Well, good thing I am personally your favorite viewer, because it seems subscribing to you has paid off Randy. Or has it? You either saved me from a bad purchase, or enticed me to make a bad purchase lol. Time will tell. I just ordered this KG-Q10G. I was about to pull the trigger on a KG-UV9GX while it was on sale. Now it makes sense to me why it's on sale. :) I was taking some time to compare the UV9GX and the BTECH GMRS-PRO. While not very useful yet because I don't think I know anyone else with either of these models, the GPS is compelling (plus I can still use it to get my location). The KG-Q10G seems to be a a beefed up UV9GX which covers most of the Rx frequencies that the UV9GX covers, which I find some value in, with GPS and USB-C added. In my opinion - I'll pay an extra $25 for the USB-C alone. GPS is gravy.
Congrats on the 23 years on the UA-cams LOL. Almost got the 935G+ but wanted superheterodyne, IP67, and the USB-C port on the radio (not the battery). This might be something I can buy once, cry once and stop delaying my first purchase. Kind of wish Yaesu, ICOM, and Kenwood would get into the high end GMRS radio market, but this is the perfect price point for high quality. These Wouxuns are WAY better than Midland, Cobra, Uniden, Motorola big box store units.
Very nice, but for $200+ i stick with my pair of personally programmed BOOFwang UV-9R PRO radios that I bought for $115 including 3 different antennas for each radio, a programming cable and a microphone (1 radio). I get FM listening and think I have more flexibility for those SHTF moments. Would love to compare send and receive signal and sound of the UV-5R with this super-heterodyne radio. Maybe someday I can upgrade.
I assume the GPS functionality is similarly APRS-like to the btech gmrs pro. Exciting to see manufacturers utilize this niche the FCC added for garmin. Hope it becomes a bit more open though. I wonder if its against the rules to transmit the data via repeater.

For license free security, or other communications use inside or around structures, the retevis RT10 is a decent option. 902-928 mhz band, no license required in digital mode. For monitoring at home a scanner is the best way to go. There's not anything happening on ham or GMRS that's worth monitoring. CB isn't worth monitoring. Airband isn't worth monitoring. Those are decent hobby functions but there's nothing being said that's important to anyone who's not in the conversation. Most public safety is P25 so these radios won't pick it up anyway, and for analog stuff these radios scan like snails compared to a scanner so even an analog scanner blows them away. If you're planning on using the radio to really communicate with, and plan to get a license or use them well outside of populated areas then that's another story, but as it is they're basically as useful as an FRS walkie talkie if you don't get licensed because you can't use repeaters without someone policing you about it and ratting you out.

Gonna wait for CHIRP compatibility, CHIRP has previously been able to “unlock” some of my GMRS-only radios to be able to transmit on *all* memory channels, regardless of band, and I like a multi-functional radio for “emergency purposes.” Manufacturer software almost always keeps the “rules” baked in, limiting my options when the government and society as a whole inevitably collapses.
Great review again, Randy - I am a bit disappointed that the charging port isn’t on the battery itself, though. Oh well, if they made it perfect, what would they do for an encore?
Two hundred and WHAT!! Way too expensive! How much is it _without_ the belt clip?? Okay, how many blondes does it take to turn on a Wouxun? A hundred, one to hold onto the switch and 99 to turn the house counter-clockwise! Oh, and a couple of blondes were looking at Wouxun radio. “Is there a problem?” the salesman asked. “Yes,” said one blonde, “how high is this antenna?” The salesman laid the radio on the counter, pulled out a tape measure and said, “Six inches.” After he leaves, one of the blondes says to the other, “I don't want to buy from this place! We asked for its height and he gave us its length!”
Hi Randy, thanks for another great review. This seems like a fantastic radio. Here's my question. If I unlock this radio, will it have the ability to receive P25 public safety radio?
Love these radios... but hate the character limitation on the display. I'd love to be able to name a memory as something like "AcmeLink WXYZ123 675 Mt. WIlson" instead of having to be creative and call it "XYZ123 675 MWS", then have a spreadsheet on my phone with more info. The example is hypothetical, obviously, but demonstrates what I'm talking about. Also, and this may be a thing now... I'd love to see channel "zones" instead of different scan lists. I love how zones can be arranged on my DMR radio. It would be cool to have that on a GMRS HT, as well. Much easier way to switch between groups of channel memories.

You know, like George Costanza?
So... It's a POLICE SCANNER in the 800 range?
most entertaining man on youtube.
Another great radio...thanks Randy.
Nice steak knife application.
Looking for SHTF comms and man even though I used to repair two way radios, I still can't make up my mind. 😅
can you mars mod this thing to transmit in all those mygigglehurtz ranges it receives? and is it easy to do?
MARS mods are for ham radios.😊
I am pretty sure that most normal, non-pedantic people understand exactly what he is asking.
The answer is: So far, NO .
