I know you don’t like CB, but I love my cobra. For whatever reason there’s a LOT more CB users near me. I run both in my truck but almost never hear anything in the GMRS unless I happen to be next to a business using FMS. I guess all the users here run on the offset channels.
Might look at something like this to keep in touch with the dinosaurs I meet on the trails still using CB
Would this be a decent replacement for my trucks cb?
Thank you!
I’m a member. Best thing I did to understand all this crap Im new to all of this. But had a cb radio as a kid in 1975-1978
Where is this wooksun ocean? Is the beach any good?
how far far you were, when you record that am/fm ??
Great review as always, Randy. It will be interesting to see if CB FM takes off. When SSB became permissible, that mode never really caught on. WRDN460
I'm curious as well. I've done a lot of road travel recently and had two different scanners in my vehicle. One was setup to scan only GMRS and the other CB channel 19. From Kansas City to the Outer Banks of North Carolina and back, more folks were talking on GMRS/FRS than CB and I'd usually only hear CB traffic around traffic jams and truck stops whereas GMRS/FRS had a lot of "convoy traffic" from folks traveling together in different vehicles. I think most truckers are either using IP-based cell phone apps or just not talking a lot on CB anymore what with satellite radio and podcasts to listen to now instead of just AM/FM radio. Some of them even got a ham license and use that or a DMR hotspot in their vehicle to chat with others on the road. So many different options now.
@@NonyaDamnbusiness they use Zello (phone app) often. there's even HAM radio Zello channels. LOL so you can skip the radio and hot spot. hahah
Can it be modified for 29.600 FM?
Awesome review; now all I have to do is see if they can get one to my igloo in Canada 🇨🇦😂 no NOAA channels no buying 😆
I'll give it a try. It's got CTCSS/DCS so I don't have to hear unwanted traffic. President neglected to include this. USB charging is a plus. NOAA, FM broadcast & off course SSB would have been nice. Can't have everything... maybe later. I WISH the Icom U-86 was available in the U.S. as that would have made a great & affordable GMRS/Amateur HT
Randy the Man!!!!
Thanks!
I'm waiting and hopefully for a P25 scanner
I think Tekmat owes you some chedda. You have been repping them as long as I have been watching.
I prefer SSB. Wish one of these companies made a handheld cb with SSB. I'd surely buy one then.
Check out the Albrecht AE 2990 ;)
Back in the day, when I was a young teenager, in the 70s... CBs were 23 channels. Many of the base stations used a crystal for each channel. If you wanted to add a channel you had to buy a crystal for that channel. And, had to have a license to use one. Which nobody did.
I have not had one in years. I do have a GMRS radio and license based upon your recommendations. Thinking of getting a CB radio just for the fun of it.
So what a gmrs at the same wattage have more fars than a CB? Does the CB wavelengths travel better or worse?
I started with frs, went to gmrs because I could get a 5 watt handheld, but am disappointed there is no dedicated emergency channel
If you catch skip, you could give over 100 miles, or so.
@@RKingis I’ve heard of that with radio waves, but this is more of an exception rather than a rule, right.? I need to know the rule rather than the exception.
Also, from my short research, it seems that most hand helds are basically old models, and are still using non rechargeable tech. Like you have to change batteries when they’re down.
I just bought a few gmrs radios, found only 2 people in my area to talk to thru a repeater. Nobody talking on the highways here in Ohio.
It’s unbelievable but the one guy says he has a Cb antenna 30 ft in the air by his house and he talks to people all over the country from Ohio, 4 watt, says it’s the skip, seems unreal to me. So I just purchased a radioddity cs-47 Cb mobile unit, hopefully I get to talk to more people on the highway at least.
Hi Randy
I wonder if there will be a UK or European version?
73
Ray
President Randy III is for the EU market.
Can we call them filtering tones, that seems to be what there for.
Too bad it doesn't go the whopping 4 watts on AM. Looks like a great radio... if a bit pricey. Thanks for the vid. Subbed.
I pre-ordered one when this video came out. just got it Yesterday. Nice little unit. I have not used it yet, but the out of box experience has been good.
Your videos are awesome!
I remember CB when a license was required (WRAC4629). After that they went to ZiP code as your call sign. During that time CB went from 23 channels to 40 channels. After the Zip Code as your call sign the FCC said What the hell and allowed to make up your own call sign called handle. Now each channel is both AM and FM. Even though CB is loosing ground to GMRS and HAM due to more power and less interference .
I mean most cb radios run illegal power nowadays
@@minarchisttrucker2775 Or they use modified ham HF radios.
I believe the zip code was used for temporary licenses with your initials preceding it in tge "W" series. You could also get the final license, which few people did. I ended up getting a CB license a few months before the license requirement was dropped.
I MIGHT AS WELL RUN OUT AND BUY ONE. I did that with GMRS. AND WHAT I found out was I can buy the best equipment and what I found was that west of the Rockies and north of California then Damn near no one except kids with their daddy's fmrs Wal-Mart huntin' radio!
I guess l'll leave my gmrs base on scan in the hope of hearing some other enlightened individual up here in the Eastern Oregon or Idaho area trying his newfangled GMRS.
GMRS is really for family/point-to-point/purpose-use type comms - like talking to your group while off-roading, or your friends while hiking.. It's not really made for finding strangers to talk with..
"Breaker one-nine. Bandit, you got your noise holes on?". Happy Fourth all!
10-4 Snowman, I'm east bound and down!
Can you scan all the channels you have programmed?
Yes, it does scan through whatever channels you have programmed.
The cb in my truck has fm, President Lincoln II +, 10, 11 & 12 meters
How much i distance is a far?
is there any radio that has capabilities of CB and FRS???
Now it makes since why they added fm into cb so much better
4w Fm with CTCSS on 27 mhz will surprise you, espically in wooded areas.
For some unknown reason I trust this guy
I need something to go through big, tall Doug firs to about 10 miles.
Dear Sensei, the “President Randy II” (named after your goodself?) is also CB radio with am&fm capability. Perhaps you could give - in your “spare time” - a review of this radio, as well. “Some folks” have GMRS & CB radios, and your reviews are ALWAYS helpful (and entertaining). Anyway, as always, thank you.
Just ordered mine. Great if I switch trucks and I need to order asphalt at the plant and talk with the other trucks on site. Thanks for the review.
The Wouxun KG-UV980P can be expanded into 11-meter band (CB) as well. It only does FM, which used to be no-go for CB, but now the FCC is cool with FM on 11-meter band.
I got an anytone 6666 that does AM/FM/SSB. I'ts marketed as a 10 meter, but it sucks for that because of how the channel banks are set up. It's a pretty solid 11 meter though.
As far as sounding shitty is concerned. Classic!
I love your channel.
So being on to of a hill, could you talk to your friend, Chris, if there was nothing between you? In other words, how many fars could you talk in line of sight communications on FM mode? And are there any commercial antennas one could use on the Wouxun KGS72C that would increase the number of fars it could talks? CB can talks for many fars if is powerful enough and has the proper antenna and that it's elevated enough to account for the curvature of the Earth. This last aspect does not apply to flat earthers, who will be able to talk for many more many more fars than globe-tards (as flat earthers call us).
If you key the radio without an antenna attached will it shoot steel-cutting super heated plasma stream from the connector? That would be pretty useful if true.
No, but you could burn out the radios finals in short order!
i don't see the reason to get another CB radio. I have a few, and there is literally zero CB traffic in my area. Even on rhe highway, I have seen zero traffic.
I keep the radios in good working order tho.
I just don't see the value of more CB radios.
More Ham and gmrs sure....not CB.
Maybe if there was a crisis and the grid went down, everyone will dust off their old CBs and get back on there air.
good video, and it looks like a great radio.
Both my rci 2950dx and my rci 2995dx both have fm
Wow, we are all very impressed by your fancy radios! But, are those both "CB" radios, and do they both cost under $150 ? Because that would be even more impressive.
Isn't it ironic the handheld CB by President is named...wait for it...Randy!!!
I have been trying to figure for the longest time, who President Randy was. A glance of a list of all did not reveal anything. You may just have solved the puzzle! Thanks!

so how long do you thing Baofeng? will come out with a FRS GMRS AM/FM CB (ham) radio? (with scrambler) :-D
I would say about......... NEVER. There is no profit in that.
@@nimblehealer199 from the amount of comments I see on the internet asking about it.... I'd say plenty of people would buy one.... Especially if beofeng made a reasonably cheap one.... Alot of people already buy new all band all mode ham radios and very simply unlock them.... Sometimes a button push combination sometimes just entering a code other times you just open the radio and cut a small wire or the leads to a component or destroy or disorder and removed a small component.... Alot of people do it.... There are videos of people on UA-cam showing how it's done.... So people would definitely buy them.... But hams and the FCC probably wouldn't like them being for sale.... Hams probably don't even want people to be able to know about there radios.... A Chinese company already makes a base station that's locked to receive on most frequency's.... It's more than likely unlockable.... I haven't checked....
